Being a UCLA fan is a torturous existence.  We should be so much better than we are.  I hate being a fan of this team.

So exactly "how" good do you think UCLA should be?  At what level of winning would you be happy.

My buddy Larry (UCLA '87) is a season ticket holder.  I asked him the same question.  He said win 1 of 3 against USC, and go to a Holiday Bowl level bowl every year, and he's good with it.

That seems about right for them. And maybe catch lightning in a bottle once a decade and compete for a conference title.

We should make the playoff once every 10 years and win the conference twice a decade at a minimum.  We are the preeminent public university in the country (fuck Berkeley).  We are in the hotbed of recruiting.  No reason we shouldn’t be much better.

Well, OK, but you've been a great university in a great area for your entire existence, and you've never really been a power.  Donahue had a good bowl run, and you had a Heisman winner when I was shitting my pants the first time around (I'm proud to say I had a 5-decade run of no pants-shitting, but that's over now).

So, you want to be something that you've never been.   No doubt it's got something to do with living in the shadow of a blue blood.
