Good lord. Remember when Nebraska was getting odds for the CFP after Frost's arrival? Like, seriously, they were being picked everywhere as a semi-dark horse to win the national title or at least play for it. I remember being in Vegas that August and looking at stuff at the sportsbook and just thinking "wtf am I missing here?" Now that fucking guy will be on the hot seat with another losing record, which I expect.

They playing 18 games this year?

Just read that they have not had a 1st round offensive draft pick since Lawrence Phillips in 1996

Even if he was a raging asshole with severe anger issues, they fired the guy that consistently got NU 8-9 wins.

Did the same thing to Solich

Can I out my life's savings on the under?  They'll lose in a loud and pornographic fashion to Oklahoma and Ohio State so to get to at least 8 wins, they'd need to go 8-2 against everyone else.  Also, three of their first four games are on the road.  Only home game is against Buffalo.  They should hang whoever made that schedule.

Vegas has them at 7.5. It does seem lofty.

By the way, why was it okay for everybody to walk away from Rice and SMU and go to greener pastures but wasn't  okay for Nebraska, Colorado, Missouri, and Texas A&M to leave?

Nothing intrinsically wrong with Nebraska leaving the Big 12.  Just don't make up excuses after the fact and pretend that it was anything other than Nebraska getting its shit pushed in on a regular basis that caused it to flee.

I’ve said repeatedly that watching Husker fans lose their dignity over the years has been terrible to watch. They went from saluting our team (Ricky in particular) with clapping to saluting us with one finger.

This past fall, I did actually appreciate being in the Omaha area as our season started and Huskers at least began to fight back against their conference’s idiocy.  Husker fans who cared about sellouts every fall Saturday were a thing to behold.

It may be a terrible thing to you, but I’ve loved it. From the heights of piety as they won 3 titles with thugs down to the burning rubble of their current situation, Nebraska fans have proven themselves to be as base and remedial as the rest of us once their run of zero or one loss seasons faded in the rear view mirror. It’s been glorious watching that program tumble into the doom loop of being a Big 10 also-ran that no one gives a fuck about or views as a rival any more.

Yeah, I should have been more clear.

I was very neutral at the genesis of the Big 12. They were big and mighty Nebraska with all the mystique at that time. It was easy for them to be nice.  By the matchup in every sport, they became more and more petty and obsessed with us.

I ended up marrying into an Iowa family that had one huge Husker bandwagoner in it by the time Nebraska ran away. It gave me a good seat to watch their utter degradation and laugh. People in far western Iowa are mostly Iowa or Nebraska fans because Iowa State has been so traditionally awful. Those Husker robots talked shit because they had always just won.  But Texas took that from them.

I took some Longhorn friends to our final game in Lincoln. The younger Husker fans were hilariously terrible that day. They talked so much shit and we knew we sucked, yet Texas took it from them again.  The :01 shirts. People wanted to fight us after the game.  And our fans dropped a few “Big 10s” on theirs as they left the stadium early.

Nebraska fans were really never any different. They just told us they were.

My thoughts exactly.   I see 8-9 losses on next year's schedule and only two definite wins, which is an increase due to Leipold heading to Kansas.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, but Iowa Huskers are the absolute fucking worst.  The worst.

There is no other neighboring state's school that native Iowans cheer for.  There are no Gopher fans in northern Iowa (unless they're Minnesota natives), no Tiger fans in southern Iowa (again, native caveat applies), or Illini and Badger fans in eastern Iowa.

It only happens in the western part of the state and it's pure, unadulterated front running at it's worst.

Disagree.  Not being able to watch us mudhole them mercilessly in the Campbell era has been a major disappointment.

I also wish the Big 8 was still intact, or at least all at the same party.

Agreed. We have Iowa and Iowa State grads in the family, Minnesota, Mizzou and some other smaller schools. The only Husker fans didn’t go there (in fairness, they did live in Nebraska for some years). But it’s a weird phenomenon. I have much more respect for the ISU grads in the family who have always represented.

We traditionally have few non-alum fans. Why would you sign up for this (historically)if you didn’t have to?

That is changing considerably these days.

For sure. And fun to watch for y’all. I also have some who just love to troll everyone else and don’t actually care. After we beat Nebraska in 2010, 5 guys in showed up at the local diner in longhorn hats to torment the owner, a Husker fan.

Don't worry Pete, I would have fingered you then, and I'd finger you now.

I’ve known a few husker fans back in the day, but only one who actually attended classes in Lincoln.   He moved here with his mullet firmly intact, lost his drivers license after his 4th DWI and was relegated to riding a bicycle to work.  Mullet locks flowing and the smell of goldschlager on his breath while pedaling down Lamar, he is what I think of every time I think of “husker fan.”

that and his stories about basements and rolling giant joints out of Omaha ditch hemp only to get a massive migraine, because they were too far from Mexico and it looked like it would get you high.  Not sure what their license plates look like but I imagine they say something like “Nebraska, too stupid to move”

Fanbase definition checks out.

"Nebraska fans are awesome and classy" belongs on the same pile of bullshit as "Kyle Field is an intimidating and tough place to play". It automatically disqualifies the person saying it as an uninformed chump.

Rice and SMU didn't bring anything to the table.
Rice, in their entire history, has never made a serious commitment to football. SMU was still in their wandering in the wilderness phase.
When the Southwest Conference was formed, television wasn't an issue. For the most part, travel distance between the schools was the biggest deal. Rice and SMU were inside an easy travel path for just about everyone.
The Big 12 was about television footprint. Texas and aggy delivered Houston. Rice brought nothing to the table. The metroplex TV interests were Texas, aggy and Oklahoma.  SMU and TCU brought essentially zero to metroplex ratings.

ahem Jess Neely puts the lie to your first assertion, whippersnapper.

a little off topic, but what ever happened with the proposal in Iowa to allocate state university funding based more on enrollment that was going to mean a lot more money for ISU and less for Iowa?
