Was just going to ask if you were going to fix that irritating repetition Yarn has built into their software.

Thank you.

@immamac

Dragging this up from the dead.  Who can and can't see this?  What browser are you using?  What are the last nine digits of your SSN.

I searched for this .gif in the onboard .gif search and it did not come up.  But a cat with a party had did.  Onboard gif search is, how do I say, not the best.

I can see this .gif on my end in Chrome and Mozilla.  I also can see some of the .gifs posted above (the more recent ones).

How widespread is this issue for users on this board?  Do we know why it works for some and not others?  I figured it had been resolved until I was scolded.  So now I'm curious.

It's all cloudflare gating. If cloudlfare doesn't like you you can't see it. But you can click it and "prove you are human" and then see it. It's just stupid and annoying.

I don't know what that is or why it likes me and not the person who knows way more about this stuff, but oh well.  I assume it's the fault of the justice system somehow.

TBH it's probably because I'm blocking a bunch of trackers and fingerprinting at a network level in my home network, so since cloud flare can't affirm that I'm a person and not a bot they deny the image load and save a billionth of a cent on data transfer

Yarn images don’t load for me either using an iPad or iPhone. If I click through and verify I’m human then they’ll load but only if I click on them first, and that usually only lasts for that day.

one of the guys who runs yarn posted about the problem they're having from chatgpt bots crawling their site and the countermeasures they're using. which affect comcast and at&t users the most.  getyarn.io is broken for me, but yarn.co works. yarn.co doesn't embed, though.

TLDR:
Try https://www.yarn.co - it seems to work better for normal end users of late.

Hi folks, apologies for the lack of response. There are two of us and it's a challenge keeping up with the nonsense happening lately with bots. We do this on the side just because we love the site ourselves.

https://www.404media.co/the-backlash-against-ai-scraping-is-real-and-measurable/

Getyarn and yarnco have been getting massive amounts of bots and AI crawlers hitting the site growing daily since the launch of ChatGPT. In the last few weeks, it's just gone through the roof. The site is probably averaging about 5 DDoS attacks a day now, when it used to be an attack "once-in-a-while" - maybe 3-5x per year?

As a result of the bots, a bunch of our automated protections kick in, and are seemingly ensnaring users in the same IP ranges as the bots. In the US, Comcast and AT&T seem to be the ones with the highest volume of bots hammering the site. Both Comcast and AT&T provide services to tons of normal users.

Two URLs serve the same content - getyarn and yarnco. The automated protections vary on them because they get hit differently by the bots. And those protections come-and-go because they are automatic, AI-based, and have a ton of complexity that is not trivial to describe. Btw, I'm not sure on the intent of the bots, other than to scrape the very rich data, images, and videos for their own AI purposes - I guess. Lately it feels like the sole purpose is to pound on us to hurt Yarn users somehow. Why? Who knows? Maybe they just want Yarn to disappear, so they can replace it.

There are a ton more details, but the bottom line is that we want REAL PEOPLE to continue to have it available. It's been 9+ years of doing it on the side, keeping our costs matching our ad revenue (annoying ads, we know it) just to break even and keep the fun around.

To all you big companies, VCs, malign foreign entities - just cut it out. You folks are going to destroy the organic internet - there is a lot of human-created beauty out there getting trampled. We are not the only site that is dealing with this nonsense. Soon you'll be autogenerating everything and making the net into a giant pile of gray goo. You folks need REAL content to provide all the cash to your search engines, telcos, and however the heck else you drain money from us. Act in a symbiotic way.

We are nimble and have tricks up our sleeve, so we'll keep fighting back best we can.

And to anyone who has been impacted - we are sorry. Thank you for posting here on Reddit and raising awareness. We're not perfect, but we try and we do care about you all.
