There was someone on InsideTexas claiming that Major Burns tried to commit to LSU, but they told him no. Don't know the veracity of that, but putting it out there.

See the post from Voltiger, who's supposed to be an LSU insider

From Tarp's write-up on day 1 they had a walk-on starting at one LB spot, Roney Elam 1st team Nickel, Oliver and Renfro 1st CB's, Tank Jenkins 1st team OG, and McCollum at Center.

Also, of note ::

Bobby Brown practiced but was not with either the 1s or 2s.

No Grayson Reed??

Non-contact jerseys for Myles Jones, Ikenna Okeke, Anthony Hines, Caleb Chapman.

2nd team LB duo :: Aaron Hansford and someone named Keeath Magee ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tarp's other notes ::

Cordarrian Richardson is very solidly built with no bad weight. There’s no question as of right now that he’s the second best looking running back in the group and he moves around well.

Baylor Cupp caught everything thrown his way no matter how hard it was to get it. He’s got great change of direction and can frame the ball with his hands like a wideout. He alsp adapted to coaching very quickly, coming out of a block with good burst and getting to the sidelines on an out route. He also ran the prescribed routes the way he was supposed to. In contrast, Glenn Beal tended to struggle not just in terms of getting upfield but also in terms where he was supposed to go (running out of the quarterback’s line of vision as opposed to into it).

Kellen Mond is getting his footwork down as he looks crisper coming out from center which allowed him to set up more quickly and get the ball out faster on some routes. Connor Blumrick still has a longer delivery but on out routes the ball gets there fast. James Foster was a work in progress in terms of his feet and didn’t have the drive off of his back foot to his front foot. Zach Calzada had better weight transfer and the ball continues to come out fast for him.

Hybrid Tyree Wilson is is listed at 260 pounds and has really filled out.

It's baaaaaccccckkkkk! Football here here, ladies and gentlemen, and it's glorious...

Okay, maybe I'm "Gabeing it" as Liucci would say. We are in fact still five months and 10 days - check that ... five months and eight days - away from the next game. But spring ball is upon us and practice number one is going on right now, as I type out a few snippets from our 15-20 minutes of observation from day one. Here are a few brief notes...

Big guests in attendance:
* RC Slocum made an appearance on day one. I noticed him spending several minutes laughing and talking ball with A&M DC Mike Elko. I'd love to sit down and have a beer and just listen to those great defensive minds talking football and sharing war stories.

* 2021 Katy QB Bronson McClelland was at practice, per our Ryan Brauninger.

Offense:
* Here's what the first team looked like on O...

  • QB: Mond
  • RB: Corbin
  • FB: Miles
  • WR: Ausbon, Rogers, Davis (slot)
  • TE: Beal
  • OL (L-to-R): Moore, Hocker, McCollum, Jenkins, Green

* Here's what we could gather for the second team...

  • QB: Blumrick
  • RB: Even rotation of Jackson, Richardson, Kibodi, Prince
  • WR: Jones, Buckley, Paul (slot)
  • TE: Cupp
  • OL (L-to-R): Diesch, Matthews, Prater, Clement, Blanton

* Interesting developments were Connor Blumrick working as the second-team quarterback throughout the media-attended portion of practice, Tank Jenkins working with the first team at right guard, Ryan McCollum getting the first crack at the open center competition and Luke Matthews moving from right tackle last year to left guard for the start of spring ball.

* Here's a quick first look at new OL coach Josh Henson working with his tackles and guard on combo blocking drills...

* WR Caleb Chapman, coming off in-season ACL surgery, is in a yellow jersey but was running really well while wearing his knee brace. He didn't appear all that limited and was moving quickly and attacking each drill with great effort. Excellent sign.

* UCF transfer running back Cordarrian Richardson got some action with the first team during handoff and gap run drills. He spent a little time with each of the first four teams and Corbin spend most of the time as the first team RB, but Richardson did get a look. It'll be interesting to follow his progress and see if he progresses up the depth chart as the spring rolls along. It appeared that Vernon Jackson was the most prominent second team back behind Corbin during our time on the field.

Defense:
* Here's what we logged for the first team when they lined up to open practice...

  • DE: Clemons, T. Johnson
  • DT: Madubuike, Peevy
  • LB: B. Johnson, B. White
  • CB: Renfro, Oliver
  • S: O'Neal, Tucker
  • N: Elam

* Bobby Brown was working drills but didn't line up in this particular 11-on-11 drill.

* The second team defense looked like this...

  • DE: Martin, Wright
  • DT: Diallo, Rogers
  • LB: Hansford, Magee
  • CB: Chattman, Howard
  • S: Carper, Pryor
  • N: Morris

* I always like to go take a peek at the defensive tackles on the first day of spring ball or fall camp because those jumbo athletes never disappoint with their size, presence and athleticism. Here's a quick video of DTs coach Elijah Robinson working with his unit...

* Recovering LBs Anthony Hines and Ikenna Okeke are in yellow jerseys, but like Chapman with the WRs, they're both still going through drills in helmets and getting reps. They seemed to be moving well from my view and weren't taking many plays off during their time working with Coach Peveto.

* Speaking of good o' Bradley Dale ... Peveto is in mid-season form already. The linebackers coach was all over his group about doing every drill perfectly every damn time. Let me just say ... it was awesome to watch. We're taking 10 minutes into practice number one and you would have thought it was mid-October out there on the practice field.

* True freshman R.J. Orebo and and redshirt freshman Tyree Wilson have really filled out. Both were very underweight as signees but both are carrying plenty of weight now and are still really young players. Orebo is listed as a linebacker - still - at 6-7, 248 pounds. Wilson is now listed at 6-6, 260. Both look like they still have a lot of room to grow and develop their frame, physically. The good news is that they have a long time to do it. A couple of good developmental names to follow.

* Day one all-airport team: Madubuike, Brown, Peevy, Chapman, Hunter, Clemons, Martin, Corbin, Ausbon, Moore, Green.

That'll just about do it from a brief day one on the field. Practice #2 is tomorrow but the media are not allowed to attend that one. Our next media session will be Day #3 on Saturday early afternoon.

Who is this Magoo character playing second team LB?

Was gonna post a Magoo gif or something but decided to look him up and the 12th man summary is far more interesting than any of the jokes I could come up with.

HIGH SCHOOL: Coached by Matt Meekins at Westfield High School in Houston, Texas … also attended North Crowley High School (2012), Mansfield Legacy High School (2013), Beaumont Ozen High School (2013) and Petal High School (2015) … 2015 Area Champs (12-2) ... first Team Academic All-State ... Houston Touchdown Club Scholar Athlete ... Lombardi Award Watchlist ... Nike Opening Regional LB MVP

Earned the team’s Top Academic Award last spring.

First Team Academic All-State despite 5 high schools? Which state?(assuming Petal is MS) I'd love to know the story on this one, because changing schools sucks but clearly Keeath overcame. Props to the kid.

This is from the TexAgs write up. So Orebo has added nearly 40 pounds? Luckily Aggy247 has pics of Orebo ::  LeBron James is what 6'8" 250 pounds, right? Looks about the same to me

Kinda sounds like the recent fake profiles some kids generated?

Also, the aggy cognitive dissonance/flat out lies re: our rushing game are breathtaking.  And the cash comment is straight up projection.

our running game was shit last year.  georgia was great but I think we finished in the bottom half of the conference in rushing.

Yeah we were not good on the ground last year. But it was still really easy to see progress so it shouldn't be hard for that aggy to understand the pitch. And it should be good next year with three all-conference OL returning.

I thought the same thing. Trying to put some pressure on them to let him commit. I don't think it accomplishes much when he's already committed to another school.

i think he actually has a committable lsu offer now. his film is fun as hell, hope we keep him.

Watson had 786, Ingram 708, Sam 482.  That's a far cry from "no rushing attack".

No Grayson Reed??

So there have been at least 5-6 Ags asking about Reed and his whereabouts on the 247 site, including an 8 hour old thread that is simply "Tarp where was Grayson Reed Yesterday?" and not a word. No reply to any one of the questions about him on various threads. Maybe @Lobwedgephil will be able to chase down anything TA has to offer on Reed.

Yeah. We were definitely committed to the run, and you could see our OL was well coached. It's a joke to think our run game won't continue to improve as our OL improves and if you plug in a back of Evans' caliber, however, he does have a bit of a point in that we ran it a lot but we weren't great at running the ball. We only averaged a measly 3.8 yds per rush, 3.7 against P5 teams.

aggy on the other hand was actually really good running and averaged 5.3 ypc, granted that number drops to 4.7 ypc when you only look at P5 teams.

Regardless, it's dumb to look at this year's rushing numbers when talking about Evan's decision. Almost no starting OL from either team will overlap with Evans, and neither HC recruited the OL he used this year, except for Cosmi and I guess Anderson if you want to throw him in there.

Texas A&M hosting some big names the next few days

With Spring Break over and practice for spring ball having officially begun, Texas A&M will be hosting a number of top prospects over the new few days.

On Thursday, Little Elm four-star cornerback Ryan Watts made his way to town for the first time since being offered at the Super Bowl party early last month. The 6-foot-2.5, 187-pound defender is planning to spend the entire day in Aggieland.

On Friday, Texas A&M is set to host its highest-rated target in the class of 2020.

North Shore five-star running back Zachary Evans, ranked as the No. 2 overall prospect in the country, plans to make his way to Aggieland on Friday and then spend the night, staying around to attend practice on Saturday.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound junior has been set to be in town before recently but did not end up making the trip for the Super Bowl party. If he arrives, it will be a big chance for Jimbo Fisher and Co. to make up ground with him.

The Aggies will also have a big out-of-state visitor arriving Friday as well

Orem, Utah, four-star athlete Noah Sewell, who most are recruiting as a linebacker, will make his way into town on Friday and stay the night, leaving on Saturday. The 6-foot-2, 266-pound junior is ranked as the No. 78 overall prospect in the country. This will be his first-ever trip to the Lone Star State. At the moment, all seven Crystal Ball predictions are for Oregon.

On Saturday, the Aggies will see a pair of national top-100 sophomore offensive linemen in town.

Katy Taylor guard Bryce Foster, who recently listed A&M among his top four schools, is making the short drive with his parents to take in practice and to meet new offensive line coach Josh Henson. The 6-foot-4.5, 318-pound class of 2021 standout is coming off a very good performance at the Houston Opening regional camp.

The Offensive Line MVP of that Houston Opening camp, though, was Houston Episcopal class of 2021 tackle Donovan Jackson. The first player in the class to be offered by the Aggies, the 6-foot-4, 308-pound sophomore has long been high on the Maroon and White5COMMENTS

Aggie four-star offensive line commit Smart Chibuzoof Fort Bend Hightower is headed to see Auburn and Alabama with his Fast7v7 teammates this weekend but plans to make his way to College Station as well. He will be in town on Friday morning. With a new position coach, he is looking at all his options. However, several sources have mentioned how much he and his family like Aggieland.

Next weekend, A&M will likely host several more big names. One of those already confirmed is Foster's teammate at Katy Taylor, four-star sophomore offensive tackle Hayden Conner. He also has visits to Stanford and Texas coming up in the next month as well
