Jimbo 2020: Strangers with Candi

and needed a last minute drive to beat that team, as Auburn punched is soft ass team in the mouth.

The interesting part of that game was that Jimbo never changed the team's signals from the prior year when Dameyuene Craig was on staff. Craig left FSU to join Auburn prior to that season.

Well Craig was stealing all the signals during the game until Kelvin Benjamin came to the sidelines and told the staff that Craig knew every play they were running. If anyone recalls, this is why FSU put up towels around the signal caller during the 2nd half and the game changed from there.

Unless by “it” he means coach at aggy, then he is just way off.

Woodward isn't good with money? What sort of extremely public financial decisions could ever lead one to that conclusion?

I mean it must be all Woodward. It’s not like aggy as an institution, has a history of reckless and foolish spending in an effort to overcome their unjettisonable inferiority complex.

I can see Sharp and Jimbo having issues. If Sharp is truly a control freak like they all say, he'll have an issue with Jimbo helping pick the next AD.

The issues are that Sharp is aggie to the bone and he tells everyone that he is responsible for any/all good in BCS. He's not lying either, without him aggie would not be able to afford the mortgage. Johny's best attribute is cooking the books. That along with the blank check we handed him for Harvey relief has created the cash flow for their outrageous spending and 12th man contributions. Without Sharp that balance sheet would cause a lot of problems for those inbreds.

He wants to be bff's with Jimbo. Jimbo is a wv hillbilly who just wants to coach fb, never be told no and get paid. Now one of his best friends is gone.

James Sylvester visited Aggy today - via Hamm Lite ::

It's been a while since James Sylvester made it to town. A&M is after some other pass rushers but is still in communication and he visited today. His 2020 RB teammate Valdarion Fowler was in town Tuesday.

Sylvester recently made his first trip to TCU and the Frogs feel good about their momentum with him. I changed my CB pick a couple weeks ago.

Dumbo recruiting plan

1. Step One recruit like hell this year any way you can getting the best of the best.

2. Step Two leave for Baton Rouge.

3. Have said players in step one enter transfer portal cause coach left them high and dry.

4. Find fake job for mee maw and get burner phones

5. win natty and tell gomers "see told ya  we could win one"

6. Have gomers put it on their wall so they can gloat.

The hilarious part is how Woodard bolted on their ass for a "lateral" move not only in conference, but in division. The nerve of anyone who has ever spent time in that shit hole to not be fully indoctrinated. That will get their latent little brother complex all hot and bothered for a good while until they can justify it away with "the new guy is better" or "Woodard was never that great to begin with."

Granted, this was the most predictable thing ever, but it really didn't take long:

Season predictions! "I think A&M goes 10-2 after watching the spring game"

You know these 10 win predictions are coming because Herman won 10 his 2nd year so no doubt the great Dumbo can.

So they are all of the sudden going to sweep the Miss. schools and Auburn?  Doubt it.

They have a fluke win against LSU and now it's an automatic win?

I know they're rubes and all but its just mind bottling how they can be so confused about a school who ain't won dogshit in 80 years somehow being superior to LSU or worthy of attracting Dabo or Urban.
It's all about the Jimbo myth. They still have not realized how fucked he was at fsu due to his own roster mismanagement.

He would have fled that situation for half of what aggy offered just to maintain his reputation, but they handed him a 10 year golden parachute.

Because they haven't figured this out, they think it would work a second time on a coach like dabo who actually is who they think Jimbo is.

In Lucci's defense, it's hard to tell you're in a clown show when you can't get out of the clown car.

Also, "Aggy Lucky Sperm Club"  (upthread) is going to be the name of my new punk rock band.

To be fair, a lot of Texas fans were expecting Strong's 2nd year to be better than his first, even though he lost pretty much every decent player he had on the defensive side of the ball. And retained Shawn Watson.

Still, aggy is always gonna aggy.

I have no idea whether aggy has ever had a coach who didn't flagrantly cheat in recruiting. It's just that most of them were really, really bad at it. Sherrill and Slocum were the two exceptions.

Their insistence on recruiting short, squatty DL, slow LBers and Safeties at CB is hilarious. Almost everyone in CFB is moving away from the type of players they take on D, yet it will keep working to an extent as long as the SEC stays stuck in Stone Age offenses, but teams are learning they can now negative recruit SEC-style football because even the NFL is quicker to get with the times than they are.

Probelm for them is it takes one offseason to change up your offensive scheme. It takes a hell of a lot longer to recruit entirely different styles of athletes across the board on D.

The light is coming down the tunnel for the aggy D and Hellen Keller has a better chance of sensing the train than aggy does.

How's it impact Jimbo?

I believe that will be perfectly fine so long as the powers that be actually let the head man have a LOT of input into the hiring process. That's just the way it HAS to be. He came here in large part because of his relationship with the AD so having a similar connection and working relationship sure feels like a must to me. I'm not worried about it because I'm convinced that's exactly what will happen.

I don't believe there is a buyout. The buyout would be him enjoying wild success at a place that is giving him everything he needs to win a title, $7.5 million and eventually more (watch coaching salaries folks...it won't stop going up for all of the premier guys in the profession) and an AD he loves working with.

This is my question as well. How do we drop the ball so bad with Woodward yet you are convinced we will do the right thing with the next hire and involving Jimbo?

Because there is a TON of egg on the face of some of the decision-makers who let SW walk and they are no doubt feeling the pressure from the inside. I've talked to enough people today to know that this has upset a lot of very influential Aggies and I'm confident that they are perfectly aware that the procedure and process need to change. Not to mention the fact that they understand how important the new AD hire is.

And just to clarify, I DO want folks to understand that the 12th Man Foundation is NOT the place to direct your angst. To be perfectly candid, I think if you asked anyone involved at the higher levels (and a couple of them may be reading this thread just like you guys are) they'd tell you that the relationship between the 12MF and the Athletic Department has never been stronger. They played an absolutely vital role in allowing Scott the runway (and money) needed to make the Buzz Williams hire happen as recently as two weeks ago.

Good question and I sensed some real frustration on Scott's part down the stretch but I really think the last thing he wanted to do was whine about or make it seem like he was a malcontent looking for a pay bump or something like that. I think his personality combined with the situation led to this happening VERY quickly. Everyone I've talked to today was caught completely off-guard.

I do think this is ALSO a very fair question to ask. Most will lean towards saying A&M could have kept him (myself included because I know how much he loved this place and the situation the department was in) but I've also done this long enough to know that the draw of going home is typically very strong and that nothing about what Scott has done in terms of his moves have been knee-jerk or without careful thought and planning.

In summary:

Tough loss that, IMO, did not have to happen but I have confidence that the search and ultimate replacement will be handled the right way and will produce a high-end AD.

As for the question everyone keeps asking: No, I do not think Jimbo is in jeopardy - now or a year or two from now - of going to LSU. I think he'll have a proven AD who understands how important winning a football championship is to Texas A&M and who will do everything he can to ensure that happens.

Why aren't people putting some blame on Woodward as well? He was obviously talking behind the scenes well before today's announcement and gave A&M no chance to counter or negotiate. I realize that it's a smart move on his part if he wants out, but he screwed us over in the process.

We were foolish not to pay him more, but he left us at the altar today.

Do ADs at this level use agents?

Yes.

I think Michael Young is getting a pass. He was Woodward's boss and the most obvious one to not support him. He is also an academic and so his commitment towards athletics may or may not be so high (I don't know). Everybody's focus is on Sharp and he may very well be the problem, but in a situation with a frustrated employee, I always look at his immediate supervisor first.

Looch? Any insight you can provide on Young's role in all of this?

I think the fact that the rumors are that Young's contract was not extended or renewed was actually a bigger factor than anything to do with any issues between the president and AD (of which I'm not sure there were any).

Do you think that Scott Woodward was involved enough in recruiting to hurt our short or long term efforts from Baton Rouge?

No. He loved it and was very helpful when asked (an asset to be sure) but Jimbo Fisher and his staff are why the Aggies are recruiting at this level. Scott would be the first to tell you that.

Do we have the money to make a splash hire? I've heard maybe we don't.

We're fine in that regard. 100%.

Hey Billy, I know this is highly speculative, but what would you say are the chances that SW would eventually come calling Jimbo at a later time? I've heard they're great friends.....

While I wouldn't say he'd never come calling, I think it's further-fetched than most are assuming and pulling off the actual hire is going to be astronomically difficult...and borderline impossible if you get the right AD in here to fill SW's large shoes.

I seem to remember both Daylon Mack and Tyler Davis releasing statements/videos recently discussing their mental health and how they had battled depression during their time at A&M. Do you see our athletic department taking a more concentrated approach to mental health of our student athletes moving forward? As a recent graduate I feel like the students and student organizations have taken a stronger stance in regards to mental health, but I'll admit I felt like the university itself was lacking in some sorts. Thanks for all you do Looch, I know today was rough!

Amazing question and, yes, I have seen a stronger push towards recognizing and treating such issues among A&M athletes. They're ahead of the game in this area.

WHEN did it happen? Was it at the LSU game as was rumored?

Not at all. False rumor.

Sorry for not being able to keep up enough guys but that was a LOT. I may try to jump back on a little later.

I'm just not sure what you guys want me to say. No one has been fired. The ball was dropped in my opinion and folks are fully aware of that fact. It has to be fixed. Tough questions will be asked internally and any potential hire will have those same questions.

Sometimes I feel like it's just a no win situation to do these things because no amount of information or explanation is enough and it never stops.

adamhdonnell said:

You're absolutely right on it being a no-win situation. Some on this board will react in a manner that makes it feel as though they're blaming the guy answering the questions.

I believe this is another reason the prediction function doesn't really get used. People think they're owed answers when predictions don't pan out.

I appreciate the dialogue.

Thanks Adam. It's definitely getting tougher and tougher to do this type of thing but I won't let a few buffoons get in the way of providing the rest of you with information. I won't back down to that type of behavior ever.

I think they've spent a hell of a lot of money but not too much to where it impacts future moves. Just need to be a little more fiscally responsible moving forward and really until the new CBS deal comes around. That will be the mother of all game-changers for everyone in the SEC.

I've heard that more money has been burned through than we expected (aside from the big dollar hires) and some of the smaller sports are feeling that pain. I wonder if that played a part in the BOR's balk...

Agree with the first part but not the second.

Mod: Now again, I'm not saying, I don't want you to give anything away and anything that you know. When I start to look at this and the next AD hire. I'm starting going, What athletic departments around the country do you respect the way they do things? And..

Looch: There's about 10 of them

Mod: yeah...and that's all I'm looking at and what are those guys and those situations? The decision makers at A&M. That's the issue I think the fanbase doesn't trust. It's like those decision makers just let Scott Woodward walk away. Why should we trust them to go make the right hire here?

Looch: I tried to do a chat last night and there was actually for lack of a better word, were a complete anonymous jackass or two. And they were complaining about that, and you know complaining they weren't getting enough info. And they are no longer a part of the site. Because I'm not putting up with jack you-know-what anymore. And if you're listening and you've been banned. You ain't coming back. cause I'm not putting up with crap on that board. That is going to be a fun place to go, it's going to be, where people can talk Aggy football without being shouted down.  And if you're going to come in there and complain and bitch, about things, your butt is out.

Mod: He was not happy last night. He was fired up.

Looch: My days with putting up with that crap are over. So if you're listening and your on Texags, and you get annoyed by those people with that attitude, the people with the 1% that come on and make it unbearable for the other 99% of you guys. Let me let you know that I am purging that crap.  And I will make it my mission to purge those people.

Mod: And here's the deal. He's gonna do it. Like, He's going to do it. He will go through spells where he forgets about it. The people that has pissed him off. . He will do it too. And everyone who has pissed him off in that spell and that little span will be gone.

Looch: And it makes the site better. And like I said. It's not about disagreeing. It's not about complaining. It's not about asking for more or critiquing, or you know being quote on quote negative. God only knows, the funniest thing I get is that you can't be negative on Texags.  Are you bleepitty bleeping kidding me? You can't be negative on Texags? You can't say a negative thing about a coach, an AD, a recruit, a player? Are you freaking kidding me? It's not that. Don't be an ass. That's my motto. Don't be an ass to your friends. Don't be an ass on Texags. Don't be an ass at a restaurant to a server. Don't be an ass at a drive through. Don't...It's simple. Family. Friends. Don't do that on Texags, and you can post as much as you want, as long as you want. You can be as negative as you want. You can be cluelessly positive if you want. You can put your maroon colored glassed on.  drink your maroon koolaid. whatever you want. Don't act like a couple of people last night. Now, with that said.

Mod: are you confident in the decision makers?

Looch: Yes, and here's why. There's a lot of egg on the face right now and there's a lot of people watching, and that's a great motivator to do the right thing, when you've kind of, when the whole world knows that something got screwed up. And everyone's looking, like...okay decision makers, how did this happen. And here's the other thing, those people still whether you believe it or not, they do, you can screw up and still have A&M's best interest at heart. You might have been wrong, you might have done something wrong and handled it wrong, but like, people on the board are sitting there, they don't want...they want to get another great AD in here. Whether or not, you know the fact that Scott Woodward shouldn't of left is a side deal. You're talking about a hire. Let's talk about hires. It doesn't have to do with Scott going home to LSU. Let's look at the last hires that A&M has you know. Scott Woodward. Jimbo Fisher, Buzz Williams. Scott hired them. Michael Young.  I think Texas A&M in general as a whole has been making, whether it was Woodward doing it in Athletics, or vice versa, they have been making good strong hires. I'm a million percent convinced that will continue especially... this is a damn attractive job. Now, the new guy's gonna have some tough questions and they need to, and he's going to need to get answers to that, and most notably who is going to be the president. That's going to be a big part of it. But yeah, I think without question, this a job that most people would crawl to still. And I mean real ADs. When you look at what's here, what's to offer. It's a South Eastern Conference job. There are only about 12 of those, 11 of them that are like incredibly appealing in all of. There aren't many SEC premiere jobs available. And that's kind of the holy grail for an athletic director. And i think, I think, you know, it's a challenge for anybody, to look at a place like this, and go wow, I could go there and I can win championships, and they haven't won championships there. And in a perfect world, I won't have to hire a football coach or basketball coach for awhile. On top of that, they're very proven. One of them is a national championship coach. Buzz Williams is so proven, at multiple stops , he's a conference champ and a sweet sixteen coach. Like...and oh by the way, because of this FUBAR that happened, you're going to be paid a quite a bit of money too, because A&M has to go out and get the guy,

Mod: Isn't the first question, whoever they zero in on, isn't the first question in his mind, to the A&M brass gonna be like. Why would Scott Woodward leave a place like this? What caused him to leave this place? What caused him to leave? Am I going to have to come in and to deal with this stuff?

Looch: I think they can overcome it. For all the reasons I just said. Nothing's perfect. Texas A&M is not a clown show. I think sometimes we get frustrated and rightfully so. I think last night. I think everyone had a right to be extremely frustrated and disappointed and even off the rails a little bit. I think that was on of those rare times, yeah, throw your hands in the air like you just don't care. No, but you know, I felt like, it was fine. There are times when I was like, a mini slight meltdown was warranted and that was one of them. I get it, and I was right there with you. But this is not a clown show here. it's been at times in the past. It's not man. This is a very attractive situation. Because ADs and good ones that are at Big Schools understand nowhere is perfect. Everywhere's got issues. There is nowhere where your gonna go and it's the perfect situation of you know  like President, chancellor, head coach, athletic director, board, donors. This place is probably the best when it comes to donors, with big big big time money that don't meddle and don't bother. You'd be surprised. I mean you'd be really surprised when coaches get here. And ADs, they're like, wow, All these big oil guys, all these guys with petroleum, everybody in the petroleum industry, all this money, and they don't meddle. They don't demand stuff. They don't demand the head coach be on speed dial.  You know like...this place does not have more issues than others.
