If true, we better be getting Evans or circle back on Ngata. Would be disastrous to only sign 2 RBs after the Corbin news yesterday

2020's sock?

Seriously, is everyone that makes a post like this one going to come back and promise not to lose their **** next cycle when they think disaster is afoot? It's gotten so ridiculous, the use of words like 'disastrous' about things that aren't even actually taking place yet. The Ags are going to end up with Achane and a member of the group of three they've targeted at the top for months now. So two of the big four we've been discussing, just like I said they would six months ago. It doesn't happen as simply as snapping your fingers guys. It just doesn't.

Smith is already signed at Stanford. Evans is allegedly at Georgia. That leaves Ngata - who very much looks like he’s headed to ASU but might be persuaded by a very large money order.

Lucci is the best.

He literally is the person who builds up the Aggy fanbase every single season, promising unparalleled recruiting and championship seasons, and then has the audacity to accost these same people who complain when none of his promises come to fruition.

I guess KKL doesn't realize that Evans has until February to sign.  Now the letter he sent into Georgia is just sour grapes that she lost and that money is gone. Maybe she can pull a Tony Buzbee....pay for a hooker, she steals your 8 ball, art from your house and keeps the fee without service. That fool called the cops. Let the NCAA know KKL that Evans cashed the check and didn’t sign for Jimbo!!!   Aggy gonna aggy

The hottest topic right now is the prospect that five star running back Zach Evansis now projected to land at Georgia after reportedly being down to A&M and LSU. The Aggies went all in on Evans which may have seemed like a good idea back during the summer when A&M had five running backs on campus in Jashaun Corbin, Jacob Kibodi, Cordarrian Richardson, Deneric Prince, and freshman Isaiah Spiller. However, injuries and the NCAA portal combined to reduce the position to just two players plus whoever could be signed in the 2019 class. Some of that attrition was expected, some it wasn’t, particularly Corbin was injured early in the 2019 season but was expected to return to form.

A&M also was confident that they were going to flip Dallas Jesuit product EJ Smith which would have made things look a lot different a week ago than they do today. That would have given them five backs in the program which was the same number that they had on campus last summer and that’s not counting all purpose back Devon Achane from Fort Bend Marshall who’s also in this class.

On the surface, A&M would be in the same place as it started months ago. I’m not sure that people have taken that into consideration.

Things began to change around signing day when Smith decided to stick with Stanford and then nothing happened on the Evans front. Evans has always been high on Georgia but some of the issues he had this season at North Shore had apparently cooled the Bulldogs on him and allowed A&M to make a real run at him.

A&M boss Jimbo Fisher doesn’t believe in throwing darts when it comes to recruiting. He and his staff will watch lots of film and extend lots of offers but when it comes down to it they actually recruit very few players because he believes in building relationships with prospects. He’s said this many times and it’s enabled him to recruit well across state lines because the relationships overcome obstacles such as distance from home and other factors. It also allows A&M to make “statements” when it comes to recruiting and come from behind when most people don’t think that they will win out in the end.

Because of this, Fisher is going to go all in on people to an extent and perhaps moreso than many coaches. You can argue whether or not that’s good or bad. However, it can lead to situations in which the relationship may not matter as much as it does in other instances when signing day rolls around and this may be one of those instances. As a result, if you don’t have a backup plan that’s readily available, then it can open you up to criticism and perhaps create a hole in your roster that shouldn’t have been otherwise been there.

But keep in mind one other thing: Fisher made a serious run at Texas commit and offensive lineman Javonne Shepherd for the late signing period last year and didn’t have much of a backup plan at the time. Shepherd ended up signing with Texas anyway and so it looked like Fisher had miscalculated.

But here we are nearly 12 months later and Shepherd is in the NCAA portal and is expected to be in College Station next month.

In other words, Fisher’s ability to build a relationship and his tenacity paid off in the long run. Given the degree of player movement these days, if Evans signs elsewhere, A&M could serve as a possible landing destination on down the road.

Recruiting a roster of prima donnas, malcontents and academic risks is not going to blow up in any way. Also it's been hinted that Shepard is rolling with a 0.0 GPA.

This is fucking hilarious. You see, even though Shepherd is losing a year of development in the aggy system, Jimbo played the long game beautifully with a kid that has major red flags including eligibility.

Never mind most of his transistion class has already portaled, and his 1st full class is close behind them.

In fairness, he charges most of them for it as well so that's pretty impressive.

Jimbo is a walking boss with a plan.  He ain't throwing darts.  Every aggy recruit is going to be "shakin it boss".  Is Javonne a  dumber version of Dragline?

No, he got aggy to pay twice.

Recruiting a tackle that comes in his own class is exactly like recruiting one that will actually be eligible two years later, with the additional baggage that comes from being run off his initial team and spending half a year in the wilderness.

Jimbo nailed it as per usual.

Achane is listed as 5’9 170 which means he is closer to 160. If they actually try and line this kids up as tailback in jimbos offense he is going to die.

Na, 2 TEs and 2 guys in the backfield is the offense of the future. He'll be fine.

so Jimbo's escape plan is right on schedule. excellent.

Achane is pretty awesome as a Percy Harvin type, if used correctly. If Jimbo thinks he’s Dalvin Cook, that guy won’t make it through most games. He’s around 170, but he’s running track in college and won’t likely ever bulk up.

Jimbo already has a large percentage of kids he recruited leaving the program, but he builds such a great relationship with the recruits he misses on that he might be landing his first big transfer in three years that he originally missed on, if his grades are in order

Stupid sip ::

Screen-Shot-2019-12-22-at-11-18-09-AM.pn

and this guy points to all of the NFL guys under 5'10"

Screen-Shot-2019-12-22-at-11-19-47-AM.pn

the first one I googled was Nyheim Hines who was 5'9" 187 in high school. (so ~30 pounds more than Achane).

Dion Lewis was 5'7" 182.

Lindsey 5'9" 183

Singletary 5'7" 191

so .... I don't think he made the point he was trying to make.

Achane is fucking awesome. He's not a RB.

if I had a Texas win for every time I'd heard someone make that comparison without it panning out, we'd be a lot better than .550 the past decade.

I was thoroughly impressed with Achane. Wish we would have pursued him more. Perfect H back. No way he makes it through a college schedule carrying the ball 15 times a game, especially with the shitty OL aggy has.

Username checks out. 🙂

Actually, an H-back is like a combo of a tight end and fullback, I thought.

Blocker, lead blocker, occasional pass catcher/carrier.  If this guy is too small to be an RB (he's 5-9 170), then he would be way too small to be an H-back .... guessing you mean a slot receiver who occasionally carries the ball.

yes, that position is called the H in Herman's offense. The hybrid TE/FB is the Y.

I can see his confusion because the H in Tom Herman's offense is very different from a H-back
