I know I told this story on the other site, but my younger brother is a Tech grad and also a big college football fan. its sometime in early 2007, His then- fiance (also Tech) doesnt give a shit about football.  He relayed this story to me

She originally wanted to schedule the wedding in October 2007.  My brother being slightly intelligent looked up the date she picked.   yep, OU.

Brother knew that wouldnt work. He flat out told his fiance that AUS-97 would absolutely not attend the wedding if it was OU day.  She laughed, and said of course I would be there.   He said something like, " I know my brother, and I know his #1 requirement is going to OU, he will go to that game over going to our wedding."  She basically called him an idiot, and grumbled a bit and I guess there were some other conflicts so she finally agreed to be a June bride in 2008.

However, my brother did not forget the conversation.  So once they settled on the day, he dared her to call me and let me think it was Oct 2007.  I have no idea of any of the above discussions before we talk.

So I get this call sometime in 2007, my future SIL calls and says she's set the wedding date (important- she doesnt tell me the date yet), and that they want me to be a groomsman.  I tell her I am honored.

She says something like awesome, butters me up some and then and says that it will be October Xth.   I pause because that date sounds familiar.  (hey, i didnt have a smart phone yet), so I kind of stall while getting to my computer to confirm that they fucking picked OU.

As I hear the story from Her years later, my entire voice and demeanor changed.  She later said it was the darkest conversation she has ever had with me.

All I remember is.... I am fucking pissed! my fucking brother knows better than to fuck with OU, and he let this fucking happen!  I ask what time is the wedding (its in Dallas),  2pm.  MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!  But I had accepted my fate, I know this is gonna piss my parents off something fierce, and probably her family as well, but I go super calm, and tell the future SIL that I really love my brother, and I will love her as well, but Ive got plans for that Saturday and I cant go to the wedding.

She plays it up, "what do you mean you have plans, you are part of the wedding you need to be there.... blah blah"  and I just say, I cant go its OU.   She whines a bit says you would go to a football game over MY wedding.... and I answer yes.

and then I hear my brother laughing his ass off in the background, saying "I TOLD YOU!!!!"  and thats when they tell me the wedding really is in June.   whew.

to this day she still is convinced that I would have gone to the wedding in Oct....  I have said I might have missed another game, but I wasnt missing OU.

A man got to have a code.

Good thing about getting old is you no longer go to weddings but only funerals.

I have found as I get older I make it to more weddings.  Partying is fun.

Not during football season though...

Or a divorce.

Sorry your wife is fat and ugly.  Mine is a nine.  She’s in the newspaper all the time for being so lovely.  You should get one.

I've had weddings on the Iowa/Iowa State game 2 years in a row after avoiding it for years.  It is always the 2nd Saturday in September, period.  Every one in this state knows it.  That's the reason you got half price on the venue, you fucktard.

Shit part is I pretty much had to go to both.  One was my step brother, who I don't really associate with much or even know that well, but my mom would have had a goddamned shit fit and my brother was going, so I was going to be the asshole.  The other was an employee of mine who is good at what she does, and it at least didn't require me to miss any of the game.  I still didn't actually go.

I'd love to see a bill passed that stated any marriage performed on the second Saturday of September in Iowa would not be recognized by the state.

They still do those escort / "massage" ads in the Austin Chronicle?

Kind of a missed connections thing.  But I tell the other kids in my junior high that we're together.  We're probably going to Niagara Falls again this summer.

It sounds like your wife is a pig and you’ve got to make up for this ego blow by posting repeated insipid posts on the Internet about how hot she is and how smart you are. Tough break, man, good luck with it.

A smart guy will see if that counts for marriage out of state, as Las Vegas, the guy goes home to his real wife, the other chick never knows the difference that the marriage is voided...

I like weddings. Hot women in dresses, open bar, decent food, dancing.

I like college football more. I’ve skipped a handful of weddings due to football games, some of which were UT grads and supposedly football fans.

Also, if you are the guy scheduling your wedding on a bye weekend, just remember that your anniversary will often conflict with future games.

The Niece scheduled her wedding on Texas/USC weekend, after figuring out that about 60% of the RSVPs said they would not be attending, she moved it to the following weekend. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's Texas/TCU weekend so things won't be a changin'. She needs to have a floating start time to schedule around the game.

Lol anyone that schedules weddings in the fall is usually trying to get cheap ass rates on the space/honeymoon

nut the fuck up and have it in the summer...jfc
Or dead of winter if you're in North Texas. I highly recommend late January. Good chance the weather will be decent or even pretty nice (nasty stuff usually takes a break in January and starts back up in Feb)

Of course you have to schedule around the SB, but that's pretty easy to do. The hardest part is getting brides to agree to a cold weather wedding, but plan a tropical honeymoon to compensate. $9.95 accepted by paypal.

I skipped one that was held during a Texas v OU game. I saw it as the bride trying to get as few of the friends of the groom to show up. Most did show up so I felt bad for just a little bit then I blamed my friend. The way I saw it is that my friends balls had already been cut off even before he said I do and he was a lost cause. Of course that is just rationalizing guilt away because most of us that are married know there is no winning with the wife.

Candidly we got married in November.  Wife was adamant we not push it into the following year, but we needed time to get it together.  So her dad and I sat down (he was one of the biggest trojan honks ever) and decided on Nov 16.  UCLA was on the road against U of A (and we really sucked that year).  Game was at 12:30 so I could watch it before the wedding.  And SC was off.  We told the wife that was the day, and make it work.  We did.

Married a girl I almost wouldn't date. She's hot, funny, but then I found out she was from NorCal. I'm thinking great she's probably a radical Lib, doesn't shave her armpits and eats granola every meal (as others have said, a man's gotta have a code). Take her out to TexMex and she likes it, tell her some jokes and she laughs instead of thinking of how it offends Aggys. We get married late October but on a Sunday (she gets it). Next year her sister is getting married in NorCal and we are playing Rice. Without me saying a word, she tells me to go to the game and she will tell her family that I had to work. At that point, I was certain that this marriage was going to last. Eight years after that she buys me a ticket to the NC game in L.A. and says "I don't really have time to go, but you have a good time". Now up to 22 years. There were times in my life when I thought I would just end up single, oh did I luck out.

Shit at least she tried to move it. Once those broads have a date picked out they'll lose their fuckin mind if they have to change anything about their "perfect wedding".

Luckily all my friends are now married (at least the ones who's weddings I'd have to be in). Last fall I had 3 weddings in 4 weeks that I was either a groomsman or they needed my kid as the ring bearer. I feel like if someone asks you to be in a wedding they need to give you the time-frame upfront so at least you have the ability to turn them down ASAP.

This is the truth.  I have been invited to a wedding on Sunday, October 14, the day after the UT/Rapelor game.  I asked why they were getting married on a Sunday.  I was hoping that it was to appease everyone not to interfere with college football since I know the groom and his family are big sports enthusiast.  The groom started out playing baseball for Vandy but later transferred to TCU and played on their World Series teams.  The bride and groom are both TCU grads.  However, to my dismay, I was told it was because of the price and availability of the venue.  The bride's parents are dentists.  The groom's father is a grossly wealthy CPA that has his own successful firm.  I guess that if you have money that is how you keep money!

Just tell them that you'll catch their next wedding.

In my experience, people love that response.

What home game does Texas have on the schedule other than usc that is worth att being over a wedding?  Yeah. None of them.  And I don’t like attending weddings.

With 96 posts I think you are serious. I would go to any of our games over a wedding, might even attend an open practice over any random wedding.

My brother got married on Farmageddon 2014.  I was the best man.

In his defense, it was originally supposed to be a bye week.  It was an 11AM kick, so all the groomsmen and a bunch of my cousins drank bloodies and got buzzed at the sports bar across the road from the hotel, which just so happened to be the official ISU Alumni game watch site in the Twin Cities.

Making the best of a bad situation 101.

All of them. Any football game is better than a wedding.

Watching paint dry is better than attending a wedding.

Uh, what? Some of the best times in my life were at  wedding receptions.

I wish I attended more weddings and watched fewer games where Strong and Shawn Watson shit the bed to be honest.

Scheduled mine for the dead week between the conference championship games and the Super Bowl.  Anniversary was always observed on the dead weekend, no matter when it fell on the secular calendar.

Anyway, he just got divorced.  Serves him right.

I've always assumed that the people who get married on football Saturdays do so because they couldn't believe the church had an opening on that day. They never stop to wonder why it's available.

I actually like weddings.  It feels good to drink in nice clothes.  And I'm also a big fan of cake and coffee.  I remember one in particular at the Barr mansion where I spent 15-20 min out of each hour out in the car listening to the game on the radio.  40-45 min of champagne and open bar.  Even though you may know the outcome I still like to watch every play the next day, to see who did well, who didn't etc. They make these things called dvr's.   You should check into them.

I got married in June when it was 400 degrees outside. We had an indoor wedding.

My wife is still trying to figure out how I can go to the game and go to the wedding. She made a joke that I should go to the game in a suit and go to the wedding after the game. I told her I’d show up to the wedding in jeans and a UT shirt. She laughed, I didn’t.

fuck OU. I’m going to the game.

Football season has been largely forgettable the last 4 years due to Strong/Watson/Bedford and Tim Beck.  I was at a wedding in Tiburon last fall during Texas-OU but it wasn't a big deal since it was a likely loss.

Streamed the game briefly on my phone during the first half when we were getting pummeled but nothing really to see. Watched the 2H comeback at a bar next to the venue only to watch Brandon Jones trip on his dick at the end.

The date was 1111.  Eleven Eleven.  Two Thousand and Eight.  Every October 11th, for as long as you both shall live, you need to light her up with a new cat facts subscription.   And when your brother remarries, tell him he's on his own if he or they want a traditional wedding between Labor Day and the Superbowl.
