Remind me the next time I'm facing legal trouble to threaten the one person who can actually help protect me, with rumors of non-consensual gay sex.

Someday when this is all over, we're gonna learn what bizarre cocktail of prescription meds he was on, cut it up with some coke and molly and call it "Trumping Balls"

So his legal team is attempting to quash the grand jury report in Atlanta.  Now I am not a legal person, but I'm pretty sure that this has zero chance of working.  Wouldn't the appellate court basically say that the potential defendant gets to make this argument in court proceedings post indictment?  If I am reading this correctly, does this mean they are trying to appeal an indictment prior to it even being filed?

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/20/trump-seeks-to-block-georgia-election-interference-criminal-charges.html

Hard to tell, honestly.  Looks like a lot of issues particular to Georgia law and special purpose grand juries.

But yeah, you're right, most objections to grand jury proceedings come after the indictment.

What this does seem to evidence is Trump's usual strategery of going on offense before he has to go on defense.  I think that works sometimes in civil cases because it just floods the channel with bullshit, increases the amount of work for everyone,  and delays the ultimate settlement.  There's always a settlement.

I don't think it's going to work quite like that in that he's probably going to lose this and insulate his indictment from scrutiny.  If it isn't dismissed on some variant of standing, because as it stands, he's nothing more than a theoretical target of investigation of the special purpose grand jury.

So question for the lawyers.

If dotard is indicted, could the judge issue a gag order to all parties and, if so, would he/she?  Also, what happens when dotard breaks the order?

Yes.  Contempt, first a fine, then potential detention.

Is there anyone, even the most broke-brained MAGAT pillow clutchers, who is arguing that Trump is innocent and did not pay this porn star? Or is it all just anger that he’s not getting away with it?

Are you joking?  You doubt if there are reality deniers out there?

Strangely enough, it's not illegal in most places to buy someone's silence on something.  The most obvious "illegality" would be if the someone is extorting that purchase.

That the payment was made seems indisputable and not disputed by Trumpco.  But it became an unlawful campaign contribution when he made it as a candidate, which is one relatively minor crime.  Secondarily, the "paperwork" was "doctored" to make it look like a payment of legal fees and disguise its true character.  That is, somewhat uniquely, a crime under New York state law.

Good points.  It was the reporting mechanism that really got him into this hot water.  Hush money and what is essentially prostitution (though really expensive sex) wouldn't have gotten him to this point.

You know they're nervous when the working defense in the public arena is, "It's not illegal if it's to keep his wife from finding out."  Imagine the fucking case precedent that would set.  O.J. trial woulda never happened, "Your honor, it's not a crime to kill a bitch to keep her from finding out I'm gonna kill her."

The power move for DeSantis is to do what you all claimed above and let Trump be extradited but then say that with your support I will pardon him once I’m elected president.

*Ignoring the state vs federal charges details.

He's so far doing about what I figured his only move was.  But yes, at some point during primary season---they're all gonna get asked if they'll pardon Trump.  And they'll get to DeSantis and he'll have to say with a straight face, "Look, I'm not some sophisticated lawyer.  I am merely a decorated veteran of the Navy JAG Corps and graduated from the best law school on Earth.  I don't know the ins and outs of federal versus state crimes to be pardoned here."

If Phil Hartman were alive, it would make the greatest SNL sketch in history, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am but a humble caveman lawyer.  I'm not familiar with your ways and laws.  Your debate stage lights frighten me."

It’s still going to be Trump vs Biden again.  Doesn’t matter how much he gets indicted now, it’s too little too late.  Sorry Ron, you’re just too much of a cuck sideshow in this timeline.

Was it the white Wellies? It was the white Wellies wasn’t it?

Note to self, next time we do crimes...just file for candidacy of some low-level elected office and claim, "Political Witch Hunt" and by all rights, they have to drop the charges against me by Trump Precedent.

I'd enjoy this whole thing unfolding a lot more if I wasn't 99% sure that several people are going to die in New York tomorrow afternoon/night.

MAGA vs NYPD is one of matchups where you root for a meteor.

Hes melting down on truth

Kind of a tell that something is up and he's been told something, but he's ran his mouth...errr...fingers before and nothing happened.  But this feels different, and then you have the barricades being put up in NYC.

Let’s think about this for a second ……

how fucking stupid does a ‘billionaire’ and ex president have to be, to be arrested ?

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

For hush money to a mistress.  Which a "billionaire" could have easily had his lawyer disguise as some kind of services rendered for any of his numerous little LLCs he's got floating around.  But no, it had to be done in a way to get him caught.

So if shit goes down, when and how do we think we will actually know?  24 hours in advance?  Somebody leaking flight details?  NYPD setting up barricades?

I figured all the Surly Bonanza pilots would be on it just like a coaching search.

The really funny thing about DeSantis and the white Wellies is if he had worn regular boots and gotten a little wet/dirty, he looks like he really cares  swim shorts, a t-shirt, and flip flops he would've looked like he cared so much he immediately rolled out of bed and went out to see the damage.    Instead, he looks like a weiner.

He would've fit in so much better as a regular guy even with all the officials with their uniforms and what not.
