Missing the point.  Just put him on record.  I want to hear how he answers the question.

Is he historically literate enough to mention FDR and the need to revert the law or would it just be uneducated dictator response? I'd assume the latter, but the most shocking thing would be if he said he agreed with the two term 8-year limit. I can't imagine that coming out of his mouth.

That's the hope. But I'm skeptical. How many are absolutely convinced that Biden has been up to treasonous activities with his son? They might not want Trump, but "the alternative is worse!" Especially if the economy has even the tiniest of hiccups.

No, the law has yet to fail with Trump.  It's not proceeding according to your timeline, but it has yet to fail.

Moreover, I submit that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and the law represents a cure.

The GOP could have kept Trump off the ballots if they'd really wanted to, but they were willing in their quest for power to permit idiocracy to serve them up a useful idiot a few final times before dismantling it.

The DOJ waited a year before engaging.  Crucial time lost, and this fact undermines your position.

Though I agree with you about prevention. What is your take on efforts along those lines?

This is so true.  Very smart people still believe he won’t necessarily win the nomination.

My doctor (bright guy and very non-MAGA) was asking me about this at my checkup yesterday.  He asked me who I thought would win the R nomination.  I said barring something completely changing the landscape,, Trump will get the nomination in a landslide.  He seemed pretty surprised.  I think a lot of people simply don't want to believe that the GOP has gone all in on the cult of personality and sold their souls.

I’m with Steamboat - most of my relatives or acquaintances that were excited about Trump in 2020 are not excited now.  He’s not exactly on the campaign circuit and most of his bitching these days is about his criminal stuff or various grievances that are constantly repeated.

In terms of Biden, a lot of the more moderate types on the right have shit to do and are not glued to Fox or NewsMax or whatever.   Plus this stuff has been dragging for years and nothing big enough has really happened for them to care about, whether it’s locking up Hillary or Hunter’s laptop, because they’ve been hearing about it for years.

Here in CR, we fall into the trap of thinking all Republicans are MAGA and are glued to Fox News 24/7 when that’s not really the case - witness all of his endorsements that went nowhere or were defeated.  The reality is that Trump isn’t on twitter, and the vast majority of previous Trump supporters are only hearing about him in the context of his court cases, which isn’t a good thing for him. Whether they think he’s innocent or not, it’s not a good look for him and many just want somebody else who is not facing all of these indictments. And they aren’t showing up in massive numbers outside of the courthouses

It’s like assuming all aggy are reading TexAgs 24/7 and care deeply about what Luigi says about coaching changes or whatever, when in reality most have never heard of TexAgs or won’t think too much about it until next fall. Aggy cranked out another mediocre season and there was a coaching change and that’s it.  They will file it away for next year and just hope that next year aggy keeps it close and maybe cranks out a 9 win season and get a bowl they can travel to.

We are very guilty of being an echo chamber and assuming that all Republicans are closely following his trials and think he’s 100% innocent or following the Hunter laptop shit, just like some of us assume all aggy are ardent TexAgs posters.   Will many vote for him? If they are at the polls yes, but they have to already be there and he’s worn them out on the same shit he’s been bitching about for years.

I really hope you're right.  HOWEVER, let's not forget, let's NOT forget that motherfucker actually GAINED votes in 2020 compared to 2016.  It could very well be that all these people aren't paying attention to him and his trials because they don't give a fuck if he's innocent or guilty.  They will still yank that R lever like they are starting a mower.

It's too dangerous to assume otherwise.

I’m not surprised that more voted. I know quite a few people who didn’t vote in 2016, who voted for him in 2020, either because they thought Hillary would win, or that their vote didn’t matter, or they didn’t really follow the primaries and didn’t get excited about him until after he won.  It’s not hard to check voting records in a lot of states, or check social media profiles.

Now he’s already lost one election bigly and he’s mostly in the news for his indictments or because he or his circle said something really shitty.  It’s not a well-managed campaign at all.

We independents or Democrats are tired of him, and it’s not unreasonable to think many on the right are as well. He’s not giving his followers anything new other than his grievances about details in his court cases, which many won’t hear or care about.

I think at this point his "arrests" should tell you a lot. How many folks came out to support him? It wasn't some January 6th re-do.

And this is where I wonder if the J6 stuff was a line too far for some his voters (not hardcore supporters but voters) as well as there’s just a mountain of stuff that came out about him.

The J6 folks are just not showing up at his court cases or are outnumbered by the media.

Motherfucker, an outright and open christofascist is second in line for president behind Kamala. It's not fucking fringe. It's currently in power and actively controlling what legislation will be voted on

He doesn't control the Senate, and at the rate things are going, he'll either be booted out because the Dems are back on top, or because Gaetz/MTG/etc. are not happy that he's doing some stuff Biden wants and one of them will file a motion to vacate.  Hell, Gaetz has already threatened him as recently a few weeks ago, over some of the spending stuff.

He doesn't control the Senate but he can unilaterally block any further aid packages to Ukraine, or any other legislative moves that his fascist base dislikes.

Not disagreeing with you there, but he's down to just one or two seats by the end of the month, and he's got Gaetz/MTG/Boebert/etc. breathing down his neck over stupid shit and they are more than happy to be chaos agents and screw things up again.  I do not think he'll be the speaker come the end of January.

They definitely should. And then keep asking him.

Dotard has no self-control, he'd eventually slip up, "WON"T NEED ONE" or go full "YOU'RE GODDAMN RIGHT, I'M RUNNING AGAIN".

It wouldn't dissuade his supporters, and might even encourage them, but it might help more people recognize the danger.

If he wins in 2024, he'll never step down willingly, and I doubt we have another election. It will be a sham if we do.

A big burly man came up to me with tears streaming down his face, he said "sorry, Mr Dictator, I mean Mr President", that's what they like to call me, because i'm a man's man, the number one alpha, he said "i pulled the wrong switch in the voting booth, so you didn't get 100% of the vote.  That it was only 99.99999% was my fault."  I hugged him and wiped away his tears, i kissed him on the cheek and told him it was ok. He was executed later that night, I'm sure he did some bad stuff anyway, he looked like he was part Mexican.

An irony of all of this is that the morons present their largest threat via democracy.  The founding fathers realized that and installed certain features, like the electoral college, as a backstop against ti.  But due to high concentrations of morons in populous states, e.g Texas, the EC wound up reinforcing the morons.

This is actually bass ackwards.

The Electoral College favors the rural minority over the urban majority. And you know what the rural minority is?

If el presidente were decided by national popular vote, I think the last Republican president we'd have had would've been GWB.

2004 Bush won popular vote by about 3mm and 3%.

Bush 41 in 1988, Reagan in 1984, Reagan in 1980, Nixon in 1972, Nixon in 1968.  6 out of the last 16.  The fluctuation of the EC spread from cycle to cycle is the crazy part to me.

In 2020, 25mm for Trump to the death.  25mm straight ticket, didn't read the top of the ballot, 25mm weren't crazy about it but voted for him anyway and maybe even had a mixed bag down ballot.  5mm of those middle 25mm stay home across 6-10 key states, Trump is a footnote of history and dies in reclusive shame in a few years.  Youth vote or urban turnout don't matter, keep a few million of that middle bloc at home across a few states and he's dead and gone.  There will be an ensuing battle regardless but then...thanks to the infrastructure bill...we're building more railroad tracks every week in this country.  Those cars can carry people, too.

You're half right. W won the popular vote in '04, so he's the most recent one to win. Does he win in '04 if Gore wins in '00? Probably not.

He certainly wouldn’t have been able to invade Iraq before the ‘04 election when he would be enjoying high approval ratings during the pre-quagmire portion of the war.

So, they won't vote actively against fascism? They'll stick with their team that seeks fascism just not this one guy.

Yay! We win another narrow election victory against overt fascist, racist underminers of the republic. Hooray!

This plague is rolling right along no matter what happens in the presidential election. All this shit has become normalized in that it's not opposed or dismissed out of hand by a large portion of the electorate:

  • Banning books
  • Painting homosexuals as de facto threats to children
  • Denying the science of defeating illness or anticipating climate cataclysm
  • Assuming non-GOPs are whatever they think socialists are bent on destroying dear old America
  • Opposing tolerance (simple fucking tolerance!) of fellow citizens known as woke-ism
  • Refusing to believe any fact that challenges their loyalty
  • Siding with Russia's imperial crime-against-humanity slaughter in Ukraine

All of that is just off the top of my head.

All of that was laughable pre-Reagan/Rush.

None of that will evaporate with the election of Joe Biden.

It's the electorate.

Yeah, Gore would've invaded Iraq instead. Then everyone would've been all "Gore lied, people died" n shit
