Burgum = boring

I don’t believe this for a second, but if it were to happen, that man is a full on traitor the likes of which would be rivaled by almost no one in the modern day besides a lot of people on the right, BUT god damn. What a grifter, if true.

This is the problem I see with a lot of "conservatives" I know: they don't think shit through. I put quotes around "conservative" because they're actually just knee-jerk reactionaries. Yours is a great example.
  • Another would be the lower-my-taxes-no-matter-what crowd (Roads will crumble, yo. That fire truck won't pay for itself.).
  • Or the I-want-God-back-in-school (Are you sure you want *their* god in your kid's school?).
  • And the people-shouldn't-be-on-welfare folks (Cool. So, are you willing to have your mother-in-law, who's on social security, move in with you?).
I imagine most of them are really shitty chess players, as they can't seem to think more than a step or two ahead.
Of course, this applies to some liberals as well, mostly younger people, but the majority of them eventually grow out of it.

I suspect they suck at Checkers as well, and Candyland. Probably flip the board over with Monopoly.

It's more that people can't see much further down the road than what is immediately in front of them, causal effects be damned (if even considered).

This is the answer to pretty much every problem in human history. It is compounded by people who don’t care to understand history. And around and around the drain we go. We are almost at the bottom. For America anyway.

It would destroy Texas’s economy.  And I mean destroy it. There would be so many million- and billion-dollar companies that would have to fold or shrink way down.  Hell, a shitload of local six-figure companies would go under as well. People truly do not realize how the economy in Texas works.  Quite a few family farm and ranches would find themselves being sold off by the banks.

I’ve told relatives who espouse this shit just what it would mean - imagine replacing the Mexican who mows their lawn or puts a new roof on their house with an “American” who wants twice as much (or more) money and half-as-many hours, nor the Honduran who changes the oil or tires on their truck, or the Guatemalan who harvests the tomatoes they eat, or the Mexican who brings their food out at the restaurant, or the Nicaraguan who works the kitchen there, or the Brazilian who fucks their wife or daughter, or the Panamanian or Costa Rican who cleans the hotel room they stay in, or the Mexican who cleans their home, or the Guatemalan who cleans the bathrooms and empties the trash at work, or the Venezuelan or Salvadoran that repaves the street in their area or helps build their dream home - imagine replacing all of those jobs and many more with Americans with 2-3 the price of non-Americans, and probably higher because the labor market will be turbofucked,  Not to mention all of the businesses that sell to these people, that would also go under.

As long as it doesn’t affect housing inventory in a manor that would drive prices sky high again.

Housing inventory won’t be a problem, given the number of foreclosures due to a shitload of businesses going under and people getting laid off.  Of course, food will get really fucking expensive, as would gas, and the service industry, etc.

It’s interesting to ponder - imagine just a single industry that relies heavily on illegal immigration.  Either imagine that industry collapsing or at least raising their labor costs drastically.  Imagine what that does to their customers’ buying habits and imagine what it does to the companies that rely on them.

Remember this moron: https://www.businessinsider.com/florida-restaurant-owner-desantis-supporter-forced-fire-undocumented-staff-2023-8

(Full disclosure -- I actually went to one of this guy's restaurants in Tampa many years ago when I was there for a wedding with my wife. It was quite good. But, oops, those unintended circumstances. Forced to pay $500K fine and let go all of his undocumented employees.)

On a serious note I have a few older black patients who farm/ranch. Very few of their kids have any interest in helping out. They can’t even get their grandkids to come out to ride horses, shoot guns, etc. much less shred the pasture, repair fences, vaccinate and castrate livestock and such. We have the same issue with our family farm. The only people willing to do this work seem to be families from southern Mexico and Central America. And their kids aren’t following in the parents’ footsteps. It’s going to be a big problem in the near future I’m afraid

Trump whines about tech companies being prejudiced against him, but fucking Microsoft Co-Pilot does everything it can to discourage you from creating something even remotely resembling him, starting making all orange-haired men have large beards, even when you add "clean shaven" or "without a beard" or "no beard" into the description.  If you mention Trump by name, it threatens an account suspension.

Steinmart is still open.  Montgomery Ward is too old school/upscale.  You're right, should be Mervyn's.  Because they went financially under in 2021, right when Trump did.

I like it, let's get shirts made up for it and sell 'em at Foley's.

Spoiler

She then told a story of an individual coming into her restaurant and paying for food.

“Just recently I had a migrant come into my cafe that recently passed through the borders and paid for their food with one of the prepaid cards they were given,” said Gray. “How is that as a slap in the face as a proud American who worked hard, just like each one of you? And to be affected by the food costs, utility costs, to have someone just come and just willy nilly pay for their food, in my cafe, with prepaid dollars that was funded by us.”

But Gray, according to federal court records, has received her own prepaid food.

She has filed for bankruptcy three times in the past decade and reported receiving Food Share benefits in the most recent filing.

Gray, in an interview, acknowledged receiving the benefits, but said there is a difference: she is a U.S. citizen. “I have worked since I was 16,” said Gray, 45. “I paid into the system.”

She's right. You never see Mexicans or other Hiispanics of color working their asses off in the hot sun for companies that deduct for Social Security and taxes. They could send money back to their families in their home countries if they'd just get off their lazy asses.

And how dare they ever be hungry when they're getting started! It's not humanity that a country with endless amounts of food wants to ease hunger; it's treason!
