Got to check that out. I loved Strange Trails and Lonesome Dreams. Vide Noir didn’t seem to capture the atmosphere of the first two.

Saw them at The Old 97’s County Fair and they were very good live.

I really like the single off the album. I think it’s “Not Dead Yet.”

I just listened to it, based on your five star recommendation.  Holy shit, I didn't realize people were making music these days that didn't sound like Dua Lipa/DaBaby/Justin Beaver/Ariana Grande.

Pleasantly surprised.

This is my favorite album of the year. The back half of the album is incredible.

I'll try it again. Maybe I'll make it to the back half this time.

lol this.  i like modest mouse but was very unimpressed with the first half.  i have a 5 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow, i'll give it a full, proper listen.

Lord Huron is my 13yo's favorite band, and as I posted in another thread, I'm pumped that I found tickets to see them at Red Rocks for his birthday.  Hell, they might be my favorite band at present -- when they auctioned a bunch of stuff to support their crew last summer, I spent a stupid amount of money.

They're definitely doing some different creative things.  The "Alive from Whispering Pines" streaming shows they did were really cool, and worth checking out on Youtube.

In other news, I heard this Vagabon track on KUTX a little while back, and damned if it's not still blowing my mind:

I'm really enjoying Japanese Breakfast. Be Sweet is a fun synth poppy 80s sound jam.

They've popped up on Spotify several times and I've been digging it.

Funny video. Interesting product placement with the wireless Beats headphones.

If you can’t have fun listening to the new modest mouse from wooden soldiers through never fuck a spider on the fly I don’t know what to tell you.  That’s good shit!

Modest Mouse was hip like 15 years ago. I haven't heard the album but they aren't exactly super relevant anymore. I don't think anyone's dogging your opinion - but no one besides big Modest Mouse fans are going to get hyped about them dropping something in 2021.

Lampshades on fire.  Fucking ass shaker.

modest mouse is not irrelevant. And if the white stripes got together again and put an album out for the first time in 18 years they suck?  Ztejas, bad take bro!!

Second half of the album is significantly stronger than the first half. To be honest, after the 1st 4 songs I had tuned out. Wooden Soldiers is alright. Starting with Transmitting/Receiving, the rest is really, really good.

I hope they have a tour going later this year as I need to rectify the massive mistake I made the last time they rolled through Dallas which was opting for Arcade Fire at the AAC over TWOD at the Bomb Factory. Rookie mistake.

I assume you saw that yes, they're touring. First 4 dates of the tour are in TX in January

Was mentioned on the 2020 thread.  Beadadoobee's new EP kind of slaps and has caused me to re-evaluate last years, stuff that I heard.

it's hard to tell where the 1975 production end and where she begins, but agreed - it's great.

and apologies to many, but the war on drugs are just boring as hell. immaculately produced and played, but damn. give me a hook.

Yes, I saw they were coming to the Toyota Music Factory out in Irving. Was hoping for the Bomb Factory but TMF is a cool mini-Starplex.

I just picked up a pair in the 100's. Looking forward to it. The Bomb Factory is going through, ahem, some issues right now. I love shows in Irving -- it's an easy get from my house in Bluffview and I LOVE pre-gaming at Two Mules Cantina at the Texican Hotel across the street. LMK if you want to meet up over there -- they have killer drink specials and all the appetizers are like $5.

Man, I have to give it to you. This has really grown on me. Heard the first single XMU and thought it was OK and didn't give it much more thought. Saw your post praising it and fired it up on the way back from picking the kids up from camp. It got better the deeper you got into it but it was -- on the bizarre side. But "Fuck a Spider on the Fly" has been cropping up on my Spotify playlists and it's great. It's made me go back and agree that this album is pretty goddamn good.

I’m gonna do the top 10 surly albums this year. If @immamacwill allow it.

Very curious to see the age gap on the board. Back on hornfans we were all the same age.  I bet the results are crazy now.

Anybody gotten into Jelani Aryeh yet? Caught some of his stuff on XMU the past few months. Album was released 7/30. I dig it.

So maybe this should go into the 2020 music thread, but I came across the latest Blitzen Trapper album, Holy Demos, Future Demos. It seems to be the same songs as last years album Holy Smokes, Future Jokes but haven't listened enough to both to determine the differences other than maybe less production. In either form, its pretty badass and I highly recommend checking it out. Always appreciated their 70s vibe and unique song structure.

Baptismal

Sons and Unwed Mothers

Holy Smokes, Future Jokes

Don't Let Me Run

Requiem

Hazy Morning
