For the love of god hire Coach Boom. It has to happen. Straight up, ovaries on the table. Texas wins the Big 12 next year and Bijan goes to New York for the Heisman ceremony plus a top 5 recruiting class in 2022 if Boom is hired and Sark calls plays

We still have NSD2 as well for this year.

The thought of the following defensive staff would be really really good I think.

DC/LB - Will Muschamp

DE/Defensive RG Coordinator - Ryan Nielsen

DT - Bo Davis

CB/Defensive PG Coordinator - Cory Raymond/

Safeties - ???

As for offensive staff I think Sark will continue to coach QB's or split time and may even act as playcaller but who knows. This potential coaching staff for offense would be good as well. We could afford to pay Flood and Tee Martin around 1-1.25 million each and put the total for OC position at 2-2.5 million. It would be enough to bring Tee back to the college game and keep Flood from going to NFL/lure away from Bama.

OL/Co-OC - Kyle Flood - Giving him co-oc would increase pay

WR/AHC/Co-OC - Tee Martin

TE/Special Teams/Recruiting Coordinator(?) - Jeff Banks

RB coach - Samples/Drayton/Who?

QB Coach - AJ Milwee

Why would Bryce Young leave Alabama, where they play for titles every other year to come to Texas, especially when he is 1 week away from being their starter.

Think he was pretty high on Texas before we took Card so he is familiar with us

Remember Ricky was asking for that idiot Bucky Godbolt to stay when Mack got here.  Good thing that didn't happen.  Drayton is another story but the question has to be put to him also as to why he didn't push for Bijan sooner.  I'm all for him staying but I don't see Drayton keeping his asst head coach title.

I like the thought of Ash staying if no Boom.  Keep Hutzler.

The main guy i want to see Sark bring is Flood.

Since we just hired our coordinators, I wouldn't be surprised if this was part of the conversation as to whether or not Sark was comfortable working with them and he probably said "you're going to pay me how much again, Ok, sure, hook em."

I'll stop after this because there's a lot to discuss and digest, but I really don't understand why Muschamp would be allowed to keep Hutzler but somehow Ash needs Stoops to run a competent defense?  This smacks of the same cronyism we used to decry with Herman.  Ash and Hutzler did outstanding work this year, IMO.

Just because someone suggested it doesn’t make it so. Just let things play out and then assess the situation for what it is. I’ll never, ever understand why people latch on to these crazy unfounded rumors as fact.

I finally got a response from my friend who ghosted me during the last 10 plus days. He said to look at the staff hires as a sign for the portal-apocalypse coming.  He fully expects Sark to target a bunch of players in free agency.

Expand

LSU hired Austin Thomas which is a great move by their AD. His role will be like that of a NFL GM. College ball is going through a massive change with Name & Likeness, one time transfer rule, and constant roster churn with your own guys hitting the portal and scouring it to fit current roster needs and recruiting targets. LSU is ahead of the game and we need to hire someone as our “GM”. In my opinion, college roster construction is going to be much more challenging than what a NFL GM has to worry about. The players are going to have freedom of movement that will be unsettling. We need to be cutting edge and have offers for endorsements ready to recruits once NIL is legalized and have someone to help map out recruiting and transfer portal strategy. This is the future and the programs that adapt will be the ones who have success.

Man I hope Carrington is retained. Sark will be happy with what we have on offense and defense. His new staff (and hopefully some of the same) should get us 8 wins in year one on talent alone. He's gonna love Bijan, and I bet he'll make Jonathan Brooks more than serviceable. Rojo will still be bad ass. Thompson showed promise, and Card will be good. He'll get us Ewers back, and our recruiting will pick back up just one new coach smell alone.

The schedule next year is weak. 10 wins should be the expectation and I’d have said that if Herman was retained.

Ash only has 1yr left on his TEXAS contract... It's affordable too $800k/yr.  (Ash is still getting compensation from Rutgers in 2021). Also wonder if Boulware would agree to move to an off-the-field role since he is still under contract for two more years??  Yurcich still owed $1.7mill/yr for 2 more years...

Here’s a breakdown of Texas’ assistant coaching annual salaries (and remaining contract years):

  • Mike Yurcich, offensive coordinator, $1.7 million (three - through 2022 season)
  • Chris Ash, defensive coordinator, $800,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Jay Boulware, tight ends coach/special teams coordinator, $700,000 (three - through 2022 season)
  • Herb Hand, offensive line, $700,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Stan Drayton, running backs, $650,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Coleman Hutzler, linebackers, $600,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Mark Hagen, defensive tackles, $550,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Yancy McKnight, strength coach, $510,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Oscar Giles, defensive ends, $400,000 (two - through 2021 season)
  • Andre Coleman, receivers, $350,000 (year to year)
  • Jay Valai, cornerbacks, $300,000 (two - through 2021 season)

Mentally, I’m prepared for a ton of rumors next week but no official announcements until after the title game.

After watching Notre Dame look like a peewee team against Bama, I'm fully convince the schools who don't cheat are never going to win again. Notre Dame, even Texas, is not going to be able to regularly compete against $EC schools who perfected cheating from paying players, to pretend school, to steroids galore. If Texas is serious about competing it's going to have to play the game. Here's to hoping that the Sark hire and the assist coaches names are an indication that Texas is finally serious about playing the game on equal footing.

We definitely do all of that and we still lose.

K, my questions are...

"It's not resonable to think Sark would hire Mike Stoops, as he has not been clean for long enough to be selected as a reasonable choice for DC at UT. Why would anyone think he would be?"

"Don't you think licensed private investigators have vetted Sark's alcohol intake enough to satisfy the powers that be at UT?"

I think UT would be OK with a recovering alcoholic, who won the Broyles, but not OK with Mike Stoops, who needs more time (and for all we know may still be drinking compusively.)

One is more likely to beat their alcoholism if they have hope in life, and I'll bet he's been clean.

I'd have hired Bill O'Brien, but this may not be the catastrophe many of you are making it out to be.

(Qualifier: I don't want anything to happen at UT that upsets the balance of OU beating Texas at the rate Riley has been) So, take that for what it's worth. Food for thought.
