Sark after dark COACHING STAFF thread

My memory may be off here, but wasn't Klemm the UCLA guy who was a great recruiter but the complaint was his offensive lines weren't particularly good and he was not a great developer?  I could be wrong if he's managed to stick in the NFL under Tomlin... how bad could he be?

Man, I know these names are just being thrown out.  But imagine a staff with the Steelers OL coach, Lupoi, Tee Martin, Bo Davis.  All of those guys have a show clause.  If there was a big way to announce to the college football world that Texas is going to play the game, this would be the way to do it haha.

No viagra needed for any of the olds on this site if we landed them.

The first and foremost qualification of our OL coach has to be development.  As long as he's not a total fucking asshole everyone hates, we don't need a rainmaker recruiter there, although recruiting chops are great too.  If we can help Giles lazy ass fall into highly rated recruits, we can help the OL coach do the same.

Sark definitely has the connections if he’s got the budget, which at Texas I assume he does.

Is Klumm any good? Seems I too remember there may have been issues with the on the field product? He can definitely recruit, but at the OL position, evaluation and development is much more important than recruiting.

Washington Mod from 247 started a topic and has commented in others about Sark:

  • I dealt with Steve a lot while he was at Washington. First thing to know is he is incredibly bright. He learned a lot at Washington and fought some demons. He's a bright, articulate, charming, engaging guy who is also competitive as hell. He's appeared to put his demons behind him. You're going to love Sark. It will be interesting to see who he fills his staff with. Knowing the competitive nature of Sark, I'm sure he negotiated a large assistant salary pool. If he gets Tosh Lupoi on staff, watch out. Tosh is one of the best recruiters I've ever dealt with. He's currently with Atlanta. He's an outstanding recruiter and phenomenal working with QB's. He trusts his guys and has an edge. Guys love playing for him. Texas didn't hit a home run with Sark. They hit a grand slam.

  • Not sure you have a grasp on how good of a recruiter he is. Relentless and ruthless. He'll win the press conference, the team, and current recruits. He's good.

  • He did a pretty good job at UW. He took over an 0-12 program which was bad. Really bad. He changed the culture quickly and had the kids beleiviong in temselves. He hired Nick Holt as his DC, which didn't work at all. He let him go and hired Justin Wilcox, which was a home run. Won seven games his last two years, but recruited very, very well. was set up with a great roster once he purged all Tyrone's guys and improved the talent.

  • The Washington team that made CFP was mostl;y led by guys Sark brought in. Didn't mean to upset anybody, just thought I'd add my two cents on the hire since I dealt with him quite a bit at UW. Most Washington fans are happy for him because they understand the situation. Texas gained a lot of fans from the fine state of Washington today.Good luck

  • If I'm a Texas fan, I'm excited and intrigued. Especially interested in the staff he assembles. With stops at Washington, USC, Atlanta, and Alabama, I'm sure he's learned a lot. Sark isn't a rockhead. He's a very, very bright guy.

  • Tosh is in Atlanta and they will be hiring a new coach. Word from a source close to him is he would prefer to stay in the NFL. If he doesn't land an NFL gig, he could join Sark.

While it won’t happen, I’d like to see Scott Fuchs at Buffalo get a shot at as a P5 OL coach. He did incredibly well at NDSU from 09-13, Wyoming from 14-16 (I think) and now at UB. He might hate recruiting but he can sure develop linemen.

Totally agree. That guy Fuchs!

Game of telephone - but - poster on IT says that Anwar is reporting that Tee Martin is the guy to watch.  No idea if this actually means he's expected to be hired - or if we're just still throwing out every name thats ever been connected to Sark.

I said that Tee Martin was a person to watch on the first page of this thread, per Wikipedia

Also, I can’t say enough good things about Kyle Flood as an o line coach. His idiocy as a HC burned down Rutgers and made it impossible for the next guy to succeed (though Ash hired the worst offensive staff I’ve ever seen), but his o lines have been incredible. The ‘06 line was particularly great, and it helped that Ray Rice was running through the gaps they created. I think Sark would be reaching to name Flood as OC, but I’d bet anything that he’d build up a quality o line within two years.

Sark is likely to be the OC in practice, from what I understand. Or at least heavily involved. Any OC or Co-OC tags are probably to justify pay/moving.

Remember Ricky was asking for that idiot Bucky Godbolt to stay when Mack got here.  Good thing that didn't happen.  Drayton is another story but the question has to be put to him also as to why he didn't push for Bijan sooner.  I'm all for him staying but I don't see Drayton keeping his asst head coach title.

I like the thought of Ash staying if no Boom.  Keep Hutzler.

The main guy i want to see Sark bring is Flood.

Bucky was not here for Mackovic's last year based on what I heard him say a month ago on the radio..

I only read the first couple of threads from the HardcoreHusky site and they dislike Sark very much. Calling him “Elite” at failing upwards. I dunno but he did a good job at usc being three sheets to the wind. Same goes for having a top ten offense’s at Atlanta and we know what he’s doing at bama right now.

Those are some crazy motherfuckers on that site but as some have already said, they’d be pretty aligned here.

Are there any former Rutgers coaches that we haven’t hired?

In all the lists and things I've read, I haven't seen any speculation or names about strength and conditioning. That, arguably, is his most important hire.

This is the million dollar question.

It is very puzzling that there is no smoke here, no names that I’ve heard going around.  After working under Saban you’d think he’d understand where S&C fits into the process.

The hope is that he wouldn't have to read the room as CDC and co would have made it abundantly clear that rolling up in a clown car with rejects and has-beens would not be accepted as it had been in the past.

More than that, you would hope that Sarkisian, in his up-and-down experience, understands the need for a quality staff above all and without prompting from Del Conte or anyone else.

Honestly, the lack of smoke makes me think he knows exactly who he wants.
