So, correct me if I'm wrong, but you're saying that Bama's defense has gotten "worse" because their offense has gotten better and scored more?

More like, the SEC is playing Big 12 football now, and their fans haven't adjusted expectations accordingly yet.

Bama has a top 5 defense by efficiency metrics.

If you want Golding fired you either a.) Have insanely high expectations for Bama's  annual performance or b.) Are a moron that still doesn't understand how pace affects raw counting statistics.

This, the drop in defensive stats is directly correlated to a shift to a more aggressive offensive mindset under Kiffen and Sarkesian. Defense is on the field more, stats suffer.

@immamac On the status bar after 100 pages can you add a section that checks who is the current user and list the number of posts that user has on the thread? That way I can see if I have 1 or 2 posts on a thread. Top guys would see their name twice.

It could just be that he should have never been recruited at Texas and was one of the slowest LBs since Dusty Renfro.

Not sure about that. Dele was just never a fit for the style of football player these days unless you're in the Big Ten.

I remember on the recruiting board, at some point breaking the news that during practices right after he arrived that he was clearly the slowest non-lineman on the team. Had to have been on Shaggy. Can’t remember who, but there had to have been some howling from some of the regulars back then. The poor bastard would probably all-conference at Northwestern or Minnesota or something.

The only UT D's in the modern era that would rank that high are '01, '05, '09, and perhaps '08? I know Bama recruits well but funny to think about wanting to fire the DC after a year like that.

Forgive me for speaking up here, but you'll be hard pressed to find anyone here outside of maybe one or two nutjobs who would hold us up as a positive example for much of anything on the field in football. If we're speaking negatively about Bama's defense, it's certainly not because we think Texas is the model to follow.

If you are an Ohio guy, then a) sorry about that, but b) ND is only 4 hours away.

Plus you get to learn under a real head coach who can talk

Ayodele Adeoye is beginning his career at Rover but will assuredly move to Mac next year. The need is bigger behind Gary Johnson for this season, but even if Adeoye is ready mentally by August he probably doesn't have the athletic make-up for the position. Athletically he sounds very limited in coverage.

No shit. I didn’t think we were targeting him as much as some seemed to think around here. But then again, I got a head start on the weekend around noon today.

First post...Texas grad but I come from a Cal family and grew up in the Bay Area so I follow Cal and the Pac 12 closely.

As I was wading through this post, I saw a bunch of Cal mentions.  For those interested...

Peter Sirmon has a lot of Sark connections but he is besties with Wilcox at Cal and their families are super tight.  Wilcox pushed out Ted DeRuyter at DC so Sirmon could take over despite the excellent job TDR did.  Sirmon is an excellent LB coach but is seriously meh as a DC

Torre Becton is a fucking home run for Sark.  That dude is a badass and is a big part of the culture at Cal.  He takes no shit from the players and demands toughness, grit and accountability.  No prima donnas allowed... Cal is short on talent but every team they play hurts afterwards.  SC tried to poach him in '19 and he turned them down, not surprised he has been picked off, he is one of the best.

Saw some questions on who Tosh Lupoi got to Cal.  Basically, all the big names Cal got during his 4 years there ('08-11).  Keenan Allen would be the headliner but there were a bunch of others.  He also had Cal lined up for a monster class in '12.  Cal didn't/doesnt pay and Sark picked him off to go to UW for an extra $150k.  Story is, Tosh confirmed the deal in his car, walked into Shaq Thompson's house for an in home and before telling Jeff Tedford that he was leaving for UW, proceeded to trash Cal and poach Thompson to UW.  Shaq was considered a Cal lock before that and Cal was in line for a top 5 or 6 class nationally that year before Lupoi jumped.  It wouldve included Arik Armstead and 4 top 50 national players, 6 or 7 top 112. The class fell apart after that...they kept 2 of those dudes.

re: Sark... I hope the alcoholism was why he was so incredibly mediocre at UW and SC because he was really average.  Shit in game coach.  Maybe he has learned and/or maybe the booze was the cause but he was pretty underwhelming before.  And dont give him too much credit for turning UW into a 7 win team 2 years after they went 0fer... they have a ton of cash and always have had excellent facilities.  Willingham sucked but they had some decent players...

Anyways, just my 2 cents

Don’t know a lot about Cal’s teams the last few years but Ashtyn Davis is/was a gifted athlete that isn’t afraid to throw his body around.

There is so much baggage with Tosh Lupoi that even if he was worth consideration somewhere as a HC, he couldn’t pass a rudimentary background check. This is either just stupidly bad information being fed to Roach or just an idiotic expectation from Lupoi.

1) I don’t think you guys are giving proper credit to the premise that Sarkisian might simply be waiting until after the NCG to interview a few guys with Muschamp falling through.

2) Why is this “Golding is being fired at Bama” concept taking off here? It doesn’t seem grounded and it appears to have just sprung up once people started looking at who Sarkisian might steal from Bama’s staff.

Feels like Roach is nearing EJ Holland (RIP) levels of just regurgitating without any critique what he hears from handlers or legit agents.
