Question for the knowledgeable Surlies:  if Tennessee negotiates a buyout of Pruitt, seemingly freeing him up to coach elsewhere, how long would the hiring institution need to wait before learning if the NCAA is going to slap a show cause on him?

If Tennessee pays a buyout is means their internal investigation couldn't find any grounds for firing with cause. If their internal investigation with such high incentives (a 12 mil buyout) couldn't find anything it is highly unlikely the NCAA would either.

Out of curiosity I looked up the DC at Tennessee and it's Derrick Ansley, wouldn't fit well as he is a DB corch. No clue if he is worth a shit either.

The knock on Golding, Lanning and Tosh is that aren't good enough as their boss is the real defensive mind.  Same here, Pruitt is the guy.

Maybe Texas gave him some time off before needing him in Austin? Since he was rumored to be wavering on taking a year off?

Just throwing shit at the wall, here.

I do, there is just no evidence to this point that it will happen mainly because it hasn't happened. Expecting it to happen is completely different from actuality.

Regarding harbaugh future, is there any chance his extension led to a lower buyout?

Yes, because they reduced his salary from around 8 mil to around 5. Maths.

At this point it seems obvious that they want to make official announcements all at once and DC is the hold up. Unfortunate - I figured we'd be done by now. Muschamp must have really fucked the plan.

If we’re going to speculate, sure. Throw a fat check at him and see what’s what. Go up to $3M and see what happens.

Then, if need be, swing back by Odom and make an offer. The statement coming out that he would have taken the job had he been offered, maybe it isn’t bullshit. Still not an Odom fan, but we’ll see.

Find best DC against the spread, make it rain and force them to say no.

Whatever it is, I’m going to guess that coach knows what he is doing and not going to settle for some bullshit. He’s done his work so far, and I’ll let him keep the hammer down until proven otherwise.

Could be years. It’ll be hanging over us the entire time Pruitt is here. Having said that, he is a damn good DC and recruiter, so UT will have to weigh those factors. I doubt compliance would sign off but who knows.

What happens if we hire him and he's here for three years and then the NCAA drops the hammer on him?  Do we have liability in that case, or do we just have to fire him?

Saturday update on Texas coaching staff searches

ChipBrown

Just a quick update to say we’re hearing Tosh Lupoi is still in the mix - in some capacity - as a candidate to join Steve Sarkisian’s staff at Texas.

We’ve reported Lupoi has been offered the defensive line coaching position with the Dallas Cowboys by Dan Quinn. Lupoi coached the defensive line under Quinn last season with the Atlanta Falcons. Lupoi, who coached under Sarkisian at Washington (before going to Alabama and then to the NFL) would like at least a co-defensive coordinator title if he would return to college football, a source told Horns247.

We've reported Mississippi State defensive coordinator Zach Arnett is someone Sarkisian was intrigued by after Sarkisian faced Arnett's defense in a 41-0 victory by the Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa on Halloween, sources told Horns247.

Dennis Dodd of CBSSports.com reported Friday Arkansas' Barry Odom was still a defensive coordinator candidate under consideration by Sarkisian. We'd heard that Odom and Sarkisian talked a couple weeks ago and that if Odom was going to take another job, he'd like to bring at least one coach with him, a source close to the situation told Horns247.

According to our sources, Sarkisian has already hired Bo Davis as a defensive line coach, former Longhorn Blake Gideon as a position coach and Terry Joseph, a longtime secondary coach (most recently at Notre Dame), as a position coach.

Texas defensive line coach Oscar Giles and Chris Ash, who served as UT's defensive coordinator last season, have been waiting to see how Sarkisian wants to fill out his staff, although we've heard Ash may have been let go by Sarkisian, freeing Ash up to join Urban Meyer's staff as a position coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

We've heard Sarkisian talked to Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning about joining the Texas staff on Friday, but a source close to the situation said Lanning plans to stay at Georgia, where the Bulldogs are expected to be loaded on defense next season.

Sources told Horns247 Saturday it's unclear if Alabama defensive coordinator Pete Golding is still under consideration by Sarkisian to join the Texas staff. We've reported Alabama coach Nick Saban, who helped recommend Sarkisian for the Texas job, has objected to Sarkisian attempting to hire Golding.

Stay tuned.

If Tosh is now willing to take at least a Co-DC title, then make it happen.  But what would he coach?  DL, LB?  Pretty sure we still need a LB and CB Coach.
