I think the only thing that can be questioned is that we're going to have a coach over a position that isn't their primary area of expertise. Neither Gideon or Joseph are known as elite CB coaches, as both are historically over Safeties. Coach K doesn't coach ILBs. So regardless of whether that last position ends up being CBs or ILBs, there will be a hole. I know Gideon is an up-and-comer, and will be invaluable in cultivating relationships with TXHFB coaches, but he seems redundant at this point. Whatever, I'm fucking ecstatic with this hire.

Shoutout to @OnAComputer. We gave y’all a lot of shit at the start of this coaching search, but y’all have been fucking nails. TFB’s pretty clearly the best 995er site covering Texas right now. IT’s still good, but Nahlin’s an insufferable prick way too often.

Update: The CTJ/Eltife jet touched down in Sandpoint yesterday at 12:15 p.m. PST.

This jet originating in Seattle landed in Sandpoint at 12:09 p.m. PST yesterday (and is the only fight from Seattle to Sandpoint for at least the last two weeks - as long as FlightAware records go back):

What are the odds Gideon is not one of the 10 on-field assistants? That feels like the only way to not have a gap in the staff (but unlikely). Did notice this from the FootballScoop article announcing Coach K which suggests Gideon is CB coach:

If he takes the job, Kwiatkowski will join a Texas defensive staff that is already formed to a large extent. Bo Davis is expected to be the ‘Horns’ defensive line coach, Blake Gideon the safeties coach and Terry Joseph the cornerbacks coach and pass game coordinator.

Never understood how Herman made the same damn mistake as Strong with his initial staff.  You have an open checkbook.  Put a GD all star staff together, not G5 comfort hires.  Led to both their downfalls here.

Major, major props to TFB.  Completely dominated the entire offseason.

Also, what a hire. Obviously too early to tell if Sark will be a success, but he's certainly acing his first test.

Why do we need 2 LB coaches when we are only gonna have 2 of them on the field most of the time?

Coach K- DC/LB

Bo Davis-DL

Retain Giles at his current salary to help with the DL  as an analyst or whatever the fuck he would like to be called

Joseph-Safeties

Raymond-CB/AHC

Gideon-ST/asst. DB coach

I'm still not convinced Charlie had the open check book mensa had - Patterson and all.  Charlie was a fuck up to be sure, but a fuck up with hands tied ensured his downfall.  Mensa was a whole different class of stupidity.

At least Charlie didn't bring the entire UL staff.  Not saying Charlie wasn't shittier.

Charlie could've hired Lincoln Riley for less than Shawn Watson.  Total potato fuck up.

Gideon will 100% be one of the ten assistants, and any discussion about him being an analyst should be negged

Joseph, for better or for worse, has coached CBs in the past, and will likely do so this next season, and a LB coach will likely be the last hire

So if you believe reports, Sark thinks he has Muschamp in the bag when he takes the job but something changes and Muschamp decides to take the year off.

Instead of panic hiring some buddy he's comfortable with he calmly kicks the shit out of OSU in the national championship game, flies to Austin the next day, and commences a nation wide DC hunt in complete silence. Then out of nowhere he swipes a top-5 guy who was on nobody's radar and seemingly a Pacific NW lifer to be his DC while the fan base wrings their hands worrying that the search is going nowhere and the hire will be "Watson-level".

FUCK YES.

Expand

Yep. I never believed the Muschamp bs. And I'm glad we got PK instead.

Regardless of scheme most staffs are structured:

Interior DL (2 DT / 3 DL) - Bo Davis

Interior LBs (Will-Mike or Rover-Mac) - ????

Edge Defenders (DEs / OLBs) - PK

Safeties - Gideon

CBs - Joseph

----

PK runs a 2-4-5

well the ends are technically OLBs in the 2-4-5. so I guess you can call whoever's coaching OLBs the "DE" coach for purposes of comparison

Not that I’m seriously entertaining the idea of Gideon coaching something other than dbs and special teams, but do we really know which positions he can coach effectively?  With his dad being a hs head coach and his supposed knowledge of the game maybe he already has the ability to coach several position groups.

Coach K runs a 2-4-5, not 4-2-5. Two hybrid OLBs, two ILBs. The reason ILB/OLB difference matters is that his scheme requires the OLBs to handle various responsibilities (similar to how Ossai did in his Jack role - actually there is a Jack in K's system too), while ILBs are also expected to manage a myriad of responsibilities including sealing the edge/snuffing runs in scenarios where the OLB's are covering the flats (on top of traditional responsibilities). Basically you need your linebackers to be pretty coached up.

This video @LTtxfan posted details it pretty well:
