Sark after dark COACHING STAFF thread

My CFB viewing has declined rapidly as years of Texas football mediocrity has set in. Really only tuning in to watch Texas games. Because I hate myself. I think the the Bama game yesterday was the first one I watched this year. And on top of that I was not really paying attention to the system and style offense that Bama was running.
With that said, this was just a long winded question, what kind of offense does Sark run. Thanks, i'll hang up and listen.

He calls the touchdown play a lot.

Of current staff only ones worth retaining.

Drayton

did miss on some big fish but Bijan.  Don’t think you can blame him on lack of touches for Bijan,  nobody gives true freshman bulk of reps right away.

Was bordeline erotic seeing Thompson, Bijan, and Whittington in the back field during Alamodome.  If you can’t whoop ass with that next year I mean shit.  Sure Sark noticed that as well.

Ash, Hutzler, Giles (know he sucks as a recruiter but he does seem to do alright with what he has)

omenihu, Poona, Ossai, Coburn, Collins, ojomo, even sweat and TW have flashed.

Mot likely for anyone to be retained right?  I mean what are the stats for a retained assistant coach?

CDC seems to understand that this will be about the staff just as much as about Sark. So at least we seem to be on the right track.

He seems SO EXCITED about the staff. I’m guessing Sark def has people in mind and CDC loved the names he heard

Haven't found an article that does a good job of breaking down his philosophy yet - but I did like this quote, and I expect Bijan will as well:

“Well I think it starts in running the football,” Sarkisian said Saturday when asked about his offensive philosophy. “In my opinion, every year I’ve called plays in college football I’ve always had a 1,000-yard rusher.”

Maybe I was hearing what I wanted but it sounded like we already had a couple of guys committed. Just waiting to make it official.

There’s no quicker way to show your ass as a football fan than to call his tenure at UW a “failure.”

In five seasons with the Huskies, Sarkisian went 34-29. Tom Herman's record at UT was 32-18. Sarkisian was 1-2 in bowl games. He went to the Holiday, Alamo, and Las Vegas Bowls. Scores were 19W-7Neb, 67Bay-56W, and 28BoiSt-26W. Herman was 4-0 in bowl games.

UW when Sarkisian took over might as well have been Kansas.....  Herman wouldn't have had a winning record there.

My point stands. Using a flat W-L record to critique his time there is absurd.

Ok, this rustles my jimmies...no fucking way is Mike Fucking Stoops leading any AD to say that

Might lead an AD who is given a blank check and hires Sark cause to say that. It’s entirely possible, and I believe likely, our AD is a brain dead moron.

Look, Mike Stoops would be a position coach and therefore not as disastrous as Watson or Beck, but if Sark is even thinking about bringing him in he's a couple more missteps away from being DOA.

Even as a position coach I think that might be a fireable offense. As a coordinator it voids the morals clause of his contract that I’d make him sign that says don’t do anything unconscionably stupid

Pick some other criteria if wins and losses don't matter. Lupoi got in trouble there. He got bad raps for drinking on the job. Administration wasn't a big fan. Did he show improvement over his year's there?

After watching Notre Dame look like a peewee team against Bama, I'm fully convince the schools who don't cheat are never going to win again. Notre Dame, even Texas, is not going to be able to regularly compete against $EC schools who perfected cheating from paying players, to pretend school, to steroids galore. If Texas is serious about competing it's going to have to play the game. Here's to hoping that the Sark hire and the assist coaches names are an indication that Texas is finally serious about playing the game on equal footing.

Let's leave the cheating to the aggy.

Hasn't everyone read this?  From Footballscoop.com. There is no fucking mention of Mike Stoops, but there is of Blake Gideon

As Texas officials worked behind the scenes to bring an end to the Tom Herman era atop the Longhorns football program and find Herman’s replacement as the future of the program, a key point for Texas leaders – from athletics director Chris Del Conte on down – was a coach’s vision for the program.

The Horns’ leaders received voluminous, detailed plans from candidates that addressed their vision for the future of Texas football, detailed recruiting plans, program tenets – and, perhaps chief amongst all items, a projected staff.

It’s in that area in which Steve Sarkisian separated himself, along with Sarkisian’s previous experience as a head coach and his career renaissance at Alabama as offensive coordinator of the Tide’s record-setting attack.

In terms of coordinators, Kyle Flood is a Sarkisian colleague now at Alabama, someone who people close to Sarkisian tell FootballScoop that Sark “likes him a lot.” Flood could be the Horns’ offensive coordinator and a key linchpin on Sarkisian’s staff.

Sarkisian also remained heavily involved in play-calling even as a head coach at both Washington and USC, so that’s a key dynamic and one that we’re told Flood well understands with Sarkisian.

Blake Gideon, a former Horns player who started 52 career games in Austin, has carved a niche as a top special teams coach and rising young assistant. Gideon served as special teams coordinator for Lane Kiffin’s inaugural Ole Miss squad, which capped its season Saturday with a win against Indiana in the Outback Bowl.

×Sources said there’s mutual interest between Gideon and Sarkisian to join together at Texas.

At the defensive coordinator spot, Sarkisian can help Texas with a number of potential high-profile targets in a year in which defensive coordinators are very much in demand. Sources told FootballScoop that former Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp, fired in November as South Carolina’s head coach, was expected to be in the mix for Sarkisian’s top defensive spot.

Kevin Steele, most recently Auburn’s interim head coach and defensive coordinator, also has emerged with multiple options that could include Texas.

Marcus Freeman, the wunderkind Cincinnati defensive coordinator, has elicited interest from Auburn’s new coach Bryan Harsin, as well as LSU, Michigan and Notre Dame. “Freeman would be an option,” said a source.

Zach Arnett, defensive coordinator at Mississippi State, has surged in national profile and did notable work in his first season with the Bulldogs; he’s considered a name to watch at Texas and with other openings.

Additionally, multiple sources told FootballScoop that a reunion of Sarkisian with defensive line specialist and recruiting guru Tosh Lupoi, who’s spent the past few seasons in the NFL, also has been discussed.

One final coach to keep an eye on is former UT assistant Chris Rumph. Rumph coached outside linebackers for the Houston Texans this season, but a return to Austin could be in his future.

We expect a number of these moves to become clear in the coming days.

It was discussed on another thread that the interview process included questions of who is coming with you, so I’m sure they have most of the staff teed up already.

I mean, he inherited an 0-12 team and left at 9-4. Using your metrics of W-L, I’d say he did a hell of a job. Not using your metrics, a look at Washington’s draft history and recruiting rankings before and after he arrived offer similar stories of success.

And to be clear, I’m not calling him Nick Saban 2.0. But he did a great job at UW and calling it a failure shows a deep lack of understanding at what that program looked like before he arrived.

Re: The FootballScoop write-up: I guess I’d really need to know if Sark plans on being the actual “majority”/sole play-caller before having a huge opinion on Kyle Flood as the OC. Underwhelmed might be an understatement on my feelings toward Flood being the actual play-caller.
Seems like a spit-balling article, though, tbh.

So an average of 4 more wins per year than his predecessor.  I'll take it.

So from piecing shit together so far
QB- Milwee (don’t know shit about him but named unanimously by the 995ers)
RB- Drayton (likely to be retained, good)
WR- Keary Colbert (had good receiver classes and talent at USC. Young dude should be a good recruiter)
TE- Jeff Banks (lateral move from Bama can’t be a bad thing)
OL/OC- Kyle Flood (cannot understate how big this would be...holy fuck)
DC/Safeties- Coach Boom or Ash (I think Boom is happening and will be an absolute home run)
DT-Bo Davis (don’t know a lot about him but DL coach in the NFL with college experience)
DE- Tosh Lupoi(bro...the game will be played and recruiting would never be better)
LB- Hutzler (has been fantastic this year working with the LBs and recruiting)
CB- Corey Raymond (if this happens...holy fuck....)

ok so, I’m fully chugging kool aid with this staff...probably unrealistic but god damn...
