This part made me LOL. For the first 2 or 3 years this board hated that sark was the OC. He couldn’t handle doing both jobs, he was in over his head, sarklostagain needed to focus on being HC. I’m not saying you were one of those assholes but there were a lot of those assholes on here.

There were many here against Sark for so many reasons.

There were also many favorable data points that were overwhelmingly positive, and a lot of supposedly smart people overlooked those facts and memorialized their idiocy for eternity.

Re: VY being the greatest ever

the thing about that is the circumstance which he delivered. It's not something that's really fair to other QBs, because they don't get to pick their challenger, but VY had an all-time great foe to conquer, which is exactly why his heroics are so memorable. It's not just that VY was amazing at what he did, he did it against the "greatest of all time" USC. Arch and Quinn don't have a foe like that to vanquish, because USC's reputation wasn't built in a single year. It was a multi-year dynasty that was looking like the best ever. The closest you could get would be Quinn beating Saban in Tuscaloosa, but that wasn't for all the marbles. Georgia today doesn't have the mystique that 2005 USC had. There's simply no all-time villains for our current QBs to slay. Even if quinn or arch winds up winning the title and heisman, it still can't compare to what VY did because it felt like VY single-handedly dismantled a dynasty. USC has never been the same since that night.

No one will have the stage set up like VY had.

USC was the 2 time defending National Champions w/ 2 Heisman Trophy winners, and USC and Texas were ranked 1 and 2 in every poll, all year long. No question who the best 2 teams were. Texas v. Hollywood. The Rose Bowl.

Yes, they were. On a 34 game winning streak.

No, they weren't.  In the BCS era, there was only one recognized national champion in NCAA football, and it was the BCS national champion.  Texas won the 2005 BCS national championship, USC won the 2004 BCS national championship and LSU won the 2003 BCS national championship.  The confusion stems from the fact that the BCS fucked up royally in 2003 when they put ou in the BCS championship game against LSU after getting completely fuck stomped in the Big XII championship game.  That BCS championship game should have been between LSU and USC, but it wasn't, and LSU won.  USC got their revenge against ou the following year.

Says who? Only the coaches’ poll was obligated to choose the BCS winner.

The AP poll was irrelevant in naming the national champions.  As stated in my previous reply, the only official national champion for football during the BCS era was the BCS champion, and USC did not win BCS championship two years in a row.  They were no more national champions in 2003 than Central Florida was national champions back in 2017, or whenever it was that they went undefeated.

Says who? Your previous reply also lacked support. Who says the AP poll doesn’t count? Be specific.

There was no “official” National champion and only the coaches’ poll was obligated to vote for the BCS winner.

You’re just making up stuff.

2003 was a split national championship.  The AP national championship was just as valid as the Coaches Poll, because there was nothing official about the Coaches Poll.

One could argue that USC had 1.5 championships, I guess, but to argue that they only had 1 is to really not understand the state of college football at that time.

You want him to tell the players the game was called equally or you actually believe the game was called equally?

i need to rewatch the game so i can pay attention to line play, but in real time, based on the replays, it looked to me like all the flags on us were by the book

i can't answer your question without more data

No doubt Sark was frustrated yesterday.  But I did like his perspective about facing some adversity and how that was good for this team.

I wasn’t a math major, but does new math say that 13 is less than 13?

fuck, I meant to quote the post above that.  I guess I wasn’t a social media major either.

This is simply not true. When did you start watching college football?

If you're using chrome (at least on Win 10/11), the "Just Read" extension not only cleans up horrible layouts and colors, but also ignores most paywalls. Worth a try.

Spoiler

After a weight-lifting session Friday, Steve Sarkisian is giving his Texas football team the weekend off to decompress from the rigors of the first five games of the season.
But he did add one pseudo assignment:
Watch some football during the bye week.

The message is simple. Just because you’re not in a game Saturday doesn't mean the game shouldn’t be in you.

Sarkisian said that over the last couple of seasons, he has had a locker room of passionate college football players who are fans as well.
“I think they like watching football,” he said during Monday's media availability. "Maybe they did before, I don't know, but I sure feel like now more than ever, we're watching a lot of football. They're commenting to me about what's going on in games.”

For Sarkisian, it’s a chance to catch up on some administrative duties and to get some early game-planning in on the Oct. 12 showdown with Oklahoma, but any one who knows him can guarantee his eyes will be glued to a television set from Thursday through Sunday.
He can’t get enough of the sport.

It’s why I could not resist sharing some news with him Saturday night in the interview room following the 35-13 win over Mississippi State in Texas’ SEC debut.

For the people in the media who cover the Longhorns, we all know of Sarkisian’s love of college football. His passion for the game is nearly as strong as his love for coaching the young people who play for him.

Now, while he was busy addressing questions following the win over Mississippi State, I was multitasking; listening to his answers but my eyes fixed on my laptop where Alabama and Georgia were playing in the most anticipated game of the early season.
After Sarkisian finished up and headed toward the exit, I called out to him.
“Hey Steve, check this out,” I said, turning my MacBook around so he could see the livestream.
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, left, said he rushed home Saturday night to watch Alabamas' 41-34 win over over Georgia, coached by Kirby Smart, right. The Statesman

He expression said everything as he zoomed in on the score.
Alabama was up 21-0 in the first quarter.
“Oh wow,” he said with genuine surprise.
I asked him Monday if he was able to catch the rest of the game. I already knew the answer but needed him to say it.
“I watched the remainder of the first half on TV in my office and then I hurried up and got my car and I raced home to watch the second half of that game,” he said.

He added he wanted to see the finish because knew Georgia wouldn't roll over. After trailing 28-0, the Bulldogs mounted a furious rally to take a 34-33 lead in the final two minutes, but the Tide pulled it out 41-34 in one of the wildest finishes in SEC history. It provided plenty of entertainment but also gave Sarkisian a teaching point for his team, which struggled at times before pulling away against the Bulldogs.
"I think it puts things into perspective for us,” he said. "That’s why I said what I said Saturday, like, we needed some adversity, because adversity is going to come and we're going to be in some fights.”

This season is the time since 1981 that the Horns will have a bye week before the Oklahoma game. At 5-0 with starting quarterback Quinn Ewers on the mend, it’s appreciated, especially with the specter of an angry Georgia team coming to town the week after Red River.
“I would say that it’s coming at a really good time because we’ve been playing a good amount of ball but there’s a lot we have to clean up,” linebacker David Gbenda said.
The Horns can take some inventory after a successful completion to what Sarkisian calls Phase 1 of the season. Phase 2 finishes with these next three games. The Horns should emerge from the bye week rested, confident and still hungry to prove themselves against possibly the two toughest remaining opponents on the regular season schedule.

They're off this weekend but that football faucet will still be running.

Let’s quickly switch gears to cover up all that stanky bullshit:

what do you think Sark’s favorite type of breakfast food is?

He’s in Texas now. Maybe huevos rancheros y barbacoa.
