Seriously?

It might be the first time Sark mentioned it but I doubt it is the first time he has made an audible that worked.

I am sure he made some that were busts too.

So what?

Yes, seriously.  As a fan who likes tidbits of information, I am curious how often this occurs.

I am reasonably certain as to why this was brought up now.  I do not believe it is an uncommon occurrence.

Probably a primary reason sark continues to go with Ewers over Manning.

And/or a defense of why he isn't playing Arch more. 6/half dozen

Sark is not oblivious to the media and to a far lesser degree fans asking WTF, why so little use of a very capable backup QB. Particularly given earlier injuries and lack of performance by the starter. (Not against Clemson specifically, but in the broader view)

It's a small, subtle but clear defense of his decision making and support of Ewers. Agree/disagree with the choice, the reason is clear.

Perhaps.  The most logical is a former QB is sticking with his veteran QB.  The big goal is still ahead of him and the team.

Back in the day, there was quite a bit of talk about Applewhite changing plays.  Then I also heard there was “some check with me.”  We used to run “check with me,”  in high school and it really had nothing to do with me calling/changing the play.  So I’m always a bit skeptical. In no way do I think this is the case here.

I do think it’s an element of Sark saying “here, look what he can do.”

We are also at the time of year where coaches are going to start going out of their way to gas up their NFL prospects about anything and everything. Stories will come out about how their star QB saved stray puppies and top DB helped an old lady cross the road.

Yeah, Quinn spending time with poor starving children and Helms helping old ladies across the street in downtown.

I'm, of course, being sarcastic and there are good things a lot of players actually do for the community. You're accurate that potential draft picks are going to be propped up with any positives in that regard. Probably see some it before the games for all teams.

I keep seeing this posted all over the forum.  Were those the only two audibles he has made this year or in  this game?

Just feel like I haven’t heard Sark mention audibles all year.

Obviously not his only two audibles, but the fact that they resulted in 2 touchdowns in the same game might make them a little more significant than all the ones that were just another play in the middle of a drive.

Well, if they were the first 2 audible all season that resulted in a TD.. that's a problem.

He's pumping Quinn. That's okay, he's the head coach, he's supposed to pump his QB.

You should read slower. Nobody said they were the first 2 to result in touchdowns.

Exactly.  You should comprehend better. They very likely weren't thr first. Had they been it would have been an issue. Since they very likely weren't there had to be a reason Sark pointed these two out.

That reason, is... wait for it.

Pumping up his QB for the draft and in light of recent media questions on Ewers abilities.

This really isn't that difficult.

What the analytics folks fail to understand[/b]is late in the second quarter when you can go up 3 scores you change the game. Now a single score doesn’t get it within 1, and assuming 4-5 possessions in the second half, and 1 more in the first half, your opponent has to hold you to no scores the rest of the way out and has to score 50% of the time. That alone is worth it because how you can force a team out of their game plan. if you miss the 4th and they score now it’s a 1 score game at half, that’s a drastic turnaround.  Going up 3 scores at half time is a big fucking deal. I don’t care if it’s 4th and 2. You take the points.
now if 3 points doesn’t do that then yeah, go for it.
and I just haven’t seen any analytics take into account game situation just likelihood of success on a particular down and distance.

I’m not arguing with you….just asking…..isn’t all of that “analytics?”

Not gonna read 52 pages of what I'm sure is riveting discussion, but it hit me in the second half that we were currently playing without our preseason starting RB1, WR1, RT, C, and S... and we were still winning a playoff game by multiple scores and still have realistic national title aspirations.

I'm sure there's plenty to discuss regarding actual in-game performance, but what Sark has accomplished from a program building perspective is nothing short of astonishing.

Except it’s actually not astonishing. Astonishing would be doing this somewhere like Tulsa or Tulane.

What’s also astonishing is how badly we hired guys like Strong and Herman that were unable to build a winner with the level of resources available at Texas. I am not shitting on Sark, btw. He’s done very well and has gotten way more right than wrong. He’s also benefited from a sea change in the talent acquisition process (i.e., NIL + Transfer Portal) that has tilted the scales heavily in his favor. To his credit, he’s taken advantage of those changes far better than others (eg., Dabo).

I have come to like Sark and I’m glad we have him. That said, Texas should be a very easy place to win at, even if others have inexplicably failed to do so.

It's explicable.  Hiring recycled G5 level assistants was the main culprit.  The root cause of that being that they (Strong and Herman) were either too dumb, too stubborn, or too inexperienced to realize you have to upgrade from the staff that got you the job when you move up a tier.

And not being completely fucking terrible at the job.

100% great post and exactly what is in my head but am not able to transfer to my fingers. It is all about possessions. Going up a whole extra possession is huge when you are at that point in the game. It just changes stuff on the field, especially when you have our defense.

I dunno, nothing is as “easy” as it seems, every blue blood program has gone through extended lulls.

Yeah, but Michael Vick took in stray puppies. Can't really go by that.
