It’s about getting to that second contract in the NFL. Doesn’t really matter where he is drafted. Not being a first round pick is advantageous for RB’s IMO since they are generally considered washed by 27ish.

Brooks isn't sniffing a first round grade, but what's advantageous about not being a first round pick? Bijan's contract is worth $22mm. Achane's is worth $5.5mm. And that's to say nothing of time value of money or the fact that RB second contracts that span longer than a cup of coffee are few and far between in the current landscape

TBF most RBs don't even make it to a second contract, but the league minimum is also more than most will get in NIL sticking around for another season. We'll see whether he likes the draft feedback he gets in December. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Brooks won't test off the charts at a pro day and is too young for a Senior Bowl invite, so unless he goes for like 1800 yds and wins the Doak, I just don't see him leaving for the NFL as a RS-So.

I would never bet against a RB leaving early. If he gets a decent draft grade, he should leave. That’s why Choice picks bringing in top RBs. I thought Gerry said there is talk that the 2025 RB that Texas leads for may reclassify.

He won't. Pre-draft grades for early entrants are given on a first, second, or the rest basis. Brooks isn't going to get a first or second-round grade.

That being said, he could definitely still leave.

I think we are on the same page. He will never sniff a 1st round grade even if he used all of his eligibility. Every round after the first is a shorter contract with less control for the team. If he can negotiate the second contract before 25 he would be doing extremely well. The NFL pension should be the goal anyways.

Not true. Every rookie contract is 4 years and 1st round picks have a 5th year option. His only chance of getting a second contract close to 25 is leaving after this year.

If he maintains his most recent three-game average for the rest of the season, he'd be around 1,750.

Regardless, it does seem as if Sark will have a 1,000-yard rusher this year.

Roschon Johnson went Round 4.
Brooks probably pencils in Rounds 5-7.
I think JB could play himself into a early 3rd round if he maintains his current production. Even though Baxter got the first "start", Brooks has been our true featured back each game. Only time Rojo got that was the last 2 games of '21 when Bijan injured his arm.

After 2022 Texas brought in:

P Ryan Sanborn

DT Trill Carter

WR Adonai Mitchell

DB Gavin Holmes

S Jalen Catalon

Makes sense. At the very least some DL and safety help is going to be needed. They may want to go get another rotation LB and/or CB. On offense, TE sticks out as a position of need assuming Sanders leaves and they may want to go get an experienced WR to head up a very talented but young room. May want another RB depending on what happens with that room. Punter will be open and if there's an upgrade at kicker that's tempting.

In the current NFL a, Brooks will never be a 3rd rounder much less an early 3rd rounder.  He can have an NFL career but he's never going to be a combine/pro day warrior.

Yeah, we may need to add the word sometimes to the thread title.

It don't make a shit. If the Aggies want to pay those kids thousands of dollars to go watch them get stomped by Bama, those kids should be encouraged to part those fools from their money. Texas' sales pitch is way, way too strong to be overcome by a bag and a UOV. The can pound their chests about it, but at the end of the day those kids are either (1) going to see through A&M's bullshit and make the right decision, or (2) can't see through A&M's bullshit and aren't a good fit here anyway.

That's no reason to get complacent or act like A&M isn't a threat, but let's not start pissing our pants about Kobe Black.

A&M going all in on this weekend isn't a bad strategy.  If they get curbstomped they probably know the wheels fall off this season anyways.   An upset shifts momentum and pays dividends like it did 2 years ago.  Big weekend for all 4 teams involved from both a season and narrative perspective.

Close, but inaccurate.

ACCURATE:
When a Missouri high school player (1) signs financial assistance paperwork with an instate college, (2) then that player can start collecting NIL for whatever they can pull money in from.

(3) This is not “publicly committing to a school.”

(4) Signing the papers and accepting NIL does not tie them to the in-state school.

(5) In theory Wingo could sign papers with Mizzou and then go to UT in January.

yeah, financial assistance paperwork doesn't mean shit. NLI is what matters there.

Brooks is most definitely leaving, but RB is not a need with what is returning in the room. That could change if one of Blue, Red, or Wisner leave.

WR and TE are the biggest offensive needs, and IDL is the biggest defensive need.

If Auburn continues to shank the 40-45 rangers, and Stone isn't given a shot, then a K will be needed.

RB room absolutely needs some help in the portal if Brooks leaves

Blue is going to be a contender to be in the portal at every single opportunity he has. Wisner is ???. Red may not even be in the RB room this time next year (back to WR?)

Can't imagine that you keep Blue, Red, Wisner, Baxter all next year without one of them transferring.

so that leaves you with Baxter (likely starter) and true freshmen who are not signed (Clark reportedly has shut it down, GIbson has not and Texas is in on the #1 RB in the 25 class who is likely to reclassify, right?)

would be *SHOCKED* if Texas rolled into next season without any updates to the RB room.

40% of the way through the season he is on track for 1432 yards over 12 games or 1552 over 13.

Bijan got about 54% of the carries the team had last year and had ~1600 yards

Brooks is at 44% so far for Texas. If Texas has 470 carries again that puts him at 1452 yards at his current YPC and %. if he gets up to 50%, Texas has 470 carries again at his YPC that is 1621 yards.

If he has 1600+ yards, like 15 TDs, Texas wins the B12, Texas goes to the CFP, he wins the Doak and gets Heisman votes I can absolutely see him getting a decent NFL grade and making the jump.

all that said, love to see him come back. bringing back the OL + Brooks + Baxter would make a first year starting QB's life much much much easier.

If Brooks stays, the only one we need to keep is Baxter. I don't think Brooks will stay, though. His roommate will be going to the NFL. There is always the injury concern...

Are the RBs early enrollees?
