The fuck kind of places do you patronize?

Was minding my own business having lunch today at Hughie’s and the electro-shock therapy world record holder came in and got a full plyometric leg workout in right next to me.

Post a follow-up melanoma removal surgery, doctor wants to extend antibiotic use from 1 week to 2 weeks. Insurance denies the pharmacy request to fill a 2nd time as they just recently filled... have to wait 10 days before they will approve again.  Pharmacists says he has coupon and can pay cash if I want.

Don't know what I'm more surly about:

1) insurance denying an antibiotic prescription (why on earth would you think this was a good idea for you as a medical insurance company)

2) paying cash it was $3....  ("with" insurance it was $10 for me)

3) so insurance was actually denying a <$3 antibiotic prescription... and one they actually profit on??? just why??

Just did a trip to Scotland. Driving left hand stick was a trip.  Driving left hand stick, in the rain, on country roads barely wide enough for two cars was ass puckering.

I have traveled a lot in my career.  I can and have driven in other countries on 5 continents, but if there is any alternative, I’ll take it. If at all possible, I avoid driving in other countries, particularly left hand road countries. The risks are just too high of making some small mistake and having big consequences.

Every country, every state, every city, has its idiotic driving. The difference in driving in your home area is that you’re aware of and can anticipate most of the unwritten craziness and goofy traffic behavior. When you’re in another country, you don’t have that comfort and it’s really easy to just overlook something. Most of the time that’s not a big deal, but it only takes one slip to have a big problem.

agreed.

My intention was to utilize Scotrail.  However it is currently embroiled in a labor dispute so that wasn't a practical option.

I could not get used to coming around a blind corner and seeing a couple cars coming at me in the right lane.

Last time I drove on the left side of the road it was $2/day to upgrade to an automatic.  This was pre-covid rental car madness, so probably more than that now, but it felt like the prudent choice for the sake of my wife’s (and therefore, my) sanity.

The reservation system only offered manual.  When I arrived they asked if I would like to upgrade to automatic.  For the very reasonable price of an additional 98 pounds per day.  More than doubling the daily rate.  I declined.

Mine went from$10 to $12.  Or $12 to $14.  Something like that.  The vehicle sat in the hotel parking lot for the duration of the trip because the wife was so terrified During the 45 minutes it took us to get from the airport to the hotel that she refused to get in the car again.  I think her heart rate went up 25% every time I tried to use my blinker and  turned on the wipers instead.  Yay Uber!

Fire ants make me surly. Pics below are a small sampling of the approx 50 bites I got while replacing sprinkler heads in my yard  9D20DE85-86BE-40F2-967D-079B661EFFCA.thumb.jpeg.841a3f4b92a2198075924447bb403a83.jpegBAB71F0D-AB1E-49A6-9C2A-58BD16FC0FDD.thumb.jpeg.15741bb7a475eb44f3228f79a6ceaacf.jpeg

https://www.texasmonthly.com/travel/fire-ants-from-hell/

That article was from 1988, about 6 years after I first learned about fire ants. 34 years later, here we are.

This week the fire ant bites are much better.
However, this week it is poison oak that makes me surly. This weekend, when I continued to replace sprinkler heads and repair sprinkler lines in my yard (one week after the fire ants above), I did not see the poison oak until the rash started a day later. It’s only gotten worse in the last 3 days. On steroid cream now.
Both hands and wrists look like this. And feel like they’re on fire.

If you are a museum or attraction that has guided tours, don't make people with severe speech impediments be the speaking tour guide. I didn't pay money to come not understand 75% of the shit someone is trying to teach me. I'm all for being inclusive but let them do something else. It would be like making an old person with bad knees a trekking guide.

Never thought about driving stick shift on the left. Is the orientation of the gears the same? Is the clutch to the right of the gas pedal just to make it exponentially more difficult and ensure a fiery death?

In the car I rented, a Nissan, the pedal and gear orientation are the same as US.  So that makes the gear orientation  backwards.  1st gear is further away from the driver.

I saw a fat bitch impatiently waiting to jaywalk by the hospital, seemingly miffed that nobody was stopping to let her cross. Dumb bitch was literally less than 60 feet away from a permanent pedestrian crossing with full time flashing lights that all the cars were about to have to stop for anyway.

Pedestrians that wear dark clothing near or after dark-especially in poorly lit areas.  They have a death wish.

In the Clear Lake area of Houston, Egret Bay/FM 270 is 4-lane, plus center lane road that is completely unlit.  A lot of the local day laborers ride their bikes back and forth on that road, including before dawn and after sunset.  They ride right down the middle of the middle lane, usually with dark clothes on. There are occasional accidents, but I’m surprised there aren’t more.

California allows motorcyclists to ride between lanes.  That was scary as fuck at first.

I see that shit all over the west.  I haven't documented where it happens, but it isn't just California.  I am sure it is bleed over of the practice.

Scares the fuck out of me when some Harley goes rumbling by at 25-30mph in bumper to bumper.

I'm used to it now and I'm not mad at the bikers though, that's another topic as I think a lot of bikers can be shitheads.  But the first month it scared the shit out of me.  I wonder how many accidents have been caused.

I can't get used to it so it's slightly annoying, but on the grand scale who gives a shit.

It is surprising as hell to me that there aren't numerous serious accidents with a 700lb motorcycle bombing down a 6 ft or so corridor between row of slowly moving cars.  But, I haven't seen any occur.

What’s a starfucker and what does it have to do with wearing dark clothes at night?

A starfucker is a shot that was consumed by a moderately cute blonde legislative aide who then ran over Will Muschamp’s nanny in Tarrytown while he was still the DC here.

Cyclists in bike lanes going the wrong direction.

I was turning right, and looked to the left to see if there was any traffic. It was dark and luckily I glanced to the right to see 2 dipshits coming at me full speed, no lights, and wearing dark clothes. Maybe I should have granted them their death wish.

I was always astounded at people cruising along in the left lanes of 290 going 70+ with only a thin strip of yellow paint between them and oncoming traffic.

Nothing starts your day quite like finding your garbage strewn across the yard when you step out to head to work.  I normally like trash pandas, but they better give me a wide berth today.

Spray some Windex on the can/bag and it will keep stray doggos from furkin' it up.  I'd use a .22 for anything else.

This one's on me.  I didn't lock down the lid like I should have, and raccoons are too smart to give them an opening like that.  It/they did the deed while I was asleep.  I know it's a raccoon from tracks in the sand near the can.  Annoying, but not worth shooting anything.

Delivery person who puts large heavy packages against a screen door.

This was infuriating during covid. We’d get a restaurant delivery and they’d put it right against the screen door on the one step up to the door so all the food would spill if I pushed it with the door. We’ve got a giant covered porch. Set it anywhere else before you ring the bell and run.

Give her a break man. Do you know how much energy it takes to waddle 60 feet?

Leftover pasta kicks ass. I see no problem.

the complaint is the incongruence between the common package size and a common recipe amount.  similar to hot dog buns coming 8 to a pack and hot dogs coming 10 to a pack.

I have a lot of "older" recipes that, when they were written, you could get the ingredients in the amounts noted.  However, over time the packaging sizing has changed thus creating an issue.
