I can’t drink decaf (I stopped drinking regular coffee several years ago for neuro reasons) without my heart rate going bonkers.

I’m starting to notice the same with alcohol. A beer with dinner last night made my heart feel like shit. This sucks because I like having a beer after a long day, sipping on some whisky and having an occasional glass of wine with dinner.

The alcohol thing is how I found out that I was starting to have heart problems many years ago.  Ĵust one night out of the blue I had 2 margaritas at a Mexican restaurant and holy crap, started getting flutters and heart palpitations.  Never had any problems with caffeine up to that point.

When you buy a box of crunchy taco shells and half of them are already broken.

And a corollary — Ortega stopped selling just the large crunchy taco shells by themselves. At least from what I’ve seen. Now they come in a box divided half-n-half between crunchy and soft. Their crunchy taco shells came in a firm plastic tray that was sealed with a flexible plastic cover and preserved the shells better. Old El Paso sells a box of 10 “grande” shells but they’re enclosed in shrink wrap and, the first time I tried them, the top 2 were broken on top and the bottom 3 were broken on the bottom.

Maybe you enjoy a wider selection of shells but those are the only options I have. This sucks.

There’s a wall of bullshit before you get to the actual recipe (another thing that makes me surly!) but here’s how to make your own taco shells. Looks pretty simple.

I don't think this really makes me "surly", more I just don't get it.

I've noticed more and more over the last few years, every time I park in a large parking lot, especially at the grocery store, I look around as I'm walking and notice about 1/3 of the parked vehicles have someone sitting in them, fucking with their phones or napping or something.

Is this Uber/Doordash drivers just killing time until next trip? Couples with a single vehicle between them and one doesn't want to go in? Marginally homeless?

Those dicks don’t suck themselves, ya know?

When we have kids with us, usually only one of us will go into the store. Makes life a little easier. And when I'm driving around DFW for work, grocery parking lots are an easy place for me to pull over and check my emails and stuff.

Fuck a bunch of prepackaged taco shells, it's easy as hell to make them fresh and they don't taste like freaking cardboard.

...and that sucks too. Large frying pan, hot grease, voila you've got it.

Yeah, I’m not going to mess with all that. You left out the tortillas themselves and a form of some sort to let them cool on otherwise I’ll end up with tostadas. I’m not hosting a dinner party. It’s just for me and that’s too much hassle. One pan with tin foil,  6-7 minutes in the oven, and the prepackaged shells are ready to go. There’s no cleanup.

I’m not trying to be fancy. I’m using a seasoning packet for the meat, iceberg lettuce, and prepackaged shredded sharp cheddar cheese. Either I find large Ortega shells by themselves, switch back to the small size, or just buy soft tortillas and make burritos. I haven’t done that in ages anyway so maybe it’s time for a change.

Fuck that. I love me a wide bottom stand up on its own taco shell out of a box, toasted lightly in the oven.

I tried those once but they split in two as soon as you bit into them.

The stories the women authors write on their recipe pages before you get to the actual recipe I believe I’ve brought up in this very thread before

I share the same universal frustration, but this is not a "women authors" thing - it's a Google thing.

I hate how the “suggested tip” at the bottom of a restaurant bill now starts at 18%, 20% and 22%.

What happened 15% for a small party, 18% for 6+ ?

You mean 10%.

I usually start at 20% plus for tipping, but if you’re going to try and force an amount on me you’re probably gonna be really disappointed with what I wind up actually giving.

The lovely lady who insists on double parking her dually at daycare, and sitting in the parking lot on the phone for 20 minutes idling, all the while filling the playground with diesel fumes.  I drove a diesel for 4 years, and knew DAMN well you can shut it down and restart it without causing detrimental damage.

My pickup mechanic and my tractor mechanic have both requested that the machines get shut off rather than idle for an extended period of time. Both guys said that idling is actually hard on the engine.

I checked into my SWA EXACTLY 24 hours before the flight. I mean like having my kid watch the clock, do the countdown and me pressing the button EXACTLY at 12:45. We got C8 thru C11.

What magic are other people using (assuming they’re not paying an extra $15 per ticket)?

The amount of bullshit food/medical advise is too damn high!
This is bad for you. This is good for you. Plant based. No meat. No plants. All meat. No vax. Must vax. Fuck off peddlers of bullshit.

Damnit to Hell! If I find out a company stands for this, but not that! Well, I’m glad you virtue signaled, but now I get to choose! MF, can we just be customers and businesses, and just conduct business, us per usual?

It's a combination of status and paying the Early Bird fee. A-List Preferred and A-List get checked in automatically 36 hours before the flight. Then the people who paid for the Early Bird get checked in. So, if you don't have the status and didn't pay for the Early Bird, you won't get a good boarding number on a popular flight.

If you really want to get on early and don't mind not sitting in an exit row. Throw a brace on your knee, and when you check in tell them you need to pre-board. However only one other person can board with you as a pre-boarder. I've seen it done, I haven't had to, since I have status.

I have flown SWA a lot in the last 3 years and this is how it goes. I have seen as many as 20-25 pre-boarders on a popular destination, flying out of PHX.

On the flip side, they have family boarding after the A group, so we could sit with our kids - 8 and 10 year old.

The agent originally said that they’d only allow family boarding with kids 6 and under, and l’d have to talk to the flight attendant to get at least 2 seats together. But who the fuck would let their 8 year old sit with some random person?

People who buy mild salsa.

Except some versions make a good soup/stew base. If you think of it as a green Chile stew starter, or a Mexican tomato chicken soup starter, it’s useful.
For dipping and such, medium’s the way to go…because 1) I’m getting older, and 2) I married a gringa who still occasionally complains when I cook something using “too much black pepper.” Even my kids roll their eyes.

Being an aficionado of spicy food in the Upper Midwest can be a tough row to hoe.  Almost impossible to avoid mild salsa.

We were in Hawaii last week having brunch when a clearly corn fed kid with Midwest complexion pointed excitedly at another breakfast patron and whispered “mom, they put hot sauce on their eggs!”

Made me chuckle.

Just returned from a trip to Philly and the "hot sauce" at one place was just red-colored vinegar. Zero heat.

You wouldn't even see a Midwestern restaurant attempt to make their own hot sauce, unless it was some place in a city that knew what they were doing.  Pretty much any restaurant will at least have bottled name brand hot sauce that you recognize and tastes the same everywhere.

A clothes hanger on the floor of the canned bean aisle leads me to suspect that you bear part of the blame for frequenting this particular store in the first place.

That looks very Walmart-like. If so, entering a Walmart is basically launching oneself into fuck around and find out mode.

Both of these.  But it's also Vic.  Not sure what we expected.  He's probably scoping the chicks.
