"I appreciate you"

Getting tired of hearing this banal trite bullshit.

Guess what, I do not appreciate you.

I certainly appreciate the care given by the doctors & nurses whenever I’m in the hospital, and let them know it.
I never say “I appreciate you”, but rather “your help” or “your care”.

I like cats. But they don't belong in a bar/cafe. Nor does your obnoxious puppy or rottweiler.

Next time I hear "can you watch my dog" going to say sure, then leave with it.

Do people really do that, with random strangers?  I’m not a pets=people person, but that’s kinda like, ‘Hey, will you watch my kid while I go take a leak?’

It would just be freaking weird.

Yes. Usually to someone they may know. Or a thirsty dude trying to impress a coed. Hi, can you watch my dog for a second?

"You wanna...?" or "Would you like to...?"

Really it's not so much the question as it is the response to my answer. On some occasions, that's "yes" or "sure, why not?"

Most of the time, though, I go with "Do I want to? No. Will I? Yes."

If the original question came from a person of the male persuasion, it's all good, and away we go. But with the female, for some reason that triggers a discussion about why not? Pointing out that I said yes invariably fails to close the discussion.

Fuck me.

It's pretty trivial - but damn, it can be annoying.

I could have written most of those.

Related, earlier today I received an email from geico saying someone was going to be added to my insurance as a driver because "It appears that 'driver' may be a licensed or permitted driver with your address listed as their primary address."

We moved in a couple months ago and presumably this was someone who lived here before. An apparent dumbass who hasn't updated their address.

They informed me if I didn't take action, this person would have been added.

Yeah, that makes sense. New homeowner at a new address with a different last name from the previous owner. So we'll add someone from that previous owner's policy to your insurance unless you tell us not to. Idiots.

As it was, I had to call and go through about 6 levels of AI phone tree bullshit to get someone.

I should've added the simple "Nope" as one of my occasional answers... unfortunately, I am such a positive-minded guy that I only described the reluctantly affirmative responses.

Alhtough, to your question, my immediate response would probably be "With you? Nah, but I'll take pics if you pay for the film..."

For people who actively and regularly use email for work, and have and use their work email account linked to an iPhone, maybe this isn't trivial.....so.....what the FUCK with the iPhone OS upgrade that it did this weekend?  It turned the email application -- which was, and should always be, simple....because it's f'n EMAIL -- into a clusterfuck.

email-changes-coming-to-ios-18.jpg&w=384

Oh, it's fancy, it now uses "Apple intelligence"....because EVERYTHING tech-related has to have AI these days -- does it have AI?  Did you put in some AI?  GOTTA HAVE AI!!!

Why?  It's fucking EMAIL.  It is a message.  Sent electronically.  With words.  Let me see what I saw before -- I didn't need a stupid task bar at the top sorting "primary" vs. "all mail" -- I only have one account linked to my iPhone email (I have a gmail address....it goes to my gmail app, so the two accounts don't mix).  So get rid of the pointless, space-eating task bar.  Even better, when it defaults to "primary," it only shows SOME of the email in my email.  Again, all those emails are to and from THE SAME ACCOUNT.  But they only all show up if I go to "all email" tab.  So, I get up this morning, and see that I only have two emails.  That's odd (I usually have at least 6-8, including some regular, every day emails).  I open it, toggle over to "all email," and sure enough, 6 emails.

Then, when you've opened and read all your emails -- because I actually do open and read all work emails -- the red number telling you how many unread emails....stays the same.  For a long-ass time.  So, when I look at my phone and see a red "5" on there, do I need to pop open my email because I now have 5 new emails?  Or, are those the 5 emails I opened and read an hour ago?  Who the fuck knows!

They took a basic system, which required limited functionality (because "simple" is actually good sometimes), stuck some "AI" in it....and fucking broke it.

Does it have AI?  IT'S GOTTA HAVE AI!!!

Oh, and don't get me started on Jason's Deli lunch orders.  I LIKE Jason's deli -- the quarter muff and cup of gumbo combo is a winner.  But when you order a Jason's Deli tray....it comes with utterly miserable and mediocre sandwiches and wraps, with none of the good stuff to be found.

So, I’ll get behind them and flash my lights. Hell, if we stop at a light, I’ll even tap my horn, and flash my lights to get their attention. 95% of the time…nada. Zero reaction. There’s a dude honking at you and turning his lights on and off in your rearview, repeatedly…and you do nothing. I don’t fucking get it. I’ve had someone flash their lights at me, I immediately wonder what is up.

Man be careful doing that. I heard some gangs initiate their new members by driving around with their lights off and the first person that flashes them is their next murder victim.

Quoted for emphasis.  They replaced the windshield in my previous Tacoma.  It leaked and made the whole damn truck smell musty/moldy until I sold it (finally figured out the windshield was leaking when I came back from a business trip and noticed the carpet was wet after leaving the truck parked at the airport for a week).  They pulled the windshield and resealed it, but the smell stayed.

Last night I felt the hand of God smacking me down. Body ache, plugged nose, headache, etc. etc. Second time in 2 months is way too often.

Fucked up tomato kills me. When making the sandwich you know it sucks. You see that it sucks. It feels sucky. And you stick it on the sandwich. Thus, you suck.

Or when they put a cold side (cole slaw) in with hot sides (mac and cheese). Why don't you just mix them together you lazy ass?

I do have to ask. Who the hell ordered your lunch?

Another peeve are when we call in lunch for a project team. We put it in a common area and out come the cubicle dwellers. Fuckers, you did not eat so you can get soggy sandwiches that were sitting in our team room for at least an hour? Come on. I get it, it is a novelty and "guests" get treated special. But it ain't that good.

When I run a team I love it when there is a small family place in the building or nearby. Give me a vietnamese run deli any day. call ahead, ask if they can put some tables together, and meet there. Plus we can get out of the conference room for a bit.

Just show me what comes through and let me decide. I could literally be sued for millions of dollars in malpractice if I miss certain emails and am sure as fuck not letting outlook or apple limit what shows up.

Some motherfucker in the lab I work in left an open(!) gallon jug of 95% methanol (toxic, extremely flammable, burns with an invisible flame) just sitting in the fume hood, with the exhaust fan off. Couldn't be bothered to take the 15 seconds and screw the lid back on return it to the flammables cabinet, which is like 5 feet away from the fume hood. I know who did it, even if I have no direct evidence. Who knows how long that shit has been sitting there, evaporating away.

And of course we get safety audited, and the safety nazis wrote us up for it (as they should have).

So now we all have to take a chemical safety course. 4 hours sitting in room listening to some 20 year old nerd drone on. We're lucky we didn't fined.

Sweartogod, post docs are some of the dumbest assholes alive. I'm surprised the dumb motherfucker didn't light a cigarette and immolate himself like a Buddhist monk while he was in there dicking around.

And the dingle-cherry on the shit sundae is that I have been assigned by the lab director to inventory all the chemicals and make sure they are all properly stored, with the proper paperwork filed with the safety nazis. Because the post doc who left the shit out in the first place is too busy to do it.
