YouTube ads.  I got them blocked on desktop, but can't do the same on smartphone unless you run it through browsers or sketchy 3rd party apps.

So I caved and paid $8 for the Premium Lite subscription.

What also makes me surly is if you're typing direct from consciousness, you think "8 dollars" but have to invert the order to "$8"

Speaking of annoying phone calls, I accidentally answered one Wednesday.  Some yahoo wanted me to switch my auto insurance.  I told 'em we were self-insured and didn't need their service.  Tone followed by "uh......what's self-insured"? " Well, if you have to ask you can't afford it" and hung up.

As a recovering insurance agent, this is funny.

I was in SF for climate week.  Attended and hosted quite a few events.  Most were great none were horrible.  The usual plan is to sign up for a bunch of events and then once accepted, decide which one to go to.  The challenge is you have no idea how big the crowd will be.

One of them was a dud.  8 people showed up including a couple who was clearly friends of the host.  Found out they lived in Austin but were from SA, went to utsa.  Group did an intro and the young guy said “moved out here for work” while the wife is “I’m a hippie, part time volunteer, etc “ sounds great though I’m curious how they’re surviving on one salary in SF.  Chatted the guy up and thought he may have been an engineer. Nope.  He let it slip that he worked for a conservative church. 20 minutes later, the lady says to me and my colleague, who is indeed conservative himself “glad you’re here.  The hippie story is a cover up.  I’m a pro life activist “

be comfortable in your own skin people.  No need to lie

Yeah, I'm moderately liberal in a fairly conservative community and I've never shied away from my beliefs publicly.  I hear people in political minorities on both sides claim a need to do that fairly often and I just don't quite get it.  I'm not out there vociferously blasting my politics, but if someone asks me or engages me on the topic I'm honest about it.

But it's probably easier for me because everything about my life would lead someone to think I was a Republican, and I'm not a small guy either, so I generally haven't had to worry about people fucking with me.

Yea and they’re a nice enough couple I’d even say kind.   And yea it could be a safety thing.  I wouldn’t go around SF screaming I’m pro life either.not all stereotypes are true of course but a young couple from SA may not align politically with the most liberal city in the US

Yeah, same same for me. Bald, white, oldish, live in rural Texas, drive a pick up, wear cowboy boots fairly often, talk with a Texan drawl. Cowboy hat if out in the sun for extended periods of time (which is fairly frequently because of my job).

I generally keep my politics to myself (irl at least), unless the other guy brings it up first. I'm old school in the sense that you don't talk politics or religion except to close friends/family. That's getting harder and harder to live by as shit keeps getting worse and worse.

Cuts both ways, both conservatives and liberals mistake me for a conservative. Sometimes its funny, sometimes its annoying. Most times, whatever.

I agree this is old school, and I'm the same way.  But I also think that this is one of the problems that we have.

We're taught not to talk politics or religion in polite company.  Instead, families, churches, and schools should be teaching children and other people how to have a civil conversation about these topics with someone that disagrees with you.

That's the skill that's lost--many people on every point of the political and religious spectrum lose their minds when someone disagrees with them (which is why I avoid the CR like the plague).

Just have a civil conversation with me, that's all I ask.
