He found out the Texans traded DeAndre Hopkins from the internet.

I give teams a pass on this in the 2020s. When JJ Watt hung up the phone with the Texans last week and went straight to Facebook live for a video statement, ESPN broke the story simultaneously. Teams and agents have leaks and the real time media is ready to pounce. Were the Texans supposed to tell Watson of Hopkins’s trading (or any transaction) before it was finalized and could still fall through? He is not the president or GM.

If you handed an NFL franchise to a group of 14 year olds from Slovenia, and told them to run it, someone in the group would say "we need to hire someone who knows a lot about how these teams are run, and has had a lot of success at the highest level of this NFL thing." That would place said group of 14 years olds from Slovenia miles ahead of the Texans' ownership in terms of decision making.

I saw some (likely bullshit) report that Carolina would be willing to give up their first rounders this year and next, plus McCaffrey and Brian Burns. I would take that fucking deal in a heartbeat...

Yeah, I would probably call my franchise qb to let him know I just traded his best wr.

I am still confused on when they were supposed to inform him. Before the trade was negotiated...because if a trade fell through there’s no way Deshaun or his camp would leak it to the guy who almost got traded or cut....

In today’s sports, when something happens the media has it in minutes and people like Deshaun get their social media blown up seconds later.

this post and the texans overall remind me of peyton manning shitting on the knicks at the espys, “porzingas couldn’t believe how dysfunctional things were and that dude grew up in latvia.”

Everyone is forgetting that all the dysfunction was in place before Watson signed his massive contract. Cal was running the show, Hopkins had been traded, Easterby was in the building, Gaines had been run off and O’Brien had traded away the draft capital. What has really changed?  BoB being gone is a positive. I guess Watson not getting to choose the GM and HC was new.

Watson has the same info we all do and more. The GM search did not follow a process and its clear Easterby is still the highest ranking staff member in the organization. Then they hired someone even less qualified than BOB as head coach. Not to mention that Easterby is a cancer that repels qualified football staff and players.

The Texans are spiraling. And much of that decline was made more apparent during this past season.

I think the narrative that Watson is demanding say in personnel decisions is overblown and possibly part of a smear campaign against him.

Watson’s camp is using Adam Schefter as their outlet, go read what Schefter has had to say about this. I lay no blame at Watson’s feet but there’s no smear campaign.

They also cut Duke Johnson to save another $5M or so. David Johnson should be a slam dunk to cut too with nearly $6M in non-guaranteed money. Probably preparing themselves for the cap reduction plus eating $22M in dead money when/if they trade Watson.

And hopefully preparing themselves for a half empty stadium.

I saw this posted on PFT and did a double take.

DeAndre Hopkins in 2020 – 1,407 yds and 6 TDs at $27,250,000 cap hit
David Johnson in 2020 – 1,005 yds and 8 TDs at $11,000,000 cap hit

I would hope you are correct, but there too many idiots in this town that will jump on those tickets.

For all of those ‘sellouts’, it always seemed to me like the place was half full, especially after halftime. Shitload of O&G companies who host ‘awesome’ tailgates in the lots ensure tickets are sold, but most of the ‘ticket holders’ are just there to get drunk and stay in the parking lot and watch the game on TV. The Blue lot sucks shit - a bunch of corporate tents with DJs and professional sound systems all drowning each other out.

Then why bother to get up and drive down to an asphalt lot in the first place? Free Bud fucking Light?

Disclaimer - I drink Bud Light like a fish during tailgates

I am not sure about that.  The Texans have been massively popular.  I can tell you I know several investors in the team personally, including family, and they are worried about what has happened the last 18 months.

Jamey Rootes is a big loss.   He has made the McNairs and other investors a mint.  Pre covid they were making distributions of $100 million a year to the owners.  A million bucks a point.

That doesn’t even take into consideration that their original investment has quadrupled in value.

Do they have any options for making their worries known that would help? Do Janice/Cal care?

Resigning David Johnson, so Texans.
