I'm fully aware of what I am and am not saying, and I never drew any sort of false equivalence. This place is such a circle jerk echo chamber, to the point where you don't even read what people say, you just assume they're running a play out of some playbook and you jump to the end.

I am not unbelievably smug and condescending.

My smugness and condescension is very, very believable. Just ask around.

And like hell you weren’t building false equivalencies. It’s exactly what you were doing. Fuck, it’s the ONLY thing you were doing. It’s a play the rest of the world recognizes because we’ve watched it being run repeatedly and relentlessly by OANN, Fox, Trump, and GOP leadership for years now. And you telling us “I’m not doing what I’m obviously doing” is just the remainder of that play.

"Your side" is the one that consistently elects terrible people who believe government is inherently bad, uses that argument against those who don't subscribe to such simplistic buffoonery, gain power on said gambit, then prove the initial premise by crapping in their own hands and smearing the walls of Congress with shit while the numbnuts who voted for them infect social media and their favorite internet forums with bothsideritis.

You voted for Trump twice you fool. Maybe you should clean up your own mess and take some accountability instead of hiding behind weak false equivalencies and the same tired arguments about how they're all the same?

Not really. By and large, we think of them as second-rate intellects who are often in it only for themselves (not always, but often), and even when they aren’t, they find it hard to stay that way, and they are usually way too influenced by all the wrong things.

The current crop of fucking insane lying sociopaths who aren’t just willing to, but are actively working to, undermine any semblance of a functioning republic, happily destroying all norms (even the most fundamental ones, like “a peaceful transition of power”), using absolutely insane, outlandish lies to do so….they stand aside and apart from mere “unsavory politicians.”

Most politicians are like your unpleasant uncle….he comes at Christmas, he drinks too much of your good scotch, he’s full of himself, tells stories that are just a bit too outlandish to be believed but you humor him anyway, and you’re damn glad he’s gone.

The current crop of GQP shitheads are like the other uncle who flat-out steals meds from your bathroom medicine cabinet, calls your wife a fucking cunt at the dinner table (and then when you call him on it, he yells at you for being a rude host), and not only will he not leave your house after Christmas, he insists it’s really HIS house, and you need to GTFO, and he gets his three POS kids to show up and start shit with you at your office.

We all deal with the first uncle. The second uncle should be kicked in the balls at the threshold of your home, after which you lock the door and arm yourself.

To me the worst stories are like the one we recently saw in Houston where the mom abandoned her 3 alive and 1 dead child in an apt. And while the crime was 100% on the mom and boyfriend, the govt failed those kids too.

I don't see how the media comes into play with child disappearances.

Trump completely mishandled Covid on the messaging/leadership level but when you compare what his administration did versus what Biden is doing regarding economic relief and the pandemic, this kinda sums it:

don't forget a labor shortage.

i think biden could be doing better, but there are severe economic factors out of his control.

i'm curious as to how his critics want him to enact policy that will curb inflation and lower fuel prices. what's that look like?

it's just empty criticism, imo.

You’re ignoring their feelings.  Their feelings were hurt.  They must lash out.  By saying fuck your feelings, and calling people snowflakes and stuff.  Remember, every accusation is a confession.  That holds 100% true with trump supporters.

Additionally, consolidated corporate control of many goods and services has exacerbated the inflation problem. The mega corporations are posting record profits and some are doing stock buy backs. They are using higher input costs as an excuse to inflate prices much higher than they should be because with almost no competition, they can get away with it.  Almost like they’re applying the pharmaceutical pricing model.  Additionally this gouging continues down the supply chain because when a supplier raises a price by a nickel, the middle man raise it a dime. That’s one way you get runaway “inflation.”

we did earlier in the pandemic.  the vast majority of the stimmies came and went with nary a sniff of inflation.  that shit was all spent and burned through by the time the inflation got started.  this inflation isn't due to the cash pushed into the system.

Ironically when it comes to policy, Republicans are advocates for corporate welfare (socialism) when they’re in power because they don’t have the political liability of being called a socialist and voters are too stupid to recognize socialism unless someone on Fox News cries about a democrat doing it.

Regarding your question, I can’t answer it but I can tell you both administrations are exploiting the pandemic for political gain at the expense of the population.  The funny thing is Biden is behaving more like a traditional Republican on both a rhetorical and policy level. Disregard ongoing mass death, look at my fantastic economic numbers!

In what ways has Joe Biden failed to handle the pandemic as well as possible?  I think there is very little criticism possible on the vaccine front, save perhaps the emphasis on 2 shots ASAP as opposed to spreading 1 shot out over a larger swath of the population.  I have yet to see a convincing argument that this had a significant effect.

I suspect there could have been a stronger national push for improved contact tracing.  What else?  I mean, his policoes directly impacted the rapid uptake of vaccines, and there is no way the previous administration would have have anywhere near that level of success, so at the most fundamental level, he gets a very positive grade.  Perhaps not perfect, but very good nonetheless.

Just looking at the stats for the previous year.

In 2019, 609,000 people were entered (or "intered" for Ms. Boebert) in the FBI's missing person's database.  544,000 were canceled (not actually missing) or cleared (came back).  At the close of 2019, the FBI had 87,400 active missing persons reports.  30,000 of those were 18 and under, 39,000 were 21 and under.  The vast majority were runaways, with a small number being abducted by non-custodial parents, and a very tiny amount by strangers (well less than 1% it looks like).

So I'm thinking an intern, or Lauren, just grabbed a figure from a social media post and threw it out there, not realizing that the active cases are actually only in the tens of thousands.

For reasons I don't understand, the meme seems to be being pumped by the federal government, as much as anyone.  The whole thing pretty much started with the Adam Walsh Act.  I mean, seriously, you have a criminal law enacted that's named after the kid of a TV star?

This is not to diminish the horror of it when it occurs, and it does.

It's much older than that- this is just the latest incarnation. Hell, I'm old enough to remember the Satanic Panic of the early 80's, and all of the "stranger danger" worries (when the overwhelming majority of child abductions are facilitated by a family member or family friend).
