I was 6 when I fell out of my neighbors tree. Yeah, we were stealing mangos. Did it everyday during the season once school was out. Fell right on top of their Shepherd and she messed me up.

I ended up raising shepherds and still love that breed to this day.

Dummy, you don't have to climb the tree to steal mangos -- there will be plenty on the ground.

An excellent analysis on the sacking of the Capitol, and how it unfolded.  TLDR conclusions: The essential piece to this event was either 1) absolute, complete and total law enforcement incompetence, or 2) either orders or sympathetic action by Trumpist cops that made cops stand down and let it happen.

It was classic and perfectly executed stochastic terrorism, with inside help (either intentional or incompetent).

Allegations of racism against the Capitol Police are nothing new: Over 250 Black cops have sued the department since 2001. Some of those former officers now say it’s no surprise white nationalists were able to storm the building.

Since 2001, hundreds of Black officers had sued the department for racial discrimination. They alleged that white officers called Black colleagues slurs like the N-word and that one officer found a hangman’s noose on his locker. White officers were called “huk lovers” or “FOGs” — short for “friends of gangsters” — if they were friendly with their Black colleagues. Black officers faced “unprovoked traffic stops” from fellow Capitol Police officers. One Black officer claimed he heard a colleague say, “Obama monkey, go back to Africa.”

Uh, that just makes me enraged.  Not sure why it's a good 3 minutes.  It's putting on display all of the criminal, seditious, hateful rhetoric that radicalized millions of Americans and inspired them to try and violently overthrow the government.  I kept waiting for Trevor Noah to break in a eviscerate them, but nope.  Just a highlight reel of America's worst scumbags.  Thanks?

Yeah, when do they do the funny part.  That was fucking depressing.

Going to have to disagree about the best 3 minutes but that's for another thread.  Yeah, TDS kills it, Trevor does a phenomenal job on that show.

I had to stop watching that fucking video. it gives me hives to listen to fucking conmen and thieves do their thing. biggest, most spoiled pussies this world has ever produced. At times I've been embarrassed to be an American and/or Texan in the last 20 to 30 years of my life, but this is just awful. my friends here down under - from Europe, Latin Amr, Australia, everywhere - are now just using "American" and "guns" and "violence" and "insurrection" in every moment of every other joke. They just sit there laughing and perplexed at how people are that fucking dumb. fuck

I sweatergawd the 4 conservatives left on Surly seem to think the DT is a safe space for them a'la Parler.  It's pretty sad how useless the news thread is for actual information because of the constant thread shitting.

I still try to understand the disproportionality of their outrage.

Pelosi or some libtard doesn't wear mask.  a page of mostly people saying its dumb. but a page isn't enough for these 4 weirdos. but we definitely need more than a page for a coup attempt. And CR is most definitely an anti-trump echo chamber that some of us make fun of too, but again, coup versus vandalism. Murder of black folks by the state versus private company banning people. The outrage discrepancy is just really fucking hard to explain. They must go to some other outrage place to get their nuts in vice before coming to their safe place and flapping their pussy lips. I would just let them be. Seems like our resident evanglizer @Brisketexan has stopped bothering to try and raitonalize with em. and that's good. that time has passed.

It has. And I believe them when they promise a fight:

I respect the Surly grandfather who said, (paraphrasing,) “You can’t reason someone out of a position that they didn’t reason themselves into.”

Now, more than a week after the stunning Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, many former security officials remain mystified by one question: Why did the vast resources of federal law enforcement result in no threat assessment of what was coming?

It would have come in the form of a joint intelligence bulletin: a report prepared by the FBI and Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence & Analysis that would have given Capitol police, D.C. cops, and others information about what was in store.

The bulletin itself is a nearly perfunctory assessment done before any major event, ranging from the Super Bowl to a large protest. One was reportedly issued on Jan. 13, in advance of the Biden inauguration.

Quote

The lack of such a bulletin in advance of Jan. 6 shocked former government officials.

Across conversations with multiple former DHS officials and analysts, TPM found that a top-down aversion from the Trump administration towards addressing the threat of far-right extremism, inept management, and the dismantling of DHS bureaucracies aimed at coordinating, analyzing, and disseminating information about extremist groups contributed to the lack of warning.

“Nobody wanted to write a formal intelligence report about this, in part out of fear that such a report would be very poorly received by the MAGA folks within DHS,” one former DHS official who served in the Trump administration told TPM, on condition of anonymity to speak freely.

i've concluded we have to charge these people with more than "improper presence on federal property" or whatever shit we are hearing now.  doing a schrodinger's crime dance of insurrection/just funnin' and coming up with that bullshit middle is playing exactly to the fox news of the world.  they pretend their violent rhetoric is given with a wink. a weak charge says that we agree.  someone needs to go down for violent overthrow of the government charge and get their ass executed or housed in gitmo.

Keep two words in mind when the Feds move to finalize charges: "jury selection".

There will be Trump supporters in the jury pool. There will be people who think the election was rigged. There will be people who have a hard time distinguishing between a BLM protest on the streets and a insurrectionists storming the Capitol.  Trying to get a conviction on even the obvious will come down to jury selection.

There were Trumpers on Manafort’s jury that voted to convict in EDVA, so I’m not entirely sold that they’re incapable of convicting terrorists

@drt They are not conservatives.  They are idiots that pretend that conservative = republicans.   Conservatives believe in fiscal responsibility, states rights, following the rules set forth and agreed to in the US Constitution, and do not as a party believe in making up rules for screwing over the opposition party president in one year and then to change it when faced with the same thing a few years later.

Republicans are not conservatives.   Anymore than the Soviets were Communists, or the People's Republic of China is actually a Republic.  Shit most of them cannot define communism, socialism or capitalism.  We are even seeing how these idiots cannot honestly discuss what the first amendment means in public because as a party they are all corrupt and they are all complicit in the corruption.

Not from your German neighbors in Central America ya don't.

My German Shepherd Bite story is when my Uncle's (actually older cousin: Alabama) dog Kaiser was trying to chew on a bloody beef bone and my genius move was to bend over his neck to pet him. The semi-wolf left me some small scars on my jaw not far from the jugular, and a lifelong opinion that dogs should be allowed to eat in peace.

The good news is most of the idiots can't keep their mouth shut about their love of MAGA. should be fairly easy to get them to out themselves.

Arguably, any case boils down to jury selection.  And, if these people are tried, it looks like it will be in the DC District, which has a much lower likelihood of catching a Trumpkin (implicit in your post, but for the peanut gallery).

Manafort's lawyers wanted to move the trial--didn't happen.  Try them in DC, since that's where the crime was committed.
