Just got this from a friend who also used to live in Tyler, anyone one know if this is real? Check the line under the picture.

I mean, I know ETX and all but to put that in a "real" newspaper is making me lose my mind. These are the same fucks who keep electing Louie Gohmert.

Seems unlikely.  I only see that posted on a single twitter account with 2 different pictures, including the one you posted.  But should be easy to verify.  I'm sure there is a surly poster in Tyler with a subscription.

Did you know the word "gullible" is not in the dictionary?

If you are saying it's clearly fake, cool that's why I asked. I can't believe it can be real but at this particular moment it's hard to trust my instincts on what can be possible with these people.

I've said a few times that it looked like they were just let in there. I didn't mean it literally until seeing these videos. W.T.F.

A lot of people worry about what happens when these people make concerted efforts to take over state houses and cities.

The cops in this country who are sympathetic to this movement are a serious problem.

That's my favorite press photo of all time.  It should have won a Pulitzer.

He announced the rally. They openly planned to kill Congressional leadership for a month. They showed up, he riled them up, and told them to fight for him and march on the Capitol. They then assaulted Capitol police, killing one and injuring dozens, and broke into the Capitol with guns, pipe bombs, molotovs, flex cuffs, and set up a gallows outside, with the known intent of capturing and executing Congressional leadership, the Vice President, and more. Congress as a body needs to fucking state that he's responsible for that and forcefully establish repercussions for trying to decapitate America's legislature, and if it can't act as a unified body to do so because Republicans will still put party over country each of them needs to put their name to that with a vote.

It was a fucking coup attempt. Now isn't the time for "now guys let's not overreact, let's just let things die down and hope he doesn't try again."

I agree 100%, but politically, there are tons of "moderate" people who vote democrat (hence Joe Biden), who would be turned off by an aggressive response like that, and it is a political reality that must be considered. I want the democrats to be more progressive, but I'll take the most moderate democrats in office over anyone associated with today's gop. I want to see justice served severely here, but I understand if the response remains tepid.

I wonder if the officer was referring to the MAGA agitators or if there was other context .... for instance, disagree but respect the outcome of the election... maybe possibly...ah who am I kidding....

Several officers of color here. That shit blows me away. And I know that disparate force against minorities goes on regardless of having minority officers.

But it don't make no sense!

You are totally wrong about this. There was an attempted coup, incited by the president who took an oath to uphold the constitution and protect the United States. There can be no moderate response "just because" it failed and only a few people were killed.

We all agree that's all that's likely to happen--a measured response--and then in 4 and 12 and 20 years we'll by right back here wondering just how those dastardly Republicans almost pulled off a coup again. Those sneaky devils!

From Aggyland letters to the editor today:

Not tethered to truth

Our new representative in Congress, Pete Sessions, continues to promote the false narrative that there was mass fraud committed in the election.

The day after the seditious acts of an angry Donald Trump-inspired mob, Sessions' staff informed me that I simply was uninformed in my belief that Trump encouraged the riot. My whole problem, according his staff, was my source of news. Fox News, CNN, MSNBC, NPR, indeed any reputable news source just turned my pretty head, made me see things that weren't there.

We deserve better than this, Brazos Valley. We deserve someone at least loosely tethered to the truth.

And it isn't Pete Sessions.

Yes. Failed coups that receive soft responses are usually soon followed by successful coups.

Yup, but there are different standards for republicans and democrats. The demonization of anything democrat is really engrained among millions upon millions of "undecided" voters. They say they don't really like trump and will vote for Biden, oh but then Hunter Biden did something? OMG can't vote for him! Socialism? Oh noes! I am pretty sure that many of them right now think that things "got out of hand" but don't blame trump directly, or have been taught to fear "socialism" and dead babies etc. over any malfeasence from trump. Remember, he didn't say to storm the capital and try to enter the chamber, he just said that the election was stolen, that democrats are evil, that the media and deep state are acting for hugo chavez (or something like that), that they should all come to DC on Jan. 6, that they are patriots who need to stand up for their "rights" to "free and fair" elections, that they should all march down to the Capitol and make sure that justice is served, and that they are all very special and loved. But he didn't say to commit criminal acts, come on now!!!!!!

I'm serious. This is who many people think who need to vote democrat to keep gop out of office, but will switch in a heartbeat if the dems do anything too drastic. It's a complete double standard that is very real and very sad.

This concern should be near the top of worrisome shit.  A coup or putsch succeeds not because of the populist mob, but ALWAYS, because of sympathizers within the government and it's armed agents.  It is rather clear that we have a massive element of law enforcement that is openly sympathetic to the Trumpist Terrorist movement, and it damned well looks like some of them actively aided and abetted an attempt to decapitate our government this week.  That's.....a really fucking huge problem.

And this.  You don't ask nicely "please don't do that again."  You bring down the full weight of the state and stomp out every single sliver of the conspiracy.  If you violated the law by conspiring to overthrow the government, you go to prison.  If you are the POTUS, you are impeached and removed from office immediately.  That's it.  It's the only answer....unless you want it to happen again, and next time, be successful.

Which is why it needs to be explained, repeatedly, to everyone. The Dems need to be cutting ads and giving angry speeches highlighting every time Trump, Cruz, Hawley, et al spoke or tweeted encouragement, interspersed with clips of comments from The Donald and Parler about their plans to execute Congress, with reports of the guard's refusal to deploy when shit hit the fan, etc.

The less they say, the more the "oh he didn't mean for this to happen" lie will take hold.

Hugo starts a new thread every five minutes so it’s hard to keep up: where did they announce their intent to execute Congress? Facebook?

Agree.  CNN has been doing that very well.  FOX, not so much.  Sigh.

No, you have it backwards. Voters expect that of Democrats because they've proven themselves to be pussies for generations. One thing you should have learned by now is that Americans love a strongman. The Democrats have a chance right now to flip that entire script. And more importantly, if they don't do it then they're inviting something worse in the near future.

They just certified Biden’s victory a little over 36 hours ago. Pelosi’s office was ransacked, it was a crime scene. I think there are mitigating factors and your need for instant gratification is totally unrealistic. If articles of impeachment are filed on Monday then that is lightning fast. I think it sounds reasonable to give Trump the opportunity to resign or for his cabinet to invoke the 25th amendment to remove him. You obviously don’t. But since you are seemingly predisposed to bitch about everything Pelosi does, I’m unmoved by your argument.

@wild_turkey already commented here, but just echoing the same thing here man. i understand reality but we are not there. we are in life or death mode. please don't give cover to institutional incompetence. i understand we are the mob on 'this side' but still. they need to grow a pair and fight.

its like that time one Christmas morning when i saw the reaction on my grandpa's face when he realized Santa isn't real.

If there was ever momentum to act and show a backbone, it's now. Trump has lost Republicans the Presidency, House, and Senate in the past 4 years and just played a big part in inciting domestic terrorism. The people, including moderates, are (temporarily) on their side. We're tired of these conspiracy loons being given a platform by a dangerous clinical narcissist and the party that bends to them.

Did you not pay attention to the general election? Biden's performance was way short of what the polls predicted, and we were damn near close to another trump presidency from swing states. That tells me a lot of people told pollsters they'd vote for Biden then changed their minds. The only thing that happened late in the election cycle was "HUNTER BIDEN ARGGG" and "KAMALA IS A SOCIALIST LIKE VENEZUELA!!!" I think you give the electorate too much credit if you think trials for insurrection and sedition will move the needle towards democrats from this group of wishy washy low iq voters.
