You mean when one guy got into it with Secret Service during a protest?

You're comparing that to several thousand people breaking into the Capitol building hunting for the Vice President and United States Senators and assaulting police officers, killing one of them?

No offense, but you seem like an idiot.

Well that one guy must have been a bad ass since 60 Secret Service men were injured.  Maybe it was the rocks, bricks and bottles that ONE guy was throwing while attempting to gain access to the White House.

Or, maybe...there were more than just one guy.

BTW, the Capitol Policeman died of natural causes according to the Medical Examiner. Now, there were some unnatural deaths, but they were on the protesters side.

BTW, I appreciate the insult - It's always good to debate with someone that uses those.  They bring so much information to the table...

Well, sorry for being dismissive, but in fairness you are making a monumentally stupid analogy.

The first problem with the constant "what-about-ism" from Republicans is that you can't possibly win.  The Republicans have been worse than the Democrats by every reasonable measure for many years, and that goes for their elected leaders and their everyday members.  Anyone who thinks otherwise consumes too much Fox News.

The other problem is that you think that using "what-about-ism" to earn a draw, were such a thing even possible, would constitute some sort of a valid defense for your team.

There is no defending the modern GOP.  Anyone who tries is, no offense, an idiot.

You don't have to play dumb either.

It has literally been 1 day since I donated to a charity, so swing and a miss on that one.

I don't laugh at the homeless, obviously, but it's nice that you see your needs as being as dire as theirs. You really are a repugnant person, but you don't exactly hide that, do you?

It should probably be pointed out that this isn't just some giveaway.

It's DOJ lawyers in negotiations with lawyers for the separated to settle what appear to be valid claims for damages.  ANY administration would be facing this issue after Trump's depradations, and any batch of decent lawyers would be considering settlement over litigation.

If they don't settle, there will be lawsuits and judgments.

You’re going to always side with a party that is determined to end democracy as evidenced by documentable actions instead of a party where the Progressive Caucus (96 house and 1 senate member) members fight for "a universal, high-quality, Medicare for All health care system for all, living wage laws, reductions in military expenditure, a crackdown on corporate greed, putting an end to mass incarceration, supporting and implementing swift measures to start reversing climate change, immigration policies that are humane, and reparations.”

You’re siding with ending democracy because some progressives want to help some poor people?

Right.  You can easily vote D without endorsing rampant progressivism.  If you are voting for a lunatic R over a centrist D because of Ilhan Omar, you're an idiot.

Murder charges? We all saw it with our own eyes. It's always amazing to me when GOP talking heads quote George Orwell, but then GOPers come out and say shit like this.

Also, you're barking up the wrong tree with me on the rioters. Attempt to raid federal property for the purposes of destroying or wresting control and you won't get a tear out of me if you're met with a deadly federal response or receive hefty federal charges.

Well, as one of the right-leaning people, it is also how fully devoid of actual policy is the GOP.  They never offer alternatives, they just oppose.

Further, so much of what passes for policy is just culture war, -ism, and sound bites.  And lies.  So many lies.

BTW...after reading all of your posts on this thread, you are NOT "one of the right-leaning people".  All of the positions you've espoused here are either center left or far left positions.  Maybe you've moved left, I don't know.

But, carry on and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Yet most of those positions WERE conservative positions not very long ago. Seriously, several of them are right out of the GOP platform in the Reagan-Bush eras. That’s our point. We can say things that are literally verbatim from the mouths and platforms of Reagan to W, and those exact things are deemed “far left libtard” today.

Your criticism emphasizes our point, it doesn’t refute it.

Oh, and again, I stand super strong on the most basic conservative, patriotic foundation out there: I oppose all who attack my country, and who continue to support and enable the terror network that fed, inspired, and continues to feed and inspire them with insane lies. It is the most important issue facing us, because unless we can preserve the republic, none of the policy arguments matter.

That position puts me at odds with almost all of the GQP. Which tells us all we need to know.

I voted Republican for 35 years, not straight ticket.  I have never been much of a social conservative because that shit's nonsense and always has been.  I am personally pretty socially conservative, but not to the point that I feel a need to inflict that on others.

I disagree that anything I support is "far left."  But it makes sense that you would think so having already spuriously tossed out the socialism meme.

Happy Thanksgiving.

This is laughable.  The Republicans have no policies to state.  Unless you want to count "nos."

No immigration reform.  No regulation of firearms of any kind.  No Roe v. Wade.  No transgenders in bathrooms or playing sports.  No infrastructure spending.  No addressing climate change.  No tax hikes.  No addressing of healthcare.  No reform or forgiveness of student debt.  No attempt to address the wealth and income gaps.

The above is what TwiceHorn posted.

The first 3 have been GOP policy since before Reagan.

The 4th...well, still not sure how we got there, but I'm semi-agnostic.  Let TGs participate in sports.  Don't be surprised when the biological men defeat the biological women though.

The 5th is bullshit.  The GOP has supported infrastructure - ACTUAL infrastructure.

Climate change has ALWAYS been a left policy.

GOP has been against tax hikes.  I agree - Dems want them.

Healthcare - GOP has always been against the government involvement in healthcare - Dems want it.

Student debt forgiveness is a new one that's ONLY been championed by the left.

Wealth and income gaps - again, purely an issue of the left.

Yeah. But Jan 6 for sure. It matters. A whole political party waging or enabling and supporting open violent insurrection intent on overthrowing our government. I mean, that’s literally a thing that happened, and is still happening. And if it ever actually prevails, then our positions on policy are irrelevant.

It’s the only issue that matters today. Everything else is just distraction. IDGAF what people think about how the ship should be painted, or where it should sail. If it sinks, none of that shit will matter.

Let’s save the ship first. Then we can argue about whether it should be battleship gray or that weird dazzle scheme.

I walked past the barricades this morning for the route on my way to catch a flight to Austin. Ton of police over near the Garden today, but that’s normal for the parade. This is such an awesome time of year in the city. It already feels so much better than a year ago this time.

Terroristic legislation? You might not understand the term terrorism completely. I can see how you might find legislation damaging to the country, but your use of the term terroristic is so over the top, I am at a loss.

Rah, rah 1/6? What the Hell, man? Giving cover to actual terrorists (folks using unlawful violence and threats of violence in pursuit of political aims) is not a good look.

Lawful is the key term you seem to overlook. The rule of Law and its importance is a conservative bedrock. Which is why you have weakened your claim to be conservative with that post. You might be a staunch R, but you are not a rock ribbed conservative.

I'll concede that I couldn't find an article that gave the status of the cop after the attack. If he was the same officer that later died, I can't find an article that makes that connection. But the issue at question was whether it was an armed insurrection. Do you still maintain that it was not an armed insurrection because there were no guns? The better question, I think, is whether you think it was an attempted insurrection at all? Do you think they showed up on the steps of the Capitol because they were just mad or do you think they showed up to stop Pence and Congress from certifying results?

Here's the 1980 Republican Platform.

It's really not that different than the current platform (other than a lot of the new issues that have cropped up since 1980).   2020 platform below

https://prod-cdn-static.gop.com/docs/Resolution_Platform_2020.pdf

For contrast here's the 1980 Democratic Platform:

and the 2020 platform

https://democrats.org/where-we-stand/party-platform/

BTW, your throwaway line of "That position puts me at odds with almost all of the GQP. Which tells us all we need to know." is nothing more than just a veiled attempt to dismiss en masse anyone that doesn't agree with you - it's no different than tossing out the race card to try and quash any more discussion.  Because if you don't agree with you, then you're GQP and you're worthless...

Every R IS Trump. You’re starting to grasp the problem, even as you argue against it. Any R that doesn’t fully support whatever batshit insanity he spouts at a given moment is driven out as an apostate. They fucking kicked out LYNN CHENEY, for fuck’s sake. They literally thought they were going to "stop the steal," a scurrilous lie about a fundamental institution of this country:  the vote.

Not all of them may have intended to injure or kill Pence or Pelosi or some other Trump-traitor, but they were assuredly there to disrupt the counting of the electoral votes.

The fact that Republicans refuse to acknowledge publicly and repeatedly that "the steal" is unmitigated bullshit that brought the Capitol under attack while in session is an example of why I cannot support them any longer and likely will not for the rest of my days.

As to "armed insurrection", there was the shaman dude with a flag on a spear...and...what others?  Now, Shay's Rebellion...THAT was an armed insurrection.

I'm going to guess 99.99% showed up at the Capitol because they were mad...with maybe a small number of dumbshits that wanted to (and actually thought they could) stop them from certifying results.

Being BAD at being a violent traitor doesn’t make you any less a violent traitor. And it doesn’t take an F-15 to assassinate the VP to prevent him from performing his constitutional duties. A slit throat would do just fine. Beating beaten to death would work.

You’re okay with the GQP 9/11 because they weren’t as effective or smart as some islamofascist fucksticks were 20 years ago. That’s fucked up.

And yes, the Big Lie is a fundamental and inviolable tenet of the GQP now. Speak against it? Begone, RINO libtard…..Lynn Cheney! Support massive changes to voting, all based on the Big Lie? Yep, see functionally every elected GQP official, including our very own governor.

Jan 6th?  - Bunch of dumbass tourons wandering through the Capital building taking selfies.  But, OVERTHROWING the government?  Shouldn't they have brought a lot of weapons to do that?  Like some F-15s and nukes?
You're not doing anything to change our minds.

I posted this earlier but maybe it got lost.

The Capitol Policeman, Brian Sicknick, died of natural causes according to the Medical Examiner.

Donald Trump and his family and minions LITERALLY TOLD THEM TO GO IN THERE AND STOP THE COUNTING OF THE VOTES. They did it, in the open, it’s on video for fucks sake. This is the actual, real-deal leader of your party and sitting president of the US, and not only is your party not holding him accountable, they continue to support his treasonous bullshit. Because they want to give it another try.

Fuck your treasonous party. I’m an American. I steadfastly oppose all who attack and continue to attack my country. Sorry you’re not an actual patriot.

1 question.
Did trump lie about the election? Yes or No.

Good Christ.  I can't stand to listen to that fat sonofabitch and haven't been able to since the campaign.  I just re-read his January 6 speech.  It so fucking full of lies it is astounding.  Lies and word salad.

One time in all that horseshit did he say "peacefully and patriotically," the rest of the speech is so clearly calculated to rile that mob up.  Not to mention all the circumstantial evidence that much more than a "peaceful and patriotic" protest was intended by Trump and other "operatives."

Also, read that gobbledygook and many of Trumps other statements and continue to make fun of Biden's stumbles.  I double dog dare ya.
