There’s a reasonable case that his status as a dangerous lunatic qualifies for the 25th, but the precedent of using claims of mental illness to remove people from power seems really dangerous. Weaponizing claims of mental illness against political rivals is also a terrifying possibility.

He’s a danger to everyone on earth, but the better way long term is to use the normal route of impeachment. Of course, if the alternative is a mass death event concurrent with our ongoing mass death event, then precedent might not seem as important.

Yep.  The 25th isn't really made for this although the "facts" can be forced into it.

I don't think they know what "directly" means.

2 days of drafting and building case to introduce. Introduce case. Immediately vote without debate.

That will probably be faster than whatever clown show they would put on tonight. 100's of idiot fuckhead Q anon morons that she let be sat will talk their fucking heads off for 2 days and probably longer before there was a vote.

DeVos is an odd thing.  She has no reason to resign - at her age, she ain't going to be in another term.  She's been hated/reviled for years. She's an actual billionaire, and the grift won't do much for her bottom line.

I'm having a hard time buying the 25th thing, but he gives that odd speech. she resigns...

We probably don't want the 25th going to SCOTUS because of the chance that they give a very narrow ruling of it's applicability for the future. And if they try and invoke it now it will almost certainly go to SCOTUS and get shot down, as it should. There is a constitutional process for removing a president for misconduct. The 25th was clearly added to fill in a gap. The two processes are clearly not supposed to overlap.

As far as secret service is concerned, I could care less if they do or do not protect him from any attempts at his life, but SS protection serves to protect national security as well as the lives of former presidents.

Quoting myself, but I'd imagine it would be much more difficult to defect to somewhere like Russia if you have a Secret Service escort everywhere you go.

Lol if Trump said he was going to defect to Russia and get on a private plan right then, those agents would probably go take a verrrry long smoke break

Is Mnuchin still out of the country? For some reason I thought he was or at least he was a day or so ago (in Egypt or somewhere?). How convenient. Pompeo is around, Miller is DoD and a loyalist, and Chao and DeVos have resigned. Hard to say, but it looked improbable that any of them would support going that route.

I live in Nancy's district and just recieved this email a moment ago. Disappointed she said, "may be prepared".

Dear San Franciscan,

I believe that the President's rhetoric incited an armed insurrection against America yesterday.  The gleeful desecration of the U.S. Capitol, which is the temple of our American democracy, and the violence targeting Congress are horrors that will forever stain our nation's history.  In my opinion, this was instigated by the President of the United States' words and actions.
In calling for this seditious act, the President has committed an unspeakable assault on our nation and our people.  I join the Senate Democratic Leader in calling for the Vice President to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th amendment.  If the Vice President and the Cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment.

Justice will be done to those who carried out these acts, which were acts of sedition and cowardice. Those whose purpose was to deter our responsibility failed.  They did not divert the Congress from our solemn constitutional purpose to validate the overwhelming election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President and Vice President of the United States.

Despite the desecration of our Capitol, we upheld the bedrock principle that the people are sovereign and that they hold the power to choose their leaders through the ballot, rejecting this attempted coup encouraged by the President's rhetoric.

The House worked through the evening and into the morning to validate the electoral count proclaiming Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the duly elected President and Vice President of the United States.

best regards,

No doubt he would try. Right now he has executive privilege and whatnot that gives him the benefit of doubt with regards to his actions. Does he not lose that privilege after he gets out? Could the Secret Service become more like chaperones instead of protectors?

Kayleigh said that the attack on the Capitol was in complete opposition to everything they stand for, so I’m not seeing any grounds for impeachment here. He took it back.

Shame he's naturalized, would love for him to run for President.  I think he can still be in the cabinet (Kissinger was a German).

He would just be out of the line of succession. Like Elaine Chao

I would assume they are resigning to avoid having to be part of a 25th vote.  Just like Pence dodging phone calls from the Speaker of the House.

I’d draft two articles, both for sedition:  make one a removal, and the other a disqualification from ever running for office again.

the GOP is unlikely to remove him, given the time frame, but if you give them the opportunity to rid themselves of him forever, I beat they’d take it.

This is wild and I’ve never thought about it. He would sell anything and everything to Russia, China, whomever at the drop of a hat.

DeVos is resigning.  He's not going to have a cabinet by Saturday at this point.

It's the coward's way out. She knows that she'd have to answer on the 25th question for the rest of her miserable life.

If she answered yes, invoke the 25th, she'd make life for her war-criminal brother more difficult.

If she answered no, whatever conscience she has would haunt her if/when the current occupant of the WH does something terrible over the next 13 days. (Same for Chao)

There's reporting that the Secret Service has been infiltrated by the current admins goons. Biden team is actually worried about the Pres/VP safety because they don't trust them current group.

If you include their politically lackeys, the number of outright crimes that this administration committed will number in the thousands (no exaggeration).

The grift will be legendary. HUD is the first place to look. Prez is a builder and knows what he wants from HUD so he installed a puppet at its head.

If impeachment cuts off his nuts by making him ineligible to run again, I bet you could get some GOP votes from two categories:
1) assholes like ‘Iil Rubio who want him out of the way for 2024;
2) GOP Senators who see two new Dem Senators in Georgia and want to wash some Trump stink off before the next election b/c Trump will be investigated and the shit will tar Trumpers. Not Bama, but states that are purple or light red.

I think they could get north of 60, but I don’t think they could get all the way there.

I brought this up a few months ago when the idea of dotard pulling a runner after he’s out of office popped up in one of the other threads,  I said if that fat fuck ever starts paying attention in his classified briefings or starts asking for lists of all our overseas intelligence assets then a CIA wet team needs to be ready.

Hey, didn't stop Ted from tryna run for president.

His mom was American, which further demonstrates farcical claims by Trump and the rest of the Birthers that Obama wouldn't have been eligible to become president if he were born outside the States. A big chunk of Trump's political career was founded upon that conspiracy theory. I guess that makes sense in a sick way since the pillars holding up the GOP during the last decade were all conspiracies: birtherism, pizzagate, Benghazi, stolen elections, etc.

I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one that saw those articles last week.  Yesterday’s actions make the articles more relevant and frightening.

Not enough. And not soon enough.

He is a clear and present danger to the country, and humanity. And once he leaves office, he will 100% betray this country and its secrets for profit.

The infiltration of federal law enforcement is crippling as well. We are going to have to do mole hunts for years.

In the meantime, a small and trusted group of federal law enforcement is going to have to bug every device and residence of Trump, so they can find out what intel he is revealing and to whom. And then take swift action against him - arrest and sequester him without bail.

This is not any ordinary situation. We have a literal enemy of the state here.

Yeah I want to believe you.  I was hoping we had a deep state that would protect us from this type of shit.  The fact trump lived through all 4 years leaves me highly disappointed - for a multitude of reasons...one being no deep state.
