A hybrid grass. A cross between Kentucky bluegrass, featherbed bent, and Northern California sinsemillia.

The amazing stuff about this, is that you can play 8 quarters of football on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on the stuff.

Y'all freaking out over this aren't seeing the long game that CDC is playing here.  Every AD is concerned that money that used to exclusively come their way is now splitting between them and NIL.  Did you see the announcement about United Texas Circle yesterday?  In case you missed it:

Quote

In order to be part of the United Texas Circle, donors must pledge a minimum of $20,000 a year (above and beyond seat-related gifts) for five years.

...

A financial commitment to the United Texas Circle provides the highest level of impact for the 500+ Texas student-athletes competing for the Burnt Orange & White. The top priority of the United Texas Circle is to secure the financial resources for current Texas Athletics needs. Your $100,000+ commitment can be designated to any of the following areas:

  • Texas Athletics Capital Support: Help us transform and reimagine the spaces that serve as training grounds and second homes for our student-athletes. World-class facilities provide Texas student-athletes and coaches with the resources they need to compete at a championship level.

There's a reason why this all came out simultaneously.  I agree that the rendering is...underwhelming.  More likely they want to catch the eye of some BMDs so that the AD can go cry poor and get more money where they believe it rightly belongs...in the AD.

We just need all our old "the degree is good enough" donors to die and have donors who actually want to spend money to be successful in the 21st century.

So donors have to die so new donors can start making money?

Besides, we were told that the Silicon Valley billionaires from Cal and Stanford don’t care about college sports. Why would we assume new UT billionaires (and new Austin billionaires who have no connection to UT) would be any different?

Call me crazy, but I am not sure putting swimming pools, recording studios, and bowling alleys into a football practice facility is really going to move the needle on actually getting better at football.

I'm pretty sure the Soviets use to kick ass with maybe $2,000 worth of globe barbells on a cement floor + vitamins.

It’s a disadvantage playing on turf in football and baseball. The surface is too perfect. Teams that play on grass come to our fields and it’s easier than what they’re used to. We go to their fields and it’s harder for us.

This is certainly true for football because you play literally 50% of your games on your home field and 50% of your games at neutral/opponent fields.  so yeah, we should really level out and play on grass for football.

For baseball though, you can very much make your schedule lopsided when you're a Texas.  You can go 75% home and 25% away in your overall 56-game program.  Plus 2-8 games in the post-season rounds before Omaha.  So yeah, once you get there---may be an issue of assimilation but you're there.  You've exploited your turf to your opponent's detriment and boosted your RPI to secure the berth to begin with.
