Just saw something on Twitter that MTG was one of the four Rs that didn't vote.   If true.....  Bwahahahahahaha

It’s not.

Kay Granger

Andy Harris (MD)

Greg Murphy (NC)

Daniel Webster (FL)

were the non-votes.

50 years from now in history books, students will read, "The president was impeached twice, but not convicted? " and ask why?

the GOP will not be looked upon favorably.

Y’all may have already discussed this but since the trial will be after Trump is out of office, can the Senate call him to testify? If so, does anyone think they will?

For everybody saying we should just let this play out and let Trump slink off to Scotland or Mar-A-Lago, I present this terrific political cartoon:

holy shit, today was the day that donald became president. that was a shockingly reasonable statement, aside from the brief aside about 1st amendment bullshit.

Feels like someone got to him.  Like, uh, you're going to fucking prison.  You might want to stop.

The only real thing he cares about is getting Twitter back. He will sell his whole movement and all his supporters for Twitter.

Dotard is the worst I've ever seen at coming across as sincere when he reads speeches like these under duress, because his words ("rancor" and "incursion"? lulz), cadence, tone, and attitude don't at all resemble his honest, off the cuff statements. And he sucks ass at hiding the fact that he's reading; he just squints at the screen off to the side.

I think it lends credence to the report that it's finally sinking in how much that he's fucked his brand/business interests going forward.

dems are too politically stupid to hold on to power

this right here.  dems have been getting played, scapegoated, swiftboated and rickrolled for decades.  today was the perfect example where they have global tv as a live stage all to themselves, and it's the house with no senate rule 19, and never before in political history have they been sitting on the mt. everest of logic and moral high ground, and they absolutely fail to coordinate their assault.   half the speakers should have never wasted bandwidth and got 30 seconds of air time for no purpose.  the dems could have pummeled the everlivingfuck out of the sanctimonious bastards, the fox script would have been shattered in to a 1000 pieces, fox would not have been able to switch to anything else, the dipshits would have had to take the loss pussy, and the dems fucking blew it.

You're telling me the same dem leadership that forced clinton down our throats and enabled trump's rise by losing the house and senate are continuing to blow it?? SAY IT AINT SO! WHAT A SURPRISE!

There is no guarantee of that.
Anyone telling you what's going to happen in 2022 is a fool and a liar.
A) Trump voters don't show up when he's not on the ballot
B) We have to wait and see what Biden does - $2k checks, an actual vaccine distribution system, reopening schools and getting people back to work and a projected good economy due to re-openings and vaccines - why would suburban voters suddenly freak out and flip back to the GOP? Who is STILL going to be the party of Trump, with plenty of nasty primary battles.
C) GOP has way more ground to defend than Dems.  GOP has seats up in 2 different Biden seats (PA and WI) and an open seat in NC. Dems have no seats in Trump states this time around, unlike 2018.

Because team first. What would it take for you to start rooting for Aggy? That’s where we are.

Additional rant. Him bitching about the first amendment and censorship while literally using his public platform to be heard worldwide. He can speak and be heard any time he wants. He’s just been prevented from using a privately owned website to sow violence amongst his deplorable followers. Seriously, those five minutes are more infuriating to me than anything he’s done.

The idea that the republican script can ever be changed by anything the Dems say or do is flatly ridiculous

Not changed, but effectively countered, exposed, debunked and belittled.

Why do y’all pretend any of that shit matters? No one on that side of the aisle is being swayed by anything to Dems so or do. Stop giving a fuck what they think.

Nobody's (at least I'm not) talking about swaying dyed in the wool Rs, much less R congresscritters. I'm talking voters who can be swayed. Messaging matters. As just one example, fucktons of people voted R this cycle because of R fear mongering about the horribly named "defund the police" movement and "socialism."

I know a lot of this forum think McConnell is an dumbass like Trump.  But he is sublimely clever.

this reminded me of a quote from Robert Baskin in his seminal 1914 closure on the 19th century saga of Deseret, Reminiscences of Early Utah:

"I then said Gentlemen, speaking seriously, I think I know Brigham Young better than you do.  He has assumed the role of a lion, and, if by roaring he can scare me as he has you, and thereby put an end to the prosecutions, it will strengthen the belief of his credulous followers that, as claimed by him, he is under the guidance and protection of a divine power greater than that of the United States; that as a lion he is not of much consequence, and when he fails, as he will, to accomplish his purpose in the role of a lion, he will assume that of the fox, in which he is very formidable."

So you're saying the Turtle man is some sort of Lion-Fox hybrid?  Can we just go with my thing where an adult male is just really good at politics?

If someone is concerned about messaging when a president is being impeached for a second time after just attempting a violent coup then they are already team R. It’s beyond tired seeing Dems and progressives criticize Dems for their messaging when the opposition is burning the country down.

this is fantastic from bernstein.  fucking nixon, NIXON got down on his knees with kissinger and prayed for the country and prayed for peace and he recognized what he had done to the country and the fucking orange man will never have that level of introspection.  FUCKING NIXON.

and the enablement of dotard by the republican cult is the greatest crime of his administration.... in nixon's case all the leading pubs told nixon they were going to impeach and convict him themselves, in this case the seditionists have instead enabled the dotard.

It was such a huge unforced error that they flipped fucking Georgia. I wonder why?

Trump managed to parlay a regular election loss into 60 court losses, a terrorist attack, and an impeachment. Truly the business genius we were promised.  In the process, he’s trashed his brand, plus lost his party’s corporate sponsors and his own business’s investment bank. Art of the Deal!

Anyone on that side of the aisle will never even hear anything the dems do positively. Not ever. They consume right wing media which is a ceaseless diarrhea of outrage real or fabricated. Dems play nice - shit.
Dems hit back equal outrage.

This is a very stupid way to characterize it given that no Dems running in competitive races ever embraced it. Black activists pushing for policy reforms aren't the same people as Democrats running for office.

Bullshit, he can eat shit and die. Everything he’s calling for now is the complete opposite of everything he’s done and said over the last 4+ years and especially since the election. All he had to do was be a grown up and accept that he lost the election. He didn’t, he convinced his followers that literally everyone who accepted the election was an enemy, and now that they acted on it and he was impeached, he says no violence and come together for USA. Fuck him forever. I hope he dies painfully and slowly while seeing how his legacy will be as a deplorable traitor to the country and the worst president in history. Fuck him, seriously, there was nothing presidential about that at all, it was literally another lie because we know goddamned well he doesn’t believe a word he read. Seeing him pretend to be normal after all that happened is more infuriating to me than his grade school insult tweets. It’s just fodder for republicans to say “see he’s presidential why the witch hunt!!!!” Fuck him, and may he diaf.

.... and if he had put on a mask in his press conference march 16th, three hundred thousand of our fellow citizens don't die, the economy doesn't crater, and he is re-elected in an actual real landslide.   it was all right there for him.
