Trump Impeachment 2: Insurrection Boogaloo

At the very least, the dems should have said if the defense attorneys say one more time that the evidence is all hearsay, and that there is no factual evidence regarding Trumps words or actions during the insurrection, then witnesses will immediately be called.

Couldn’t they just go with “acting” roles in the mean time like Trump did?

Should’ve called their bluff. It never worked out for the Republicans whenever they shut down the government. Americans saw through their bullshit. Call witnesses and let the Republicans take their chances with obstruction.

today it ends 55-45.  if it takes another 6 weeks and still ends 55-45, then the dems will look good?

biden doesn't want this, and he's the president.  get garland confirmed, then do what the republicans suggested - go after trump for criminal charges, like any other common private citizen.  they won't, but they should.

biden ran on getting covid under control, supplying relief, and unifying the country.  that's what this is, for better or worse.  spending weeks on witnesses doesn't put the country in a better place.

If I was trying the case and was hoping to depend on McCarthy being truthful under oath about Trump, I’d be naive, terrified - or both. Making this a he-said she-said about a phone call is not the way to win the thing. McCarthy already went to Florida and kissed the ring.

I would not stake my trial on his testimony. It’s like having OJ put on the gloves. Might work. Might be really, really bad.

it's already really really bad.  we went from partly bad to mostly bad on november 3rd and really, really bad on january 6th, and now, today, all bad on february 13th 2021, a day which will be looked back upon as the founding of the galatic empire of satan.

If it’s 55-45 today and 59-41 in 6 weeks, it changes nothing. There’s not 17 GOPS votes at all. Ever. Period.

‘Those stimulus checks would be in the mail right now if the Republicans weren’t holding up work in the Senate.’

Lindsey Graham threatened to tie things up calling a bunch of witnesses if the Dems called any? Do it, motherfucker. Make Trump testify under oath. Make McCarthy testify. Make Pence testify. Make Mark Meadows testify. Make Ivanka testify. Make the acting Defense Secretary who didn’t call in the National Guard testify. Let the GOP call whomever they want.

Let acting AG Garland run the DoJ and investigate whomever he pleases.

I was always under the impression that 1400 was in addition to 600 given.

Because it was. It was in the midst of a discussion about expanding the existing checks, which had some traction even with Republicans but was killed by McConnell. The whole point was that with a Democratic Senate it will be passed. To separate the promise from that context is disingenuous.

It wouldn't change a thing. It's politics porn.

I'd watch.

Not all losses are created equal. There’s a reason uncompetitive blowouts are somehow easier to handle as a fan than one where your team starts to rally in the 4th quarter only to fall short.
There may have been a loss regardless, but for a brief period the House Managers allowed their base to feel hope (not necessarily of a victory but hope of something off-script at least), only to rip it away, seemingly unnecessarily. I don’t know if there will be any serious lingering effects of this, but it’s perfectly reasonable for Democrats to be pissed today.

And I don’t even necessarily disagree with their ultimate conclusion that no witnesses is the safer call in the long haul. But that should have been determined before calling for a vote and giving the appearance that the gloves were about to come off.

i see it differently, but i want to burn down the republican party so it can rebuild.

there were seeds of internecine discord to be sowed. either mccarthy gives a statement that he did talk to trump and that herrera beutler is correct, or he calls her a liar. either way, democrats win.

they want to delay this shit? appoint acting cabinet members until the senate unfucks itself.

and they could still manage votes on bills while deposing witnesses.

it was a massive error, in my opinion. there were multiple political victories, that would ultimately help them serve the american people better, that they just left on the fucking table. the democrats, as usual, are looking ahead two weeks instead of two years or two decades. it's a real shame.

sidenote, personal injury guy comes across quite well when he stops sneering and shouting.

OK.  This guy can get fucked.  Blaming the capital riots on BLM is fucking low.

Definitely. These closing arguments are for Trump and R messaging. This was what the meeting was about. Making sure they got the next phase of messaging on record.

It was.  When they were trying to get the 2nd round of stimulus through in December, it was a debate of how much.  Dems wanted 2k, GOP wanted less or none.  It came in at 900 billion with $600 direct payments.  Biden said he was happy the got something done but wanted to make clear that he considered that a down payment and he would continue to push for $2000...... overall.  Then the GA senate special elections came about and the message got muddied up and progressives wanted another 2k approved and here we are.  It's on the Dems for a lack of coherent messaging.  It's on the GOP for not wanting to help people with direct assistance at all.

2k with the $600 already paid in was the original idea.  It wasn't a broken promise but a poor message.  People start believing what they want.

Once the Senate becomes a court of impeachment, I thought the Senate as a whole was not allowed to move bills forward.

I could have dreamed that - so take it with a grain of salt.

I think they can but the GOP was going to muck it up as best they could.

Clinton got his Child Care Initiative passed during his impeachment.
