I understand if Herman is an NFL analyst because he wants to take a step back and collect his buyout money without having to work 24/7.  It probably feels better for his ego than being an analyst in college for guys he thinks should be below him, too.

However, I don’t see any reason at all to think Herman translates as an NFL coach long term.  He’d have to completely reinvent basically everything about the way he coaches.

Yeah, it starts with his offense.  You can't run a qb the way he does in the NFL.  They will never make it through a full season.  Then there's his personality and the way he treats players.  He really is a terrible fit for the NFL.

Not that Herman’s offense would be successful the the NFL (it would be a train-wreck), but this isn’t really true. Lamar Jackson and Cam Newton have both been their teams primary rushing threat for most of their careers. And they have both won MVPs.

I’m honestly not sure if it’s good or bad that Card keeps working with these private QB tutors.   Every once in a while they post highlights of these drills and it’s showing him apparently cultivating all the potentially bad habits we saw in the spring game.  Here he is holding the ball forever (and then we see him take a ton of sacks in the spring game, not all of them on the OL), there was one clip last spring of him scrambling around like a madman at a full sprint and heaving wild bombs (and then we see in the spring game how he tucks the ball when he escapes the pocket and runs so out of control he can’t even really get a throw off on the run when real defenders are chasing him), etc.

I don’t know.  He’s apparently advanced in a lot of areas so he’s probably been well coached, but some of this stuff with the private tutor in particular seems weird

I'm sure most QB's are doing these kinds of drills in the off-season with various other QB "gurus."

I think I personally would like Tom Herman, if he tweaked a few of his philosophies regarding offense and running the QB, maybe treated his players with a little more respect and accountability, had a bit more confidence in a crisis, and was... you know... someone else.

TEXAS WINS THE BIG 12

Here’s where there will probably be some controversy. Why Texas? Keep in mind that the Longhorns weren’t that far off from reaching the Big 12 title game last year, losing three games, all by three regulation points or fewer. For that, Texas ran coach Tom Herman, and hired Steve Sarkisian, whose job it will be to get the Longhorn offense operating at its talent level. Casey Thompson looked like the guy in lighting up Colorado in the bowl game, but Hudson Card could be the more talented option. Whoever gets the nod will have Bijan Robinson taking handoffs and a solid group of wide receivers. If the defense can see some of its young playmakers (like Alfred Collins) emerge — remember, this is a best-case scenario — Texas could reach the Big 12 title game. And at that point, the Longhorns would be just one game away.

Card does seem kind of awkward maneuvering the pocket or scrambling. If he’s a better athlete than Casey, he’s not as graceful. What happened to BJ Foster?

I also wonder how Sark feels about Card leading the team against two solid teams in Louisiana & Arkansas. I imagine those games will be decently competitive in-front of huge crowds. Casey at least has a small amount of meaningful reps at the college level & appears to be a more vocal leader. Man im ready for some football, I’m about to bodyslam my roommate through a China cabinet.

TOTALLY stares down his receiver.

Free Safety would be licking his chops!

im not defending Card but he does not have happy feet in any of those clips. he is resetting and staying in an athletic stance so he is ready to throw the ball.  its what you want your QB to do as he is sliding around the pocket and going through his progressions.

Yep, constant movement around the pocket is the literal purpose of the drill

Look at the happy feet Jeff Garcia is teaching in these drills, what an idiot he doesn't know anything about playing QB!
