i don't know what's more nauseating... the talent on the sidelines or the talent on the field

we're gonna be good, y'all

Broughton’s always been good at footwork drills. He’s going to have to learn how to actually play football at some point. Hopefully that’s sooner than later.

Not worried. If he can do that, he can learn.

@TwiceHorn do we know who the patent/trademark lawyers are for the good guys?

It should have been you. But, there is a tech transfer office at UT as well as an Office of Brand, Trademark and Licensing. Trademarks might be farmed out because neither staff member is an attorney. The two people there are Craig Westemeier and Kimberly Spino.

IT (not much of an update, but posting it because offseason)

Spoiler

Most players were returning to the program, some were arriving for the first time. Those new arrivals had to introduce themselves to the room.

Given the new arrivals — both summer enrollee freshmen and transfers — much of the team meeting was a recap of spring, and a general discussion regarding team rules and expectations.

They also discussed the immediate summer schedule of workouts and player driven team “practices.” The players already had their initial summer weight lifting session this morning.

The player driven practices will include a ‘re-install’ to catch the new players up to speed over the basics learned by the rest of team during the spring.

There was also some motivational discussion about eating right, working with the right intensity, etc.

All pretty standard, really.

Clickbait aside, it's really a stupid statement.  Sure, we're not where we need to be but, but other than ...

The richest program.

One of the top handful of teams tv-ratings wise.

The 100k stadium.

The perennial Top 10 recruiting class.

The Vegas oddsmakers which have us as the 6th most likely to make the playoffs.

Etc..

Yeah.  We're not relevant.

Seems like penishead is being paid by aggy to suck their micropeens..

But at least he said "Texas is behind Jimbo Fisher" without mentioning which school he's whored out to, but that just makes for a slightly less true statement, and only relevant to recruiting at the moment.

Pirkey Barber. Don't even have to look.

Although internal people at UT could and probably should do TM filings they never have.

There are a lot of things that the university is capable of doing and has done historically, but contracts out now. Administrative IT systems are largely being bought off the shelf despite being developed in-house for decades. Sure, it standardizes you with everyone else and allows you to focus on more teaching and learning stuff, but it dilutes your identity and forces you to pay the ask. The legislature somehow finds it easier to approve contracting fees than FTE salaries.

That is true of all bureaucracies.

Of note on "our" TM application, as with most sports-related UT applications, the goods/services are "entertainment services," with some extra clarification.

There is a prior registration and an application or two for AGNB for that YouTube channel the guy had until recently.  Those are also for "entertainment services."  So that's going to be a problem.

I think I read that he got the rug pulled out from under him not too long ago and is no longer actively doing the vids/bits, at least under that name.  Probably gives us some room to negotiate.  Will be interesting to see.

We are most definitely relevant.

But without looking it up, I would guess that for the last ten years in a row, our pre-season ranking was higher than our end-of-season ranking.

2018 is the only exception I can think of

preseason: 23

post smacking UGA: 9

Fuck you, Finebaum.

finnabum is BOOTY BLASTED lol he wants to go back to 2013 rather than the crazy close game to their all-time LSU national champion in 2019

Oh and Satan doesn't want to report to 15 billionaires every week, until we "clear that up"

where does he even get this shit lmao

finnabum also said Pruitt was going to bring Tennishit back to relevance.

There are 65 P5 schools and they can take 25 new players per year.  Assume they are all high school seniors, and that is 1,625 high schools seniors joining P5 schools each year.  Now assume all P5 schools take 5 transfers per year, from other P5, DII, it doesn't matter.  Now there are only 20x65=1,300 high schools seniors that get to go to P5 schools.  The other 325 now have to go somewhere other than P5.  The issue is the 25 new players per year cap includes transfers.

What is really interesting is it is going to push good high school players down a level, which means more quality guys are going to go to G5 schools and blow up and transfer to P5 for more exposure, which means taking even less high school players, etc.  G5 is going to be like a farm system.

There are up to 85 scholarship players on a team...

Team A has 85 scholarship players. Team B has 85 scholarship players. There are no open scholarships, correct?

Team B has a player matriculate and now has an open scholarship.  Player Z leaves Team A and joins Team B.  Team A now has an open scholarship. The number of available scholarships does not change.

A transfer from one school to another does not change the overall number of players on scholarship - UNLESS - that lost scholarship cannot be backfilled (ie, if there is a hard cap of 25, per year and a team can't "uncount" a transfer scholarship...)

Teams have gone over 25 in the past by some funky math... (early enrollees, grays, whatever...)  I'd need to be deeper into the rules on limits to be sure...  but it still seems like it's zero sum...

The 85 man limit isn't the problem, its the 25 man limit that is. If Player Z is a junior he doesn't count against Team B's class from 2 years ago, he counts against the current years class meaning Team B can now take one less HS player regardless as to how many slots they have available for that year. Now multiply that x1000.

This is the part I wasn't sure on...  They'll figure it out, though...  is the effect much different than a RS?

Since 1980, UT has only matched or outperformed preseason AP rankings 13 times. I think aggy is at 14, but that might say more about people's low expectations for them than anything.
