I have no idea who he is but a quick google shows he played the last two years at JUCO Mesa College.

Yeah I did everything but just Google him. Not my brightest moment.

He was a former star receiver at Mission Veterans HS, but had won an MVP at a high level travel 7on7 tourney the summer before his senior year. He had a walk on offer from UTSA but grades fell through and I never heard about him again for 3 years until today. Sounds like he showed up to the open tryout and made the team.

NAU is an NAIA school in Houston.  They emailed me a couple of years ago out-of-the-blue and asked me to apply for an administration/faculty job there, so their academics must be complete shit.

North American University? I think that’s where Akeem Joffer ended up after UoUS.

The Big Micks went undefeated in 1988

I didn’t realize or forgot that A&M-commerce was moving up to FCS. Luis Perez isn’t walking through that door though. We’ll streamroll them.

East Texas A&M now

They've been FCS for a two or three years now.

At least the aggy mothership gave them part of their name back.

If they could do the same for TAMUK, many old timers and some who are on their last years of their lives would be very happy.

They could start of 4-0 with this schedule.

Sul Ross-  Second year as D2 after years as D3.  New coach this upcoming season.

PVAM-  New coaching staff, but will be a close game

North American-  PSJA North High school could probably beat them.

Texas Wesleyan- NAIA

They officially disbanded their football program today actually. Looks like it’ll just be an 11 game season for the Vaqueros.

White beats Orange in UTRGV’s inaugural spring game

The two exchanged field goals early as Orange’s Julian Melucci drilled a 36-yard kick for the first points on the board. The White team answered with a 36-yard field goal from Troop O’Neal to make it 3-3 midway through the second quarter.

White team redshirt sophomore safety TJ Neal forced the game’s first turnover by breaking on a ball and intercepting a pass over the middle.

The takeaway set up a White team touchdown as Laredo United alumnus and freshman quarterback Atzel Chavez Jr. scrambled for a 5-yard score to make it a 10-3 game at the half.

“I’m really glad and thankful for all the support. Ever since I’ve been here there’s been non-stop support,” Chavez said. “The atmosphere was great. White team, we came in with energy. It was really good. We were all locked in, and it was really fun to play against our guys. We got a really good group of guys, and it was really cool seeing the guys go full-speed.”

After turning it into a one-score game, the White team put the finishing touches on things as Corpus Christi Flour Bluff alumnus and freshman quarterback Jayden Paluseo connected with graduate student Justin Kimber for six with a deep ball down the right sideline. Kimber stacked the defensive back and got behind him to bring in the dime from Paluseo.

Not FB, but many prognosticators are picking The Vaqueros to play post-season baseball as a #3 seed. They’ll be a tough out for anyone, similar to my McNeese Cowboys. Southland and Sunbelt Conferences are stronger than ever before.

I wish they would replace the North American game with Kingsville (they play a noncon vs Northwest Missouri State that day). That would've been fun for their first season.

They ended up replacing North American U with Langston U which is an NAIA school in Oklahoma. At least UTRGV will play a full 12 game schedule again.

UTRGV will be a great addition to the SLC, but tighten the belt for all members for travel $$$ going forward. It’s not new as in previous years ~ within the last 20-30 years the members, mostly in Texas and Louisiana have had Central Arkansas, Troy, and Jacksonville State out of Alabama.

I remember driving to San Marcos from Lake Charles for a game that was changed for TV to a Thursday for a SWT vs McNeese game. That was the Barrick Neely (sp?) year and the Bobcats were pretty good. They beat my Cowboys if I remember right and a long drive back to the Chuck.

UTRGV is going to play in that minor league soccer stadium they built. Actually quite nice for that level, with a “roof overhang” helping for the September setting Sun for fans. Great area for parking/tailgating surrounding the stadium too, just not on campus.

UTRGV’s AD played for his Dad while he was the HC at Central Arkansas. Man, I’m getting old as I remember that last name from my McNeese fan days of the mid 90s to mid 2000s.

I've been thinking what the expectations are for this first year for HC Bush. On one hand it's a cupcake schedule with a lot of sub-D1 teams but on the other hand these players have no experience playing together.

Two consecutive losing seasons then i think his seat starts to get hot. He will also have to contend with all of his best performers getting snatched in the portal and having to replace them with JUCOs and guys who are upset they're not getting enough playing time at UAB or Troy. The only NIL to speak of will be underwritten by used car salesmen or payday lenders.

Conque (AD) better not make the FB field alternating orange/blue every 5yards. CA did that with purple/gray. Unless they’ve changed recently you can Google Earth it! Makes Boise State’s Smurf turf look tame!

Eye adjustments required after watching a game there (UCA). But there is no worse field color for TV in the FCS than Eastern Washington. Goal line to goal line the MFer is RED! No shit, a red football field. You literally have to adjust your TV contrast to watch a game there.

I think the “brand” will help itself. Back in my HS days (80s) UT Pan American hosted the Border Olympics and attracted schools from nationwide, especially college golf.

Don’t have to be negative, as everything I stated earlier is true. The former school, UT Pan American hosted one of the premier Spring Sports weekend called the Border Olympics. Track/Field teams from across the country would attend. Mostly 15 of the Top 20 ranked golf teams would attend, so it was a pretty big deal.

I grew up down in the RGV, so it’s refreshing to see the RGV finally embrace the athletic program down there after years of it being an after thought.   It had its moments such as when the Broncs were winning basketball games under a young buck named Lon Kruger and the Fieldhouse drew some crowds.   But at the same time the baseball team was competitive during the era under Al Ogletree  and the interest was just not there.  They used to host back to back tourneys for which teams from the Big 10 and other parts of the snow belt would spend the better part of February and March down in Edinburg which indeed helped get Pan American Baseball on the map nationally.

Fast forward to the present and the thing that is finally helping the athletic program overall is the business community finally opening its wallets whether it be some of the local fat cats or national brands.  With all the growth the region has enjoyed, much like we see in Austin or San Antonio, they see the benefit now of being associated with the local college sports program.   As much as I hate to say it because I have a place in my heart for Texas A&I, it’s athletic program is hanging on for dear life and in particular football because UTRGV football is  going to suck the remaining oxygen out it.

Is Kingsville dying out?
