Rhodes to center and the CF can’t make the diving grab. 8-0 Texas (6)

On to Waco. Texas looking to win 1/2 in Waco to secure the 3 seed and NOT face OU in game 1 of the Big 12 tournament

We solidified ourselves as the 3rd best team in the Big12 this weekend. Well done ladies

3 straight games not giving up a run - fantastic. Baylor only got 11 hits total in 3 games.  I believe only one error in all 3 games too - it was not a bad one either, Sully just bobbled the ball on a grounder and barely missed the tag yesterday

  • Texas now moves on to the annual Big 12 Championship in Oklahoma City, Okla., where it will battle No. 2-seed Oklahoma State (11 a.m. CT) and No. 5-seed Iowa State (2 p.m. CT) in preliminary pool play on Friday.
  • The 19 combined runs in the series are the most Texas has ever scored over any three-game stretch against the Lady Bears in program history.
  • Texas pitchers shutout the Lady Bears three times in a row for the first time in series history.

Iakopo and Rhodes are both at 15 HRs - 3 to tie Hoagland and 4 to surpass Texas single season record. 3 Big 12 games plus guaranteed 3 regional games - 6 more games, minimum, to do it.

So the Hoagland single season HR record still stands?

It includes postseason. So can still be broken. 2012 was the year she got 18 and she hit #17 against Northwestern in the Austin regional and #18 in that game 3 versus Oregon in the Austin super regional

I'm not sure if the Big 12 will release yearly awards this week or post-conf tournament (SEC did theirs today, so pre-conf tournament) but my guesses are:

  • Big 12 PoY: Jocelyn Alo, SR, OU - .481 average, 26 HR, 71 RBI (#1 in average, #2 in hits in Big 12 play, #3 in HR, #2 in RBI)
  • Big 12 FoY: Tiare Jennings, FR, OU - .468 average, 23 HR, 72 RBI (#3 in average, #3 in hits in Big 12 play, #1 in HR, #1 in RBI)
  • Big 12 Pitcher of the Year: Carrie Eberle, SR, OSU - 19-2 record (10 wins in Big 12 play), 123 K, 6 shutouts, 1.06 ERA (1.40 ERA in Big 12 play is tops)
  • Big 12 Defensive PoY:  someone for OU probably, as they led the Big 12 in fielding
  • Big 12 CoY: Patty Gasso, OU

Jefferson should be first team, Shannon maybe second team, Shae likely third team.

Someone like JJ Smith might make All-Freshman team since the Big 12 stats are littered with mostly JR and SR players.  Only a couple standout freshman like Nicole May, Tiare Jennings, Jayda Coleman and Milaysia Ochoa are anywhere on the stats.

Smith, Washington, Whitaker on the All-Freshman team

Jefferson and Iakopo (interesting) First Team

Shea and Shannon second team.

I nailed the major awards:

Jennings (OU) FoY

Grace Lyons (OU) DPOY

Eberle (OSU) Pitcher of the Year

Gasso CoY

Alo (OU) PoY

Kenny Gajewski (OkSt) must not be respected by the other coaches.    Great job !       May be a gender issue with the other coaches who vote.  Winning the conf does not always equate to the best coaching job.   Gasso's 9th consecutive CoY award - Mulkey type hate for her.

Watching aggy/Tenn as I type, SEC tourn.   aggy has some good players, many from Houston area.  Like us,  they lack that uber elite pitcher.    Hope MW continues to put emphasis on Houston area.
