Defense is legit - tomato can that doesn’t turn ball over and we can win out

I believe he is saying Texas can win out with a tomato can at QB that does not turn the ball over.

That was my read of it as well, but it's also a pretty dumb take considering our OL is struggling with picking up blitzes and also not very effective in the run game. We will absolutely need a good performance from our QB to win at A&M.

I am unfamiliar with this expression

It was a bad joke that meant we do not need the best qb in the country to win. We just need our qb to not turn ball over regardless if our oline is struggling. I believe this defense can win us games. They’re legit and I hope I didn’t jinx it.

Texas is the #1 ranked defense in the country. How are we complaining about that?

Not to sound aggy, but Texas hasn't played many good offensive teams so far, which means stats don't necessarily tell the whole story.

I'm happy with our results so far, but hope our defense keeps improving.  We are pretty good, but not necessarily dominant.

I wouldnt argue that point, but its still hard to bitch. Texas is giving up 11.5 pts a game. I understand people love to see defenses blitzing, but it comes with risks.

Which offense will likely be the tougher matchup for Texas defense... arky or aggy?

Through 10 weeks Texas is #1 in the country in Defensive FEI.  Regardless of opponent this is one of the best defenses in the country.

It’s not all stats either. Just using my eyes and watching a lot of college football, we are a salty unit. They’re actually getting better to me from week to week. And I was one that didn’t believe early in the year. But they righted the ship and gotten better. I think lole playing more snaps has actually helped the defensive line. Hope he stays healthy for stretch run. Would like for offense to blow someone out so we can get snaps for the young’ens please.

I don't have a problem with the philosophy given the results, but we've seen UGA and now Vandy throw different look blitz (successfully)  against us, and would sure be nice to see us install that for occasional usage.

You mentioned Burke, I feel like he's been quiet this season.   Thought he'd be a QB mauler by now.

Yeah, me too, but he's quietly been pretty good considering we're rotating so many Edges. He's not putting up the sacks like I thought, but he's been a disruptor.

I worry about ARK more than ATM offensively.  Like every defense,  we are susceptible to the physical run game esp with mobile qb ( Hey LSU,  maybe you'll figure out zone read this year)   Seeing JQJ at RB for ARK is not great Bob.  Now,  like FL,  the trick is to get a two score lead,  then all that run game stuff get's diluted to the point it don't matter.  If we get good 1st Quarter Quinn,  our D will be just fine.

Was Jackson a Texas recruit at one point? The name sounds really familiar. Like a qb in Texas that messed up his leg or something.

I know you're joking, but a while back someone did an analysis of which statistics correlared the most with wins.

The top 2 were:

1. Defensive scoring (aka the Royal was Right, you don't lose many games if your opponent doesn't score stat)

2. QB turnovers. Even if your QB is otherwise shit, if he doesn't fumble or throw picks, you're gonna win games.

What’s the deal with coach. How come he ain’t ever been a HC?His defense fucks. And fucks hard.

Because he needs a good secondary coach to pair with to field a top tier D. At UW he had that guy. This year he's got that guy from Arizona.

ALSO our defense is stacked this year like none we've seen since ... I don't even know when. Even our 2005/2008 defenses had their flaws in the starters (though the depth at DB in 05 and DT in 08 were stupid good). This year we have NFL guys at every position, PLUS depth.

That said, this defense does fuck hard.

This depth is unprecedented at Texas at least for 40 years.  It’s pretty rare for any team in the past 40 years for that matter.  And likely in the entirety of college football history.  Probably the UGa and Bama teams of the past decade or so.

I wouldn't be surprised if one or more of Saban's Bama teams surpassed it, but that's the model.

Sark and NIL have been very, very good for Texas football.
