Does anyone have experience downloading text messages from a cell phone to a PC?

My dad died a few years ago, but I can still pull up our texts on my phone. I'd like to save the text strings between me and my dad, my dad and my brother, etc., just for sentimentality's sake.

I've googled around, but I get kind of a skeevy vibe from most of the search results (some are more "professional" looking than others), but I don't really know whether I can tell the "good" apps from the sketchy ones - they all look a little suspicious to me.

I've got a Samsung Galaxy S9 and I'm on Verizon, for whatever that's worth.

Thanks!

SMS backup is legit.  You add a gmail address and it keeps them in a "mailbox" in that account, where they are for posterity and I suppose you could archive, save, print, etc.

Cool - thanks. I'll check out SMS Backup.

Screencaps would take a long time and would be a mess to stitch together.

Oh. I could probably save the ones from my dad in two or three caps. He wasn’t very talkative. I’m not even certain there’s anything there I’d want to save. It’s just tough to hit the delete button.

I have a voicemail on my phone from 10 years ago.  My grandparents singing me happy birthday.

Mr. Harrigan's Phone from Stephen King's If It Bleeds is a great little riff on this.
