Any suggestions for a walk in Moderna booster in Central Texas? The Walmart, CVS, and Walgreens near me have suspended walk-ins and are appointment only...and all booked 2 weeks out.

Try Randall’s. Daughter got home yesterday, and wanted to get Pfizer boosted ASAP. I looked where you did, couldn’t get anything before Jan 5. Checked Randall’s this morning. Booked a slot around the corner at 3:30 today, she’s already back.

It’s fascinating to me to read everyone’s experiences with the 2nd and 3rd shot side effects. I got my booster yesterday. Moderna half-dose on top of 2 Pfizers back in April. I’ve been miserable since about 7 pm last night. Chills, nausea, headache, muscle aches, but no fever interestingly enough. These side effects are much more intense and lasting much longer than my 2nd dose of Pfizer.

  • 2 years later...

Just got my 4th Covid Shot in left, flu shot in right an hour later.  I got them from two different providers because the Moderna shot was hard to find. Folks had none or Pfizer.

Now I have the whole weekend to feel shitty if that happens.   I’m sure being on a plane for 17 hours to New Zealand next week, and the 17 hours back to LA will not expose me to anything.

Not to worry. I hear the Middle Earth healthcare system can work wonders, and they have magical medical facilities.

17 hour flight I'd probably still wear a mask, at least for boarding/deplaning. Swear I have 50/50 odds of getting something even if it's not the 'rona

I got the flu shot and pfizer booster yesterday around 8 a.m..and then passed out around 8 p.m. A little arm soreness, but otherwise I feel back to normal.

Recently went with a covid vaccine for the first time in over 2 years. Hearing about too many people getting covid and that this was the worst infection they’ve had.

I’ve had Covid 3 times now and as recent as 3 weeks ago. It was a 24-36 hour issue. Give me Covid 100x over the flu. The flu shuts me down for 7-10 days.

I haven’t heard much about Covid lately (personally).   Is it coming around again?  I got OG and *think I got boosted, but maybe I got it for first time right before first booster, can’t recall.   I got it about a year ago and it was a rough 48 hours but better after that.

Yeah, I've known several folks that have had it last 3-4 weeks.  I got the Novavax this time around, I hadn't been boosted in a few years.  I had not much more than a sore arm, which is nice because Moderna always gave me fever and chills the night following the shot.

There seems to be a little surge going on, along with flu.  I got a covid booster in June but I think the current shot covers the latest variant, so I'll probably do both flu and covid this week and just ride out any side effects (which, to date, I've never had).

I got the flu and the new Novavax Covid vaccine at the same time and in the same arm two weeks ago. No side effects other than a sore arm for about 12 hours. We’ve had a couple of people in our circle get Covid over the last several weeks and my wife has international travel coming up so we figured it was time to get our shots.

Got the flu shot on Friday. I'll be getting the Covid booster ASAP.

I've only gotten the flu once, about 20 years ago. My wife (then girlfriend) called 911 I was so sick. They didn't transport me, but told me to get in an ice bath and go to the emergency room if the ice bath didn't get my fever down. After that, I always get the flu shot.

I got the OG covid. Almost as bad as above, but the fever would come and go in waves, not just a constant fever. Dr called in so I could get the infusion. Not sure if the infusion helped or not. But now, like the flu, never again. I'm getting the covid shot asap.

I need to get on the flu shot train.  Haven’t have flu (or shot) in 20 years (maybe shot once or twice due to travel requirements) but not on my own doing.  Flu sucked ass the few times I’ve ever had it growing up.    Worse than *my experiences with Covid (I understand some have been far, far less fortunate)

Totally worth it man.  I got my first flu in 2020 in a long time, given all that was going on with Covid I just felt obligated to do it.  I used to get it about every other year, since I started getting it every year, not once.

Got combo Covid and flu a few weeks ago.  Sore upper arm, that was it.

Got my first shingles vax Friday evening.  Sore arm, a bit tired, and had a random headache pop up 24 hours later (ibuprofen knocked it down in about an hour), but that was it.  I was definitely braced for worse (friends have had their asses kicked by it, although my wife's experience with it was mild, too).

You were definitely lucky.  Whenever I hear someone talk about the shingles vax, seems like it was a bad experience.  I also know someone who recently had shingles and you for sure still want to suffer through getting vaccinated for it because her experience was horrible.

Yeah, we both got the vax because we saw a friend go through it.  Tough old bird, and he said the pain was the worst of his life.  Fuck that, give me a day of fever and shivering and such over what he suffered for weeks.  But I didn't even have that.  Of course, I get shot 2 in 3-6 months, so we'll see....

Shingles vax two weeks ago. Ran a low grade fever and felt shitty for about 36 hours, with “moderate risk” showing on my Oura app for 3 days more after that. Not super fun but I’d take it over shingles for sure.
Flu and Covid yesterday. My back is a little sore and I’m a little warm, other than that all good.

You got off pretty easy. The OG Covid strain was a bad motherfucker.

It was pretty bad. I'd say five days of misery, fever, joint aches, etc. Dr. thought it was bad enough that he called in to the local hospital so I could go in and get the antibody infusion.

Getting the Moderna booster + flu shot on Friday morning.  Other than a relatively brief 24-hour-ish illness that was food poisoning or some stomach virus, I haven't really been sick for the past couple of years.  But I feel like I'm tempting fate, especially with the numbers of the past few months.  If I get any side effects, they should be cleared out by the OU game.

I've been a Moderna man since the beginning, including boosters, with zero side effects other than a sore arm. I've also still never caught Covid.

Maybe you can answer but, if not, hopefully someone else will chime in: Is there a tangible benefit/advantage to Novavax, or should I stick with Moderna for the booster I plan to get?

Got the flu and Moderna Covid shot last Thursday. Friday was rough with fever/chills/aches. After sleeping for 16 hours, I was ready for the weekend. Unfortunately I always have a reaction to these vaccines.

Waiting until this winter for Shingles.

I got both of mine on Saturday.  This is now the third double I have gotten.  Just each arm is sore.  Nothing else.

I love my Oura. It is depressing how little I sleep though.

Surly answer: My 5G reception is excellent and I’m afraid that all of the microchips I’ve had implanted from the four previous Pfizer shots are beginning to interfere with each other so I went with Novavax this time.

Serious answer: Novavax is a protein adjuvant (non-mRNA) vaccine. It does not trigger your immune system to manufacture part of the virus instead it contains a spike protein that stimulates antibodies and T-cell response. This leads to none of the side effects that mimic a mild COVID infection. In addition, while it targets the JN.1 variant instead of KP.2 like Moderna and Pfizer, it is showing broad effectiveness against KP.2 and KP.3 in addition to JN.1.

Wife and I got Pfizer Covid, flu, and Prevnar 20 pneumonia vaccines last week.  Both had sore muscle at injection site of Prevnar, me for a day, her a little longer.  I plan on getting shingles vax in a couple of weeks.  We had the older one years ago.  She doesn't want the new one.  She had a mild case of shingles on her arm right after the vax.  Went away in a few weeks after prescribed ointment.

I don't look forward to the side effects.

I feel the same, or did, but that helped motivate me to find a path to sleeping much better. Hope you find one too.

my recipe, btw:

no booze Sun-Thurs

no caffeine after 2pm

Up before 7 no matter what

Make a point to be outside when the sun comes up, baring as much skin as possible

No food or anything requiring digestion after 8pm

no Internet after 830

no screens of any kind after 10

Lights out at 1030

white noise/waves

sleep mask

ZMA + L-Theanine at bedtime

If I do all that on any given day it’s 7+ hours of quality sleep. Each one I don’t do is worth about 15 mins off the top, except booze, which can cost me as little as 30 mins and as much as 3-4 hours of sleep by itself depending on how much and when. Also a good workout improves sleep quality and mood by a lot  but doesn’t really help me sleep more.

Not to derail the thread over sleep quality, but I've started doing almost all of this about 10 years ago, right around the time I turned 40, except I don't wear a sleep mask and I cut caffeine by 10am.  I found that even 1-2 drinks started affecting the quality of my sleep, and as I got older, low sleep quality had a greater effect on my overall well-being during my work day.  I'll even be at a professional event on a weeknight where almost everyone around me is having a drink, and I just stick to water.

I'm not perfect and I cheat here and there, but I think the combination of exercise, a good diet, and sleep quality has helped me age as gracefully as I can.  I preach this often to people of all ages.

Yeah, those shingles vaccines were both beatings for me.  Glad that's in the rearview.

THose of you getting the shingles vax, prepare your anuses (ani?). Far worse than any flu or covid shot.

Except for my wife and me, it really wasn't.  We were both geared for the worst, and it was pretty mild.  Every person's mileage may vary.

I got both Friday.  The tech asked me which arm I wanted each in, and told me that people have told her the flu shot hurts worse.  She was right, but like a fucking idiot, I took the flu shot in my left arm, not thinking that I no longer have to sit down and write right-handed and have zero need to throw a baseball or whatever, and ignored the fact that I sleep on my left side.   By Friday night, my left arm hurt so much that I made my wife switch sides of the bed, and ended up not sleeping a minute.

Hopefully you have the same experience w/ the 2nd round of your shingles vax. That one kicked my butt for a solid 24 hours. The first round was pretty mild, but the last one had me going through fevers/chills/body aches for a solid day. But I'm damn glad I did it. Saw my grandfather go through shingles in the early '80s  and my FIL deal with it around 2010 and the level of their misery 30 years apart seemed identical.

I guess I was lucky with the shingles vax since I didn’t have any side effects

This thread reminds me I need to get the Covid flu shot soon

You guys have me curious about l-theanine since I have trouble falling asleep
