Certainly a great coincidence. I wonder if he knows there was once a Brooks Kieschnick who played baseball here.

Friend of a friend played w him on the Cubs. Said if he had cut his drinking in half he could have had a hall of fame career. Said in terms of pure talent one of the best he’d ever seen

I saw him hit a baseball literally over a house across the street from right field. Longest HR I ever saw at the Disch.

Just a few days after de-committing from Colorado State, Austin Westlake kicker Spencer Barnett tweeted on Friday morning that he was committing to the University of Texas. Sources tell Horns247 he is joining the program as a preferred walk-on in the class of 2024.

"Choosing Texas was the best decision for me because it provided an unparalleled combination of top-tier athletic and academic development, a rich tradition, and a supportive community that will help me grow both as a player and as a person," Barnett told Horns247. "I've grown up in Austin as a Texas fan, and to be able to play for them is a dream come true."

The local specialist went viral last fall for booting a 59-yard field goal in a game against Ridge Point.
Texas has been evaluating Barnett for months and opted to extend a preferred walk-on offer this spring, prompting Barnett to back off his pledge to the CSU Rams.

Kohl's Kicking ranks Barnett as the No. 57 kicker in the country and No. 20 punter. Here's Kohls' eval of the newest Longhorns addition.

"Barnett has as much raw upside as any punter in the 2024 class! At the Underclassman Challenge in January of 2023 he scored 108.21 points in punting, 107.95 points on kick-offs, and 11 points on field goals. He also attended a Kohl's ranking event in October of 2022 in Dallas, Texas. He had one of the more impressive punt charting sessions at camp and averaged over 45-yards after 10 punts. Barnett attended Kohl's Texas Showcase camp in May of 2022. He had one of the stronger kickoff legs at the event with a 76-yard, 4.21 second hang-time blast. Barnett has the tools to play at the high end in college football and we expect a big future with his leg talent. Barnett attended the 2021 Kohls National Scholarship Camp where showed great improvements in his technique. He was able to show off his leg strength during the kickoff charting, averaging 101.55 points. He also scored 18 points during the field goal charting."

The Longhorns have one other specialist in the class of 2024 in All-American punter Michael Kern, who will enroll on the Forty Acres this summer. It's anticipated that Kern will take over punting duties as a true freshman.

Texas signed the No. 6-ranked recruiting class out of high school in 2024, per the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings. If you factor in the work the Longhorns did in the Transfer Portal, Texas signed the No. 5-ranked class.

The kid is a confluence of north Texas and Jasper Texas stock, think Taafe but a better athlete, same ivy league smarts. This is one of them that would end up at Tulsa or Kansas State and kick our ass for a few years. Don’t be surprised if he’s making plays on kick off coverage this year or next.

Glad to hear, Mr. Watkins.

With any luck, he’s got the grail already.

I thought he was awarded a scholly before the season? Dude better get one, he's playing like an animal. He's be in the league for sure. He's a dawg and has saved us multiple times with Mukuba.

He is on scholarship now. I believe he was awarded one late in 2022. This award is for athletes who started their college career as a walk-on, regardless of their status now.
