Unless it’s inedible I will not send food back to the kitchen.

Me neither.  Just eat it and go on with life.
I would not want to begin to guess the number of times that my mother-in-law has probably eaten impure food from a restaurant kitchen.

I was in Vegas at a shitty hotel for a work conference.

Sitting at the casino bar is a group of people from Scotland. Apparently they have a 2 week rally in Vegas every 2 years. Most people don't stay the entire 2 weeks, but they know if they show up, some of their fellow fans will sitting around the bar drinking beer. I passed by them on my way up to the room at 11PM, and at 7:30AM on my way to the conference.

By the looks of some of them, they've probably been drinking all night, and are still at the bar at 7:30. I find it amazing how people can drink in the mornings. A beer during lunch, or maybe a cocktail at 4PM, but mornings are a no-go for me.

You're of an Eastern Asian persuasion, correct? Some of it is genetics. I'm wondering if you've noticed over the years that those around you of different ethnicities are less affected by alcohol. It's well documented that certain ethnicities have higher tolerances to alcohol.

And honestly man - consider yourself lucky. Some of us wish we had a better shut off switch. Drinking all night into the morning isn't that much of a feat for me unfortunately.

There’s three parts crazy.  Feel bad for Lobo

Incredible stuff like Bolton dealing with spousal abuse during tryouts, McGhee’s auto accident and near death and returning to play at UTenn a year later and Lacy’s unfortunate situation with her auto accident.  Really enjoyed the piece, very well done.

of all the things that still exist in 2022 i can't believe paper checks are one of them.

They shouldn't exist, but late adapters are a real thing with any technology.

FWIW, I know enough olds that would "cash app" all of their money to Nigerian Princes, so maybe checks should stay for a while.

caught this british Nightmare Tenants show and its got some part about people trying to remove squatters and these ppl are so goddamn aggressive and combative.

where do people get the temerity and idea that they can simply plop down where they want and stay there.  the entire notion and brazeness of it is completely wild to me

You’re familiar with American history, no?  Brits have been plopping themselves down here and staying here for centuries

My whole life I took the “don’t ask a fish how to catch fish, ask a fisherman” approach to dating. In the past year I finally started soliciting female friends for advice and have had quite a bit more success in the dating world. It actually hasn’t even been close.

Possibly. And I think practice has something to do with it as well.

My cousin and some of his friends are/were  functional alcoholics. He could drink at least 1/2 bottle of scotch in one sitting and feel fine. Didn’t matter what time it was, he could have a drink.

We had scotch tasting at his house once where 8 of us polished off 6 bottles of scotch - Trader Joe’s 11 year Macallan, a regular Mac 12, a TJ 14 year Mac, a regular Mac 15, Johnny Walker Blue and a 10 YO Macallan cask strength. Good times…

I won’t send it back at all, I just take the L. Because a bigger L may be waiting for me. I’ll just make a sandwich at home.

So the only time I sent anything back the bartender almost begged me to do it.  I was at Ming tsais place and I ordered something with sichuan chili and it was tasty but about four bites in my mouth was numb and the bartender was like “you alright?   Want something else?”

otherwise I take the L and treat it as a life lesson especially with ethnic foods.

but I’ve seen cheap people eat about 1/3 of the meal and then say “uhm this doesn’t taste lien chicken Marsala at all. It tastes funny”.    And usually they don’t want anything else they just want it comped.

Anything ever sent back to the kitchen for any reason, legit or not, is getting returned to the customer with a loogie buried in it, or having been rubbed across the chef’s ballsack, or some other nastiness.  This is a fixed and unwavering law of the universe. There are zero exceptions.  It baffles my mind that people think they can send food back back and expect it will get properly rectified.

Truth.

When I was waiting tables in high school/college I saw some shit. Don't fuck with people who are serving you food.

I personally haven’t seen it but don’t doubt it happens.  And it’s not just the cooks you have to worry about.   The waiters and waitresses too.  So have some foresight before you decide to clown them

While cooking cheesesteaks at Tex on the drag I never did anything to food that got returned. It didn’t happen often and it was most likely because I missed something getting 86’ed from the order. Well, one time some frat douches came in and one was being a bitch so his cheesesteak consisted of all the meat that had fallen into the grease trough.

You’re wrong. And you’re a sucker if you accept whatever crap they serve you like a steak you ordered medium rare and then it comes out well done.

Here is a bit of trivia…. one of my brother’s 8th grade classmates (Jon Shirley) in San Juan, Puerto Rico 70 years ago went on to become President of Tandy Corporation and then President of Microsoft. He retired in the 1990s.

Mrs. Brat’s steak at the Outback came out rare instead of medium well. Sent it back and it turned out well overdone. She has not ordered a restaurant steak in the 20 years since.

Just a rumor, but heard this waitress put a drop of visine in this dude's soup.  I guess it gives you the runs?

I don't know about visine, but I worked with a guy who claimed to have put methyl blue in someone's drink to turn their pee green.  I have never verified that this would work, but it is entertaining to consider.

Phenolphthalein would cause the shits, but any more than a fraction of a drop is very dangerous.

So much wrong with this. A) How long have you been married that your wife is still ordering a steak medium well? B) Why are you dining at Outback? C) If she likes her steak medium well, how can she tell the difference between that and well?

Are you sure it was rare? Was it pink and cool in the center? Go to a real steakhouse.

The last time I went to Outback was some years back where they had a deal where if Wisconsin won the Outback Bowl, you could get a free order of coconut shrimp. Wisconsin won so I stopped in, bought a beer, and ordered my free coconut shrimp. The sauce that came with it was some sort of gelatinous goo that I’m pretty sure was a petroleum by-product. I asked for a bottle of Tabasco and managed to struggle through. Haven’t been back since. But that’s about the last place I’d go for a steak.

If it’s a decent restaurant serving a prime cut and I got it rare instead of medium rare, I could deal with that. If I was the sort of person who ordered my steak medium well then I’m not really concerned about quality in the first place. I’ll eat any piece of overcooked meat.

A) I do not ever tell my wife of 55 years what she can like or not.

B) I wasn’t my choice - we were invited by my older brother who liked the joint. We never went there otherwise. and still don’t

C) I don’t know and don’t care. If she likes it that way, that’s her business. When I grill steaks at home, she gets it medium at the most, sometimes medium rare. She just doesn’t like it bloody.

That Outback steak was deep purple and barely warm in the center… and bleeding like a vagina.

Hope that clears things up to your satisfaction.

Food snob goes to Outback for free food and then complains about the free food….
I don’t think my mother-in-law moved to West Virginia but every dog has his day….

I am by no means a good cook of steak, but I have perfected seasoning and cooking style for my own taste. Every now and then when we go out to eat, I think “By god I am going to order the bone-in ribeye.”  Couple bites in and I remember that I should have ordered the lamb, or something else unusual instead.
