Then why do these truck owners leave them running constantly? Some fuckers won’t even turn them off at the pumps. They sure as fuck don’t when they run in for their 12 pack.

Might be because they don't want the interior to get hot with the AC off for five minutes.

But I think a lot of those idiots think its better for the engine to leave it running than to turn it off and back on. Gramppaw probably told them that when they were 15.

I don't know too much about diesel engines, but way back in the day that might have been true for gasoline engines. Not anymore. Now it just wastes gas.

My son just auditioned at Julliard today.

He already got accepted at a couple of other good places. This was his "swing for the fences" moment.

4 years ago he had stopped playing music.

what instrument? (or vocals?)

Allow me to offer my sincerest condolences from the rest of the lower brass section.

I used to be pretty good at scales on a trombone. I should have been-- I practiced them at least a half-dozen times.

Who really owns cemetery plots?

My parents bought a six space plot when they were first married.  Dad was buried there, then mom.  I'm an only child and I assume the remaining four plots are mine?  I know money was exchanged and the plot assigned back in 1962, but I find no record of a deed?  When mom died, nothing cemetery was transferred to me.

Trumpet.

I have a grandson I'm interested in getting him on the master track for trumpet. Since this is a random thread I feel justified in taking this conversation into the weeds, can you provide some history and background for him and trumpet?

My grandson's first word might have been trumpet for all I know. At 2 he carried around a fisher price one and at 3 or 4 all he asked for was a real one. Well the real one is crazy hard to use for a baby so we got a plastic one he enjoys.

I looked into "School of Rock" which is a local franchise based on the Jack Black movie I reckon, but they are all vocals and guitar and drums. Nothing brassy.

Would be cool to hear how your kiddo go so good at trumpet and what roads to take (and not take) on that journey.

Also-- as a parent have you tried to play one? It's impossible. I still can't figure out how to make the buzzing lips to incide any noise. Trying to play one gave me a whole new level of respect.

My brother, sister, and I own the family cemetery in SE NM.  We ended up with it as the family ranch put together in the late 1800s has been split up through the years.  6 generations buried there.  We're going to form a trust to put it in--cemetery ownership/operatorship has never been my ambition.

Probably belongs in the Music board, but in my opinion, Nuno Bettencourt is the best technical guitarist out there, even at 58.

Yea but have you heard the viral tarararar trumpet man?

Check with the cemetery trustee. Up here the owners of plots are whomever the trustee says they are. Registers of Deeds and Apprisers would shit themselves if there were formal transfers.
Your trustee probably has a hand-written map that’s all smudged-over.

A real long story short. My mom and dad bought 3 plots in the 60's at Mt Olivet in Fort Worth. They both died and were buried there. I got married and knew I was never going to die so I told my Aunt that she could be buried next to her sister, my mother and I'll figure my situation out later. I let the funeral home know this. 10 years later, when she died, they faxed me paperwork to sign with the intent of sign the real documents when I arrived back to FW for the funeral. I arrived 45 minutes before the funeral and was pulled into an office to be told they weren't going to bury her because I didn't have title to the "property", it belonged to my much disliked step mother. I screamed, yelled, called him a stupid MF'er. I insulted him, his intelligence and the motive behind waiting 45 minutes before the funeral to bring it up. I finally told him that if he doesn't get it fixed, I was going to go get my remaining aunt and 2 uncles and unleash them on him and he would soon realize that he was dealing with the nice person in the family. He made a call and let it go through. A month later, I told my aunt, who proceeded to drive to the funeral home and let him have it for another hour.

Your dad was buried with his first wife instead of his second?

Yeah. My mom died of cancer after 28 years of marriage. He remarried 3 years later and was married to her for 5 years before he died. I would have dug my stepmother up all by myself and moved her if she was buried next to him.

Buried between two wives is not a peaceful way to pass through eternity.

After experiencing step son life with an "I'm your stepmother and you have to obey and all my obscure rules without question" life during teenage years, I told my wife I'd never get remarried if she died. She said I couldn't go without the sex. I told her I could rent the sex and still have peace of mind afterwards.

My FIL retired as an AF Colonel.  He served in Vietnam so was eligible to be buried in Arlington, and wanted to be buried there.  He and my MIL researched it.  She could also be buried there, but only in the same plot as the veteran.  And the veteran has to be buried on top of the spouse, even if the veteran dies first.  If the veteran dies first, they disinter the veteran, bury the spouse, and then re-inter the veteran on top.

My MIL was having none of that.  No way she was going to go through eternity with him on top.  So they're both buried across the river in a private cemetery.

What makes it worse is that she died first, and was buried in a casket.  No cremation.  When he died, he was cremated.  We sprinkled half of his ashes on the St. Lawrence river, where they used to have a cottage.  The other half he had buried with military honors at the cemetery with my MIL's remains.  In the same plot.  At her feet.  So now they spend eternity with him at her feet.  Exactly as she would have wanted it.
