Random thoughts that don't warrant a thread

Local Wal Mart is full of different type shirts that say “Texas, established 1845”. This may be technically correct but I’d think most Texans would agree on 1836.

Then why do these truck owners leave them running constantly? Some fuckers won’t even turn them off at the pumps. They sure as fuck don’t when they run in for their 12 pack.

Might be because they don't want the interior to get hot with the AC off for five minutes.

But I think a lot of those idiots think its better for the engine to leave it running than to turn it off and back on. Gramppaw probably told them that when they were 15.

I don't know too much about diesel engines, but way back in the day that might have been true for gasoline engines. Not anymore. Now it just wastes gas.

My son just auditioned at Julliard today.

He already got accepted at a couple of other good places. This was his "swing for the fences" moment.

4 years ago he had stopped playing music.

what instrument? (or vocals?)

Who really owns cemetery plots?

My parents bought a six space plot when they were first married.  Dad was buried there, then mom.  I'm an only child and I assume the remaining four plots are mine?  I know money was exchanged and the plot assigned back in 1962, but I find no record of a deed?  When mom died, nothing cemetery was transferred to me.

Trumpet.

I have a grandson I'm interested in getting him on the master track for trumpet. Since this is a random thread I feel justified in taking this conversation into the weeds, can you provide some history and background for him and trumpet?

My grandson's first word might have been trumpet for all I know. At 2 he carried around a fisher price one and at 3 or 4 all he asked for was a real one. Well the real one is crazy hard to use for a baby so we got a plastic one he enjoys.

I looked into "School of Rock" which is a local franchise based on the Jack Black movie I reckon, but they are all vocals and guitar and drums. Nothing brassy.

Would be cool to hear how your kiddo go so good at trumpet and what roads to take (and not take) on that journey.

Also-- as a parent have you tried to play one? It's impossible. I still can't figure out how to make the buzzing lips to incide any noise. Trying to play one gave me a whole new level of respect.

My brother, sister, and I own the family cemetery in SE NM.  We ended up with it as the family ranch put together in the late 1800s has been split up through the years.  6 generations buried there.  We're going to form a trust to put it in--cemetery ownership/operatorship has never been my ambition.

Check with the cemetery trustee. Up here the owners of plots are whomever the trustee says they are. Registers of Deeds and Apprisers would shit themselves if there were formal transfers.
Your trustee probably has a hand-written map that’s all smudged-over.

A real long story short. My mom and dad bought 3 plots in the 60's at Mt Olivet in Fort Worth. They both died and were buried there. I got married and knew I was never going to die so I told my Aunt that she could be buried next to her sister, my mother and I'll figure my situation out later. I let the funeral home know this. 10 years later, when she died, they faxed me paperwork to sign with the intent of sign the real documents when I arrived back to FW for the funeral. I arrived 45 minutes before the funeral and was pulled into an office to be told they weren't going to bury her because I didn't have title to the "property", it belonged to my much disliked step mother. I screamed, yelled, called him a stupid MF'er. I insulted him, his intelligence and the motive behind waiting 45 minutes before the funeral to bring it up. I finally told him that if he doesn't get it fixed, I was going to go get my remaining aunt and 2 uncles and unleash them on him and he would soon realize that he was dealing with the nice person in the family. He made a call and let it go through. A month later, I told my aunt, who proceeded to drive to the funeral home and let him have it for another hour.

Your dad was buried with his first wife instead of his second?

Yeah. My mom died of cancer after 28 years of marriage. He remarried 3 years later and was married to her for 5 years before he died. I would have dug my stepmother up all by myself and moved her if she was buried next to him.

Buried between two wives is not a peaceful way to pass through eternity.

After experiencing step son life with an "I'm your stepmother and you have to obey and all my obscure rules without question" life during teenage years, I told my wife I'd never get remarried if she died. She said I couldn't go without the sex. I told her I could rent the sex and still have peace of mind afterwards.

My FIL retired as an AF Colonel.  He served in Vietnam so was eligible to be buried in Arlington, and wanted to be buried there.  He and my MIL researched it.  She could also be buried there, but only in the same plot as the veteran.  And the veteran has to be buried on top of the spouse, even if the veteran dies first.  If the veteran dies first, they disinter the veteran, bury the spouse, and then re-inter the veteran on top.

My MIL was having none of that.  No way she was going to go through eternity with him on top.  So they're both buried across the river in a private cemetery.

What makes it worse is that she died first, and was buried in a casket.  No cremation.  When he died, he was cremated.  We sprinkled half of his ashes on the St. Lawrence river, where they used to have a cottage.  The other half he had buried with military honors at the cemetery with my MIL's remains.  In the same plot.  At her feet.  So now they spend eternity with him at her feet.  Exactly as she would have wanted it.

Im kinda wondering how long until I'm known at work as the deuce monster.

We have fully-closed single-room unisex toilet facilities in the building. The ones on my work floor is always busy, and, frankly, often disgusting. The neighboring floors however house a tiny group of mostly women so their toilets are in tip top condition and always free.

Almost everyday I go in there for a long time and drop some massive stinker. The office walls are glass and its very obvious who is coming and going into the floor, and I just wonder when it begins to click for them that I'm the guy whos stanking up their bathrooms.

First you make a roux. Then you have the maternal grandfather be a music professor and skilled trumpet player himself.

Other than that, he pretty much did the regular band type stuff, except he was really good at it, with a wolf-like killer instinct compared to the other puppies. As in, if he missed one note in a recital, he'd go off to an empty room and redo the piece as many times as it took to get it right, even if nobody else was listening. It came from inside him.

What worked for us was finding a private teacher through one of his school band teachers. That's the trick - a good private teacher goes a long way. Doing the same with our daughter on piano.

(Yes, my son, too, is a dirty filthy trumpet player.)

This solo was a big deal when it came out. All these legendary guitarists were like, "OMG did you hear Nuno's latest solo?" Rick Beaton went as far as to say that EVH's baton had been passed on to Nuno after this.

Yep. Once he got to a certain level in high school we had him study with a trumpet professor from granddad's college. He also picked up a bunch of paid gigs at churches that way.

The beginning of the solo could have been mistaken for a EVH solo, then the middle was pure Nuno in terms of melody and sound, but technically, it was a first (?), That's why everyone's jaws dropped.

I don't know if it's an overlooked advantage, but one of the biggest win-win scenarios of working from home is farting.

It's a win for my co-workers, who don't have to deal with smelling it while I expunge intestinal gases with impunity. And it's a win for me, that I don't have to hold back as I let long stinky ass blasts fly.

And if I go too far and a little brown goo sharts its way past the guards, all I need to clean up is right here.

Before we got married, wife and I spent a weekend down in Galveston so one night we had dinner at Gaido's. It may have been spring as I remember it being chilly at night, anyway the dinner was fine and at the end they bring you the small warm bowl of lemon water... Now being most of our seafood experience was at Red Lobster or LJS, we looked at each other and thought wth?  So, we drank it. It wasn't until we spotted another table using the water to clean their hands of seafood odor. We can only imagine what the wait staff thought of empty lemon water bowls.

I'm currently at war with my local post office. Mail carrier isn't taking my letters despite the red flag going up. Neighbors told me "just leave a note with a pen for your mail carrier and ask them what's going on". So I did and just went to the box to check. No response. They delivered the mail on top of my note. Well fuck me I guess.

How much is a FC stamp today - 60+ cents? I bought about $10 worth of preprinted stamps a couple months ago, so are they not sufficient to mail bills?

I only write about 5 checks a month and 2-3 are bills. I can’t pay them online currently or I don’t want to go through the hassle.

MFG checks from my bank equals to about 50 cents per check, so we have to really know where that check is going.

Just remembered how when I first moved into the college dorm, I found *behind* the desk drawer a Taco Bell receipt that printed the customers name, full credit number, AND the expiration date on it.

I looked up the name on UT Directory -- the person was an active student, with current address and phone number and such.

Man, ID Theft was so easy back then. What a stupid move by the Taco Bell. And this wasn't the 1980s either.

We had our SSNs printed on our college student IDs back in the 80s. It was common to have them pre-printed on your checks too.

I remember getting my driver's license in the late 80s, they asked if we wanted to use our SSN as our DL number too. Me and all my friends all said yes.
