Random thought today as I heard Snoop Dogg pitching T-Mobile or iPhones on the radio (and yes, I listen to terrestial radio because I'm old).

Is Gen X propping this guy up?

Boomers are like Linda Tripp-- this Snoop Doggy guy is violent and his music is vitrolic and don't let our kids listen to it.

Millennials weren't alive when Snoop Dog was popular save for like 6 weeks when the "Drop it like it's hot" Pharrel song was big 20 years ago.

Gen Z and Alpha don't know who this guy is, musically. He's their black Willie Nelson as a weed champion for legalization and culture, at best.

But Gen X. We love Snoop. We were the prime audience for MTV when Snoop's videos were on every other song and Death Row was a thing. We made The Gourds cover of Gin & Juice an unironic and cringy staple at our fraternity mixers. Enjoying Snoop is/was our personality.

We've taken a self-admitted violent gang-banger, who was once on trial for murder, and whose lyrics are the definition of misogny and turned him into a face of consumerism for an aging generation based on us not wanting to get old.

How else do we explain his appeal to cover the 2024 Olympics, his iPhone jingles, podcast with Martha Stewart, etc.?

Sheeet, now wal-mart sells Snoop Christmas merchandise.

Snoop is mainstream pop culture cool now.  Nothing to do with his music.

Yep, I share your confession.
And to be clear, that’s not because I think I’m particularly great. I’m kinda shitty, think and do lots of stupid shit, etc.
It’s just that the vast majority of people are REALLY shitty, and REALLY stupid. So, “better” is very much a relative term.

Those of us who have read many of your posts, and sometimes manifestos, want to back you up on this.

And since the rest of us here are nothing like that it really stands out.

I cringed when Mrs Brat said she wanted to go shopping at the Round Rock Outlet mall.
I’ve avoided the place for almost 10 years, but am pleased to see there are very few shoppers here.

of course there are the ubiquitous idiots walking around shouting with their Bluetooth phones.

I am only about five minutes away too.

Someone "stole" 7 lawn bags of old leaves from in front of my house.  Maybe "stole" isn't correct but i collected the leaves and, after lunch, put 8 bags on the street for pickup tomorrow . Walked out an hour ago and only one is still there. No clue what someone plans to do with them

guess what.  they came back and took 12 bags last night after dinner. Really puzzled on this. Maybe I can get them to bag the leaves the next time

It’s someone looking for mulch for their garden. My neighbor comes and gets some of my ten billion leaves every year.

I went through three of those buses, one in Europe, one in Africa, one in Texas, albeit only one was a Westphalia, and all in 60's and early 70's. The flat-4 air-cooled engine was a Porsche Sr. design intended for small aircraft, and one of the great engines ever made, used in both buses and Beetles. American mechanical maintenance was a disaster, though. Keeping #3 cylinder's valves adjusted was a once-a-month fifteen minute job, but had to be done with the engine stone-cold, not just cooled off. Do that and it runs forever. Pop on the 1600cc jugs, and run 70-80mph all day at 30mpg.

Why are HEB corn flakes made in Germany?

If true, I think we have just found the real reason @Brisketexan is in Germany.  He is obviously about ready to execute some sort of Ocean's 11-style corn flake heist.  I have a feeling there will be a news story when we wake up on January 2nd about a massive break-in and theft from a warehouse in Germany where thieves took a supply of corn flakes valued in the millions.  Authorities will say the only clues left behind by the thieves are an empty tin that once held sardines, the wrapper from a sleeve of crackers, and an empty bottle of Crystal hot sauce.

Not sure about theft. For all of Brisket’s flaws, he’s not dishonest. The authorities would find an IOU.

People talk about Germany’s crippling financially after WWI leading to WWII because of the economic results of various treaties and what not.  Doesn’t seem that accurate to me because they were a wealthy prosperous nation in the 1920s — the Weimar Republic started and ended in financial turmoil, but the middle wasn’t at all.   They just got crushed by the Great Depression.

Today I learned that the apocryphal story about Napoleon writing to Josephine "I'm coming home in XX days, don't wash" is indeed total bullshit.

This whole time I thought Napoleon was a fan of stank pussy. But his only known writing about female genital smell was this -

I want to introduce you to a charming woman who is crazy about you and only wants you. Although this seemed a little suspicious to me, I asked him to bring her to me. She didn't speak a word of French, and I didn't speak a word of German. I liked her so much that I spent the night with her. She was one of the most pleasant women I've ever known, no smell. When day broke, she woke me up and I've never seen her since. I never knew who she was.

So it was quite the opposite. He liked odorless puss.

I've been lied to my entire life.
