Blackhawk Down is an amazing movie. From casting, even the music...

Any movie where the convoy and gunships are rolling out to SRV’s Voodoo Child is fucking doing it right.

Agreed on the Ferris Bueller post. That's the first thing that came to my mind. But I assume it's more a function of me aging poorly than the movie aging poorly. I just want someone to knock that smug smirk off of his face from beginning to end.

OK in the unpopular opinions category I will toss out

Caddyshack.

Absolutely loved it at the time and had a personal connection to it (A classmate friend of mine and his sister had speaking parts in it), pretty much had the entire film memorized, and continue to use quotes from it, but it really hasn’t held up (except for Lacy).

Ha, Caddyshack is one of those movies that, if I come across it, I'm in til the end.  I don't know if its' nostalgia or what but I love that flick and it still makes me laugh.  (The Maggie character being the one, glaring exception.)

For me, it has to be Arthur. It came out when I was at UT and I saw it at the Union Theater.

It was hilarious at the time, but now it's just sad.

Overall the movie can feel outdated, but Arthur's wit still holds up.

That certainly is an unpopular opinion.

Pics of sister?

also I feel like Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Alien(s) special effects still look great to this day. I prefer that over most CGI.

Some scenes are better than others in those movies. We tend to forget the bad scenes because the good ones overshadow them. Go back and watch the tree scene in JP where the dino sneezes on them and see if you feel the same way about all of it.

I nominate Roman Holiday. Its a nice little flick, but 10 Oscar nominations and 3 wins? WTF?  It's a Wonderful Life is a timeless classic from several years before that only garnered 5 nominations / no wins.

Additionally:    Donna Reed >> Audrey Hepburn

She played Danny’s sister. The one running in the house in her bra. Right at the beginning of the movie. The friend was the brother who said something like “you can’t paint brick”.

Lacy is the thing that doesn't hold up. Today she's a 6 best case.  A pox on you and yours for even suggesting Caddyshack doesn't hold up....

and to whoever said Arthur is dated...... fuck that noise too (said with nothing but  brotherly Surly love of course)....

Donna-Reed-Feet-758587.jpg

Audrey for her class and statue like beauty, Burt she always came across as too much of a child to me.  Donna for the win for her hot smoking body and great looks.

I thought it was pathetic back then and couldn't understand all the love for it.

I see your multiple nominations for American Beauty and raise you Forrest Gump.

Lt. Dan and Jenny were memorable characters. American Beauty doesn't have any.

In todays MOVIE world, her face she's still hot, her body ?  Not like the girls today IMO. (see:  The diving board scene ).

We will have to agree to disagree.

The Terminator.  I pulled this one up to watch with the wife, as she had never seen it and I was explaining how all the little boys of the time thought it was incredibly bad ass.  We hardly made it through the first scene.  The effects are just too dated to suspend disbelief.

I used to think you were a good poster.

Read The Catcher in the Rye again and tell me if you don't think Holden Caulfield is a whiny little bitch.

I used to read that book every couple of years and one time the switch just flipped and I went from "Yeah!  You tell 'em Holdy!" to "STFU you punk ass kid."

Also, get off my grass.

Which is the genius of the book.

Live-action Batman films made in the 90s.

With the exception of Danny Devito as The Penguin. The best portrayal of a super villain ever.

I watched Ferris Bueller’s Day Off for the first time in forever recently.  Maybe I’ve just turned into an old man yelling at clouds, but all I could think about is (a) Ferris is basically a sociopath and (b) how did I never realize what a jerk he is until now?  When I was a kid/teenager it never dawned on me that he wasn’t a hero. I must have been a little shit back then.

that's the thing about the movie. it's not at all about ferris.

I was just a kid when Top Gun came out, so I have never seen it on the big screen. I saw it a few years ago at a movie theatre 80s night. The amount of man flesh is downright shocking when viewed on that scale.

While we're slaughtering sacred cows, I'm just going to say that Val Kilmer is the only thing that saves Tombstone. Dana Delany is terrible in her role and her scenes with Kurt Russel are unwatchable, and really fuck up his role as well IMO.

I'm a James Cameron fan. The concept, script, direction, and noir elements of The Terminator were great, Cameron was just way ahead of his time and didn't have the tech for modern effects. Also, it is Arnold's most iconic role, with dialogue perfectly suiting him, and some unforgettable scenes. The noir feel of The Terminator make it a more rewatchable movie to me than T2, where the noir elements were swapped for better effects.

Since it's not showing up, just tell us if its "well, Bye" or "I'm your Huckleberry" so we know where you stand.

Try this one...

So you enjoy all the screen time the film dedicates to Wyatt Earp's love life? They make his wife ridiculously  two dimensional to justify the affair with Delany's character, the hollowest in the film ("I want one"), escorted by the very awkward/overdone Billy Zane character. It would be so much better without all that shit. To me its a mash-up of a real western (the scenes with Doc, Johnny Ringo, and the Earps) and something like Mean Girls.
