Strong recommendation for the OG114. High rye bourbon great for a Manhattan or boulevardier.

It simply infuriates me that despite quality relationships, consistent hunting and fervent desire, the only attainable bottle in this pic is the OG114.

This has been a long hard road of hunting for me, @billinlaketravis and huge can attest.

Granted, I am no where near the biggest swinging duck around here, but realized I have a lot of good shit already opened.

And naturally, I found it in both Lakeway liquor stores I dropped into yesterday. They must have had a supply gap for a few weeks, as there was plenty available at both spots. Hope they have the supply to keep it on the shelf like they do with the bourbon.

I did. Well, a buddy that knew I wanted one did. He hit up a Twin earlier today and they had a fresh case open and not even on the shelf yet. He picked up one for me and one for him.

Bourbon right next to the ryes. Be better Twin. Be better.

Moved and organized the collection today. Some observations:

I have a lot more Antique and Eagle Rare than I thought I did.

I need to stop giving Blanton’s as gifts. Four is pretty low.

I still have one handle of Weller 12 left from 2017. Sigh, my former honey hole would sell me as many handles as I could buy, but  I showed financial restraint and didn’t buy them out. Terrible decision on my part.

Yes I’m a Buffalo Trace fan boy, but I have a respectable amount of Heaven Hill.

Note: The IW Harper bottles are Poor Man’s Pappy. I currently have three batches sitting.

At least I’ll have the bar and half of those bottles to fill it with soon!

I envy your space. I ran out of shelves. There are some good bottles on the floor. Little Book 3 deserves better.

Let’s talk about what I’m going to trade you for that Boone County.  Since we’re d swinging I have about 8 Blanton’s including a few store picks. Or maybe some RC6 since you’re a big into Maker’s and I don’t see any there.

Thanks, one of the reasons we were so excited about this house was all of the bonus rooms for projects.

I can place the rest of your LB3 if you’re looking for a “temporary” home...

It pained me to put LB3 on the floor. I‘M fixing some of the paint, so I’ll probably be able to slide it in there in a couple days.

Some of personal favorites out of my collection:

- Hancock’s Presidental Reserve. I like it better than Blanton’s. It’s just really good. Sorry I stink at tasting notes, but I suspect it’s older.

- Knob Creek 25th Anniversay. Wow such a good bottle. Worth every penny of $130.

- McKenna 10 barreled in May 2009. I got lucky there. I liked all of the single barrels I tried in 2019, so I bought 6. 5 remain.

- The Antique twist tops. The new bottle is just off to me. Too much clove and runs hotter. I think Buffalo Trace quietly dropped a year and doubled the price.

Man I don’t know. That Boone County was a pain in the ass to get. The store I bought it at said it was one of two left in the state of Texas. It’s also the only MGP I’ve reall enjoyed.

The Internet (and the guy in the store) say this is ten year old stuff sourced from Four Roses. Whatever, it’s good.

The Whiskey Neat guy, Kristopher Hart debunked this. Link https://mywhiskeyneat.com/articles/bulleit-four-roses

I’m not saying Bulleit SiB picks aren’t good, they just aren’t exactly Four Roses. Their mashbills are remarkably similar as Hart lays out in the aforementioned article.

I actually was making a quick run a few weeks ago and thought this was regular single barrel. Tasty...but a bit too strong for my taste.

The barrel selects for that stuff can be super duper.  The Poison Girl version was aces.  The JD, not Bulleit.  Never had that.

Another bottle that was readily available and I didn't know what I had until it was scarce.  I have maybe 2 pours left.

Yep. This time two years ago it was collecting dust in my local TW. I’d grab one every few weeks as I killed the previous one. Then one day it wasn’t there at all.

And in a bit of even more saddening news, my local mom and pop shop that always takes care of me is being sold to the kind of people that put cases of horny goat weed pills, glass pipes and incense for sale at the register. Just another place that sells Eagle Rare for $99. Furk

Same here with the sell off, it sucks.

It was sometime last year. One of the MGP guys in the thread posted a warning that Indiana was running low on older bourbon. I heeded the warning by buying all of one bottle to prep. I believe Boone County 12 was nonexistent within a month of that post.

The 12 year hit the sweet spot for Boone County. It’s better than the 14 year. It’s a funky mashbill, but I definitely want to try the 7 year.

I think that may have been me ha. I had heard from stores it was gone and went straight to the distillery to grab 3 more bottles. In hindsight I should have cleared them out.

Ohio has been releasing a bunch of 1.75 twist tops from 2018 this week that were apparently forgotten about in the warehouse.

They have been flooding the local pages here. I'm not all that interested in going to hunt them though.

That’s what I paid yesterday for the Rock Hill Farms.  Worth every nickel.
