I'm not Herbie but I definitely agree. Never understood the hype.

The old releases were delicious, come on.

It’s overrated as all get out. Is it swill? Absolutely not. Is it worth more than $50? Absolutely not.

I refuse to pay more than MSRP for any whiskey, and there's almost no reason to pay more than $50 for anything.

For the most part I would agree, but I paid $58 each for Rebecca Creek Spanish oak and felt it was a steal at that price. I’m about to the point where I’m going to pay secondary to get my mitts on some OWA if it doesn’t show up soon in my hood.

It’s not that much over retail.
$100 vs $60
Almost a no brainer to not have to fuck hunting it down.

I’m trying to remember the last High West product I really liked. I felt like shit asking a friend to  mule me a Prisoner back from Utah. We cracked it when he got back and it was disappointing. It did open up towards the end, landing somewhere near fine for me. Not worth the money. Interesting bottle if it was under $80.

Their cask strength bourbon is good-ish, but too much money.

Bourye was terrific when they still sold it in Texas.

whatever happened to black maple hill.  10 years or so ago i had a bottle and thought it was excellent.  then i heard they changed their sourcing and it went downhill.  now i never see it or hear anyone talking about it whatsoever.

I am so thankful these people exist and that the liquor industry produces products to separate them from their money, so that bottlers and distillers can afford to produce an abundance of excellent and widely available products for the rest of us.

This might be better than I remember it being. Things could get interesting in a blind with Old Fitz 8. As always, I wish I bought 2.

I've still never seen this on a store shelf, but I've looked for it when I'm out there.  I do love the Distiller's Collection version of it that Spec's usually has.

It’s great! Great bang for your buck (most bottles are anywhere from $60-80) and they’re really starting to put out some interesting stuff. They’re doing a lot of blending with 6-8 year juice from MGP and Sagamore.

I’ve been a Patron of theirs for several years so I get access to their releases.

Bought one today. I really want to try it at a bar before I open it. Feels like a love or hate it release.

Sounds like we are on the same schedule.

I’ll call around this weekend. Hoping to hit on a Whiskey Cake location. Thank goodness hostesses are very knowledgeable of their menu. I fully expect to be on hold for 45 minutes per location.

Had some dusty RY10 from the back of the shelf tonight… as noted up thread, it still fucks

Those are starting to show up more regularly on the shelf. I’ve seen several on shelves at TW and Spec’s the last times I’ve been over the last few weeks.

A very welcome sight.

Someone sent me this site. Anybody know anything about it. Some decent prices. Above mrsp, but some not too much.

They're legit. I've been there. In the Georgetown area of DC. They also run the website SharedPour. Some barrel groups like r/bourbon use them to ship. Have a lot of rare bottles but most are secondary prices or higher.

ETA: I've purchased from them before and had no issues. I just picked up at the store though so don't know how reliable their shipping operation is.

Know all the founders personally or have done much business as a seller to them (so their stuff from me is legit). But not cheap. They provide a service for those that have means and lack access.

FINALLY found this in the wild… different than any OF pour I’ve ever had. Nose is super dusty and relatively spice forward…. Not a hint of banana on the palette, rather a well rounded caramel and vanilla. Finishes with the mildest bite and a touch of char.

Beautiful!
