Roma is usually good, but I have no fucking idea what’s going with ownership/management. They’re all over the place about being open during normal hours and picking up the phone. If it’s a long drive for you, I can send you the owner’s number. Their Sazerac Rye pick is a 9 out 10 rye for me and it’s $34.99. If they have some please let me know because I need to restock.

Ly’s is in EADO. They usually have all of the same picks as NASA and they randomly have allocated Total Wine picks.

NASA is probably the best, but it’s in Clear Lake. If you’re that far south, you might as well go to First Sip.

Liquor Source is in Tanglewood, and it’s usually pretty solid.

Ryan’s in Spring sucks in my opinion, but you should be able to get an Old Forester Barrel Strength pick.

Dandy’s in Katy hypes the shit of their picks so they sell out in a day. I’d call before you head that way.

Rice Liquor is in Bellaire. They usually have 2-3 picks out. I kind of stopped swinging by because they did a few too many Dickel picks for my liking.

Thanks, Bill.  NASA was the place I normally went, but got tired of driving all the way out there and the selection was just MGP.  First Sip appears to be in La Porte.

Rice has been my local go to, but haven't stopped by there much lately.

I think I'll take a drive out to Roma tomorrow.  If I see the Sazerac Rye, i'll let you know.

I need to check out Reserve Wine & Spirits if I'm going out to be out in League City.  Haven't been but a bourbon tuber did a video with the owner.

I don’t know about this one. It’s a little hot, and not a classic wheater like Maker’s or Weller. Sort of leans into the tasting notes I don’t like Heaven Hill’s wheaters. I only bought it because the Whiskey Den podcast wouldn’t stop talking about it. I believe they’re affiliated with some of the DFW Facebook groups. Maybe they caught a good pick?

Different mashbill right? I believe EHT Rye uses a Barton mashbill that’s around 70% rye while Handy is a barely legal at 51%.

What’s the range on secondary?

It’s widely assumed to be 65% rye vs the BT 51% rye mashbill in all of their other rye products. And may not contain any corn (subbing barley for rest). But not confirmed by anyone. It has slightly more rye spice to my palate, but not a huge difference to a Handy.

secondary is $600-ish

Is this the first year for that EHT BP Rye?

Yes. Was originally leaked as a 2022 product, but was shelved.
