Anyone on here have any experience or recommendations with bourbon trail tours?

Most of them truly suck is the answer. And once you’ve done one, youve done enough.

key is to focus on the tastings/experiences. HH will let you select a nice bottle on certain “tours”.

Willett may be worthwhile. BT for the history (and be selective, not all tours there are equal).

You will want to spend a great deal of time (and money) at Bar Willett. Carve out plenty there, make it your last stop (trust me on this) and be sure to book a reservation there. You won’t find anything close to this in KY. Even close.

Truth. All the food there was good.

To add color:

four roses - skip (nothing worth a shit on tasting menu)

HH - do if only for the allocated bottle (you do bourbon or connoisseur depending on what you are after)

Barton - I would do as it’s a very cool setup and bar is great with lots of options to taste

BT - likely do, as historical and pick which one interests you most  all end in same tasting of their mainstream offerings

whiskey thief - kinda cool off the run experience with barrel tasting.  If you want unique, this is it

Preservation - skip

willett - do it right before your reservation at bar Willett

Jack Ruby steakhouse - highly recommend this stop in Lexington. And be sure to try their exclusive 16 year Boone county MGP pick if there is any left

Tell me you've never been to Bardstown Bourbon Company without telling me you've never been to Bardstown Bourbon Company. The bar at Willet is excellent, but you're doing it all wrong if you aren't making time for BBC. The restaurant and the whiskey library tasting experience should not be missed.

I said Barton. And I meant to type Bardstown.

That makes more sense then.

For me, it's a bit apples and oranges to compare the experience at Willet and the experiences at BBC. And different people will come away with different thoughts about which one is better based on their own preferences. The main takeaway is that you should do them both.

Man I mis Jackie. No more fruit bombs. No more cool cola notes. Just plain Jane what if aged OF100 12 years notes. That’ll be $200.

No shit… what is she even doing now? I grabbed two different batches of her new juice and it was super mid… basically assumed whatever magic was happening at OF wasn’t to be replicated and moved on.

Based on her Instagram, it looks like she’s gone through some shit. Pretty sure she’s sober now and her husband  passed recently. Sorry to see it. Based on what I’ve seen and heard in interviews she seems like a wonderful person. I wish her well.

Hopefully she has a protege working his/her way up the ladder at Brown-Forman.

A sober person working as a key person at a distillery?
No idea who you are taking about but good on her. That’s gotta be hard.

Again, based on Instagram, I think she met a fella. Got sober. Left BF.

I’d say it’d very difficult to judge a bourbon/rye finish if you’re spitting into a bucket, but wine guys are doing it right now.

I read that Jackie Zykan started her own label called Hidden Barn.  It's associated with Neeley Family Distillery.  Sounds like she got tired of the big distillery game.

Yeah, that’s the one I was referring to - Product is decidedly meh. Get she’s likely working with inferior juice, but it’s a crime that such an exceptional palate is slated against mundane bourbon.

That or she’s lost several steps… shame regardless. All the virtual tastings she did during Covid were fantastic!

Houston guys, a HBH member is trying to move some Spanish Oak. Proceeds go the local elementary school. The post is on Facebook, but I have the fella’s contact number if you don’t want to dig through the posts.

Despite their Tilted Bottle affiliation, I’ve enjoyed The Whiskey Den podcast. Their guests’ humblebrags about their collections are annoying, but their recs have been good. I would have never tried the excellent 2XO Innkeepers’ Blend if I hadn’t heard about it on their podcast.

Well in this week of clutch my pearls, Spec’s charged me 80 American dollars for ETL. I would have told the cashier to keep it, but I can’t break the covenant.

In better news, I picked up another Blanton’s Gold. I can’t go back to the regular stuff. Gold is pretty great.

Got the call for 1924, but by the time I got to the store they said “oh, we thought you were the other Party_Taco”… 🫠🫠🫠

Worked out, but I still want that ‘24

I entered a raffle for Bowman Cask Strength that would require me to travel from Houston to Virginia within 14 days. I think you’ll be fine buddy.

I finally got a bottle of 1924. My guy pulled one for me at Spec’s. I could have probably grabbed another one, but I didn’t want to violate their 1 per customer policy and burn my guy.

Hopefully by the time I’m ready for another bottle, it’ll be a much wider release like King Ranch has eventually become.

My local store has probably 12 of them on the shelf.  Granted, they are asking $170 for them, but I was more than a little surprised to see them just sitting there.
